The Israeli Cabinet has approved the outline of the agreement for the release of hostages captured by Hamas. Meanwhile, the US will send about 200 troops to Israel to monitor the Gaza ceasefire. Earlier on Thursday (October 9) night, Israel carried out a major air attack on Gaza City. The attack occurred when the Cabinet was meeting to vote on US President Donald Trump’s ‘Gaza Peace Plan’, which aims to permanently end the Gaza war.

According to CNN, the Hamas-controlled security agency said that the attack in the Sabra area of ​​Gaza City caused a multi-storey building to collapse and about 40 people were buried under the debris. The Israeli Army (IDF) confirmed the attack and said that the attack was carried out on Hamas terrorists. Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said that four bodies have been recovered so far and dozens of people are still trapped under the debris. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa hospital, said 30 Palestinians had been killed since Wednesday evening.

“We targeted terrorists who were close to Israeli soldiers and posed an immediate threat to them,” the IDF said. According to AFP, about 200 American soldiers will be deployed in Gaza. Their main job is to monitor the ceasefire agreement and assist in the hostage release process.

Trump announced ceasefire agreement

Just hours before the attack, President Donald Trump said that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase. Trump said that as soon as the Israeli government gives approval, the war will end immediately. He also said that all the hostages are expected to be released in 1-2 days. Describing this as a historic and important step, Trump said that this is the first phase of his 20-point peace plan. In this, Hamas will release all the hostages and Israel will withdraw its forces to the agreed limit.
