December 2025 is not only the last month of the year, but also the last chance to complete two very important tax related tasks. If you have not yet filed Belated ITR for FY 2024-25, then 31 December 2025 is the last date.

After this, the option to file ITR will not be available and the risk of penalty, interest and notice may increase. Also, Aadhaar-PAN linking is also mandatory, otherwise PAN may become inactive and banking and investment work may stop. Know both the deadlines, penalties and the easy way in this video. Do it now, save stress later.

Income tax return: The time limit for filing income tax was extended by the government for one day to assessment from 15 September to 16 September 2025 for the year 2025-26. The reason behind this was to give relief to technical flaws and taxpayers. But if you have not filed an ITR even then, then there is no need to worry, because you still have a chance.

Now what option has taxpayers?

If the taxpayers have not filed an ITR within the time limit, they can file it by 31 December 2025 with late fees. The Income Tax Department gives extra time under the rules, but penalty is imposed for it.

According to the rule, ITR can be filed by three months before the end of the assessment year or till its completion (which first) ITR can be filed. This year its last date is 31 December 2025.

Rules to file late

Under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act, if someone’s annual income is more than Rs 5 lakh, then he will have to pay a penalty up to a maximum of Rs 5,000 on late returns i.e. billed returns. At the same time, whose income is up to Rs 5 lakh, they will have to pay a maximum of Rs 1,000 late fee. That is, if the ITR has not been filed within a fixed time limit, the late fee can range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 according to the level of income.

Another important thing

Tax refunds can also be delayed by filing ITR from late. Many times it also comes to the Radar (scrutiny) of the Income Tax Department, which increases the risk of additional investigation. Another thing is to note that if your tax is made and you have not filed income tax, then you will have to pay 1 percent interest under Section 234A of the Income Tax Act.

ITR Filing: It is necessary for every taxpayer in India to file his Income Tax Return (ITR) on time. For this, the government set a time limit every year. This year, this deadline for non-audit taxpayers is September 15 i.e. today. That is, the taxpayers who do not need to audit their accounts, will have to fill their ITR for FY 2024-25 today.

Now the question comes that what will happen if you miss this deadline? There is often confusion in taxpayers about what will be the results of filing returns after the time limit is exceeded? Today we are going to give you information about this.

Will you be able to file returns after 15 September?

The answer is yes, you can still enter your ITR late, but before doing so you have to understand certain conditions, punishments and restrictions. Of course, taxpayers can file their ITR even after the due date. The Income Tax Department gives this option so that people who have missed the time limit can also get a chance to give information about their income and pay taxes properly. However, there are some disadvantages of late ITR filing.

Fine for filing late returns

If you miss the deadline, you may have to pay a fine under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act.

If your total income is more than Rs 5 lakh, then the fine can be up to Rs 5,000.

If the income is less than Rs 5 lakh, then the fine is Rs 1,000.

This penalty is imposed while filing your delayed returns. In addition to jurma, you will also have to pay interest on the dues. It is imposed under section 234A. Its calculation is usually done at the rate of 1 percent per month from the due date of filing the return and the date of payment.

No discount will be available

One of the biggest disadvantages of filing late returns is that the facility of exemption received also ends. This provision comes under section 139 (1) of the Income Tax Act. If you miss the deadline, you cannot forward the deficit (such as commercial deficit, capital deficit etc.). This means that by adjusting the previous loss, you lose the opportunity to save tax in the coming years.

Deadline to fill late returns

You can file your ITR by December 31, 2025. After this date, you cannot file your ITR for that assessment year at all. That is, you can submit late returns, but too much delay is not appropriate.

Non-audit taxpayers will have to be filled today

Today, non-audit taxpayers will have to file their ITR to avoid any fine. Let us know that the Income Tax Department had earlier extended the last date of filing ITR for financial year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) from 30 July, 2025 to 45 days to September 15, 2025.

However, this deadline was not extended for taxpayers whose accounts are required to be audited such as companies, proprietorship and working partner in a firm. They have to file ITRs for assessment year 2025-26 by October 31, 2025. Earlier, the audit report has to be submitted by 30 September, 2025. So far, the Income Tax Department has not announced any detail in this deadline.

Land waiver option became active

The last date for filling ITR for non-audit taxpayers is today, but if he misses for some reason, then there is nothing to panic in it. The Income Tax Department has activated the option of delayed (Condonation of Delay) on the e-filing portal, giving relief to those taxpayers.

In fact, many times people are not able to file returns on time in emergency conditions such as hospitalization or any other serious reasons in the family, then they have been given the option to file a penalty or late return of a penalty. In such cases, the first applicant will have to appeal to forgive the delay and if the request is accepted, then no penalty will have to be given. However, to avail this facility, you will also have to offer enough evidence. If you have evidence, then you can avail this facility by the end of the assessment year.

Income tax filing deadline: Tomorrow is the last chance to file income tax return (ITR) on September 15, 2025. So far, more than 6 crore returns have been filed. In order to avoid any hurry at the last minute, the Income Tax Department has also arranged 24×7 support service for taxpayers. There is also speculation that the deadline to file returns can be increased further. However, nothing has been officially stated about this yet.

Meanwhile, some problems are coming out on the income tax portal. Many chartered accountants and taxpayers are not able to download their annual information statement (AIS). However, the problem is not in the entire system nor all taxpayers are facing it. It is possible that taxpayers trying to log in at the same time are facing such problems. Due to high traffic, the server is overloaded several times.

AIS & Tis Not Connected pic.twitter.com/fvn9au6vmp

Since, now there is only today and tomorrow’s time left in filing returns, so people are depositing their ITR. In such a situation, even though the portal works properly, it is unable to handle the requests of many taxpayers simultaneously. You understand it like a 4-6-lane highway, where some vehicles are slowly moving forward due to traffic jams, while some are going out in speed.

The Income Tax Department had said on social media on September 13, 2025, AIS can no longer be downloaded through any third-party software tool, so now the only way to download AIS is to log on to the e-filing ITR portal and then go on the AIS Compliance Portal (https://ais.insight.gov.in/compliaseportal/aisportn/ However, some users say that the portal is opening comfortably and AIS can be downloaded in a few seconds. At the same time, for some users, AIS is taking up to 10 minutes to download.

What to do now users?

You can use browser such as Microsoft Edge (version 88 or above), Google Chrome (88+), Mozilla Firefox (86+) or Opera (66+). Apart from this, Windows 7 or subsequent version or the latest version of Linux or Mac OS can also be used. Keep your browser cookies and site data clear and if possible, use high -speed Ethernet wired connection.

ITR Filing deadline: Now just two days are left to end the deadline for filing income tax return (ITR). The Income Tax Department said on Saturday that they have received returns of more than six crore people so far for assessment year 2025-26. While the professional body is urging the government to extend the last date. In view of this, the Income Tax Department has also advised all those who have not yet filed ITR for the assessment year 2025-26, they should file their returns as soon as possible to avoid hurry at the last moment.

Income tax department responded

The Income Tax Department said in a post on X, “Thanks to taxpayers and tax professionals who have so far helped us reach the target of 6 crore income tax returns (ITR) and this number is still going on.” Also, the department also informed that their helpdesk is working round the clock for filing returns and related services. This year, the last date for filing non-audit returns was extended from July 31 to September 15 due to delay in release of updated ITR form. The number of returns submitted so far is less than last year. By July 31, 2024, 7.6 crore ITRs were deposited. Till 13 September, this year the number was about six crores.

Thank You Taxpayers & Tax Professionals for helping us Reach the Milestone of 6 Crore Income Tax Returns (ITRS) as of now and Still Counting.

Demand to increase deadline

Professional bodies including Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA), Central India Regional Council and Advocates Tax Bar Association (ATBA) wrote a letter to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), asking for the delays in the portal, delays, delays in utility services, some parts of the country demanded extending time Is. Many tax experts have also mentioned the difficulties faced in filing on social media. However, no official statement has come from the department to extend the deadline.

ITR Filing deadline 2025: The deadline for filing ITR is slowly approaching. It was first increased from 31 July to 15 September. That is, there are only a few days left to file returns. Now the most important question comes that what will happen if you cannot fill your income tax return (ITR) within the stipulated time? Let us give you complete information about this through this news today.

Late fee will have to be paid

Even after crossing 15 September, Section 234F of the Income Tax Act 1961 is implemented on those who do not deposit ITR. Under this, the Income Tax Department imposes fine to file late ITRs on taxpayers. Under this section, penalty is collected by the department. Penalty is imposed according to the income of the taxpayer.

How much penalty will be paid?

If your total income is more than Rs 5 lakh, then you will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

If the total income is less than Rs 5 lakh, then you will not have to pay more than Rs 1,000.

If the income is less than the taxable limit, there will be no fine.

1 September rules change: The month of September starts tomorrow. Some such changes are going to happen from the first date of the month, which will directly affect your pocket. Like every month, banks, government and financial institutions are going to implement many important changes in the month of September. Let’s take a look at these-

Deadline to file ITR

The Income Tax Department increased the last date for filing returns this year from 30 July to 15 September. With this, taxpayers got extra 46 days to file their income tax returns. This relief went to the taxpayers whose accounts are not required to be audited. Taxpayers whose audit audit is necessary, they will have to file their ITR before October 31, 2025.

UPS deadline for central government employees

Central government employees under the National Pension System (NPS) have time till September 30 to choose the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). The first deadline to switch to UPS from NPS was June 30, but given the dull response of employees, it was extended for 90 days. There is a pension system launched for central government employees under UPS, NPS.

Changes related to post office

The Department of Posts (DOP) has now decided to mix the registered post in the speed post from September 1, 2025, so from September 1, if you send any registered post through Indian post within the country, then its delivery will be through speed post. That is, now there will be no separate service of registered posts from next month, all will come in the category of speed posts.

Change in credit card rules

The country’s largest government bank SBI has decided to change its credit card rules from September 1. The bank has changed the reward point program for some of its cards. With this change, such card holders will no longer be given a reward point on digital gaming, government website and merchant platforms.

Income tax return 2025: The deadline for filing ITR is September 15 for those who do not have to audit their accounts. That is, only three weeks are left to file returns, so SMS reminder has been started by the tax department. It is written in this SMS- so far more than 3 crore ITRs have been filed. Please file your ITR for Ay.2025-26 on the e-filing portal before 15.09.25.

Will 3 lakhs of salary have to fill the return?

Now the next question comes that by September 15, who has to submit ITR returns. Will they also have to file returns, whose annual income is up to Rs 3 lakh? According to the Economic Times report, Sanjoli Maheshwari, executive director of Nangia & Company LLP, replied this, saying, “The income limit of income tax return (ITR) for business year 2024-25 is based on Total Income on Total Income on Total Income on Total Income on Tax Research- Old or New.”

She further says, “If the total income is more than the original exemption limit, then the taxpayer should compulsorily file ITR. The original exemption limit in New Tax Reseem is Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh for the old tax system. ‘

Will students have to fill ITR?

Usually people think that ITR only has to be filled by jobbers or businessmen, whereas it is not. In today’s time, students and unemployed youth are also being encouraged to file their ITR, even if their income is less than the original exemption limit. However, this is not mandatory. This is so that they remain a habit because there are many benefits of filing ITRs such as it makes financial credibility, it is easy to claim refund, it becomes easier to do transactions in large amounts, etc.
