ITR Refund: After filing income tax return, people eagerly wait to get the refund. Although refunds have been issued to most of those who filed ITR for the financial year 2024-25, there are many taxpayers whose return money has not yet been received in their accounts. What is the reason for such delay in receiving payment?

On Monday, the Income Tax Department said that some refund claims are being reviewed more carefully as they fall in the ‘high-value’ or ‘red-flagged’ category. These cases usually involve requests for certain deductions that require extra checks before approval. According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), all correct refunds are expected to be issued by December 2025.

How to check claim status?

If you have already filed your Income Tax Return (ITR) and are eligible for a refund, you can now check its status online using your Permanent Account Number (PAN). The Income Tax Department allows taxpayers to do this through the e-filing portal and NSDL-TIN website.

First of all you have to go to the official website of Income Tax and login with user ID and password. Here you will get the option of Income Tax Return in the e-file category. Here by clicking on View Filed Return you will see your claim status. Before the refund is credited, it is important to ensure that your bank account is pre-validated, your return is filed correctly and your ITR is e-verified.

You will get complete information with one click

You can track your refund on NSDL-TIN website. After entering your PAN and selecting the assessment year, the page will display the details of the refund, including whether the refund has been issued or not, the amount and the mode used – check or NEFT. In the meantime, as the department continues its investigation, taxpayers can track their refund status online to ensure they do not miss any updates.

Itr filing new deadline: The last date for filling the Income Tax Return (ITR) has been changed. That is, those who have not yet filed their income tax returns for assessment year 2025-26, can now do so without any fine. Now the deadline for filing tax returns has been increased by one day to Tuesday, September 16. Earlier, the last date for filing ITR without any fine was Monday, 15 September. With this, now taxpayers with non-audit accounts can file their returns till 12 noon tonight.

Why increased deadline?

The date of ITR filing was extended because many people complained of technical disturbances on the e-filing portal. Due to this, people had difficulties in filing returns. Many more people including Chartered Accountants had complained on social media.

CBDT issued a circular saying, “The fixed date to file income tax return (ITR), which was originally on 31 July 2025, was extended to 15 September 2025.” CBDT has now decided to increase the date of filing these ITRs from September 15, 2025 to September 16, 2025. It was also informed in the circular that the e-filing portal will remain in maintenance mode from 12 noon to 2:30 pm on September 16, so the portal will be closed for some time. During this time some changes will be made in it.

ITR Filing: The deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) is ending today. Today, due to the last date, more than 1 crore tax returns are expected to be filed. Till now, 6.29 crore returns have been filed for Assessment Year 2025-26. There has been a jump of 7.5 percent in ITR filing compared to last year.

Looking at the rapid returns being filed today, it seems that this time it will cross the figure of 7.8 crores. Earlier, 6.77 crore returns were filed in Assessment Year 2023-24, 5.82 crore in 2022-23 and 5.77 crore returns in 2021-22.

Advance tax also has deadline today

Experts say that due to the second installment of advance tax, the challenges of September 15 have increased further, which will put a double burden on taxpayers and professionals. Let us tell you that the deadline for filling the second installment of advance tax is also September 15, while its first installment has to be filled by June 15. In the second installment of advance tax, a share of up to 45 percent of the total tax has to be paid.

Explain that people whose tax liability is Rs 10,000 or more annually. That is, those who have to pay Rs 10,000 or more in a year. The Income Tax Department gives them the option to pay tax in installments. People who do not cut TDS from income have to pay advance tax. This includes people earning through stock market or mutual funds, freelancer, NRI.

Help desk also arranged

Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department denied the report on Sunday, claiming that the deadline for filing tax returns is being extended till September 30. While filing ITR, 24×7 help desk has also been arranged to help taxpayers. Under this, support is being provided through call, live chat, X and Webex sessions.

ITR Filing: It is necessary for every taxpayer in India to file his Income Tax Return (ITR) on time. For this, the government set a time limit every year. This year, this deadline for non-audit taxpayers is September 15 i.e. today. That is, the taxpayers who do not need to audit their accounts, will have to fill their ITR for FY 2024-25 today.

Now the question comes that what will happen if you miss this deadline? There is often confusion in taxpayers about what will be the results of filing returns after the time limit is exceeded? Today we are going to give you information about this.

Will you be able to file returns after 15 September?

The answer is yes, you can still enter your ITR late, but before doing so you have to understand certain conditions, punishments and restrictions. Of course, taxpayers can file their ITR even after the due date. The Income Tax Department gives this option so that people who have missed the time limit can also get a chance to give information about their income and pay taxes properly. However, there are some disadvantages of late ITR filing.

Fine for filing late returns

If you miss the deadline, you may have to pay a fine under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act.

If your total income is more than Rs 5 lakh, then the fine can be up to Rs 5,000.

If the income is less than Rs 5 lakh, then the fine is Rs 1,000.

This penalty is imposed while filing your delayed returns. In addition to jurma, you will also have to pay interest on the dues. It is imposed under section 234A. Its calculation is usually done at the rate of 1 percent per month from the due date of filing the return and the date of payment.

No discount will be available

One of the biggest disadvantages of filing late returns is that the facility of exemption received also ends. This provision comes under section 139 (1) of the Income Tax Act. If you miss the deadline, you cannot forward the deficit (such as commercial deficit, capital deficit etc.). This means that by adjusting the previous loss, you lose the opportunity to save tax in the coming years.

Deadline to fill late returns

You can file your ITR by December 31, 2025. After this date, you cannot file your ITR for that assessment year at all. That is, you can submit late returns, but too much delay is not appropriate.

Income tax filing deadline: Tomorrow is the last chance to file income tax return (ITR) on September 15, 2025. So far, more than 6 crore returns have been filed. In order to avoid any hurry at the last minute, the Income Tax Department has also arranged 24×7 support service for taxpayers. There is also speculation that the deadline to file returns can be increased further. However, nothing has been officially stated about this yet.

Meanwhile, some problems are coming out on the income tax portal. Many chartered accountants and taxpayers are not able to download their annual information statement (AIS). However, the problem is not in the entire system nor all taxpayers are facing it. It is possible that taxpayers trying to log in at the same time are facing such problems. Due to high traffic, the server is overloaded several times.

AIS & Tis Not Connected pic.twitter.com/fvn9au6vmp

Since, now there is only today and tomorrow’s time left in filing returns, so people are depositing their ITR. In such a situation, even though the portal works properly, it is unable to handle the requests of many taxpayers simultaneously. You understand it like a 4-6-lane highway, where some vehicles are slowly moving forward due to traffic jams, while some are going out in speed.

The Income Tax Department had said on social media on September 13, 2025, AIS can no longer be downloaded through any third-party software tool, so now the only way to download AIS is to log on to the e-filing ITR portal and then go on the AIS Compliance Portal (https://ais.insight.gov.in/compliaseportal/aisportn/ However, some users say that the portal is opening comfortably and AIS can be downloaded in a few seconds. At the same time, for some users, AIS is taking up to 10 minutes to download.

What to do now users?

You can use browser such as Microsoft Edge (version 88 or above), Google Chrome (88+), Mozilla Firefox (86+) or Opera (66+). Apart from this, Windows 7 or subsequent version or the latest version of Linux or Mac OS can also be used. Keep your browser cookies and site data clear and if possible, use high -speed Ethernet wired connection.

The Income Tax Department has extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2024-25 to 15 September. Now there is only one week left in the deadline, but the speed of the returns filed till September 7 is much slower than expected. Usually people believe that if their annual income is less than tax free limit then there is no need to fill ITR. The reality is that in some circumstances it is mandatory to file ITR, even if your taxable income is zero. Not doing so can only impose penalty, but notice can also be sent by the Income Tax Department.

On depositing more than one crore in current account

If you have deposited an amount of Rs 1 crore or more in any bank’s current account within 1 year, then it is necessary to file an ITR. This rule applies to both cash and digital transactions. The aim of the government is to monitor such big transactions so that black money can be stopped.

On spending more than 2 lakhs on travel abroad

If you have spent 2 lakh or more on foreign travel throughout the year, then it is mandatory to file returns. It is necessary to file an ITR in both the conditions of tea personal trip or business trip.

Electricity bill is over 1 lakh

If your annual electricity bill comes more than Rs 1, then the Income Tax Department makes it mandatory to file an ITR to track the difference between your expenses and income. This rule covers those who show less earnings but spend more.

ITR is also necessary on cutting TDS

If your income is cut on your income 25 thousand rupees or more TDS, then you will have to file ITR. At the same time, this limit has been kept at 50 thousand for senior citizens. Its aim is to ensure that the tax on which the tax is deducted, they give the correct details of their income.

Foreign property or bank account people

If you have any property in another country or you have a signing authority in a bank account of a foreign, then you have to fill ITR in any case. While filing ITR, you have to give complete information about your foreign income and assets. These rules of the Income Tax Department have been made to monitor those whose declared income is low. But their expenses and transactions are large.
