The National Citizen Party (NCP), a political party formed by the leaders of the July Movement in Bangladesh, has joined hands with the Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami for the general elections in the country to be held in February 2026 next year. This alliance was announced by Jamaat Aamir Shafiqur Rehman on Sunday (December 28, 2025).

According to the Dhaka Tribune report, Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman said that NCP and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined the currently eight-party alliance, after which this alliance has now become 10 parties. He said that he has spoken to NCP convenor Naheed Islam some time ago and the students’ party will make a formal announcement by Sunday (December 28, 2025) night.

Dissatisfaction within NCP over Jamaat’s alliance decision

However, dissatisfaction has also come to light within the NCP regarding the decision of alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Many leaders of the party led by Nahid Islam have started submitting their resignations in protest against this decision. According to the report, 30 leaders of the NCP Central Committee had written a letter to Nahid Islam on Saturday (December 27, 2025) opposing any electoral agreement with the Jamaat.

Many party leaders resigned in a week

The Daily Star in its report on Sunday (December 28, 2025) said that more than 170 leaders of the NCP Central Committee have supported the alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. At the same time, just before the announcement by Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rehman, NCP joint convenor Tajnuwa Jabeen resigned from her post on Sunday afternoon (December 28, 2025).

According to the report, in the Facebook post, Jabeen expressed deep disappointment over the party’s policy-making process and its efforts for alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Earlier on Thursday (December 25, 2025), Mir Arshadul Haq, the main leader of the anti-Jamaat faction within the NCP, had also resigned. He was the Joint Member Secretary of NCP and Chief Co-ordinator of Chittagong City Unit. In the last one week, there has been a wave of resignations within the party.

Jamaat-e-Islami gets free hand

On August 8 last year, Yunus had lifted the ban on the organization named Jamaat-e-Islami. This fundamentalist organization hates Hindus. Sheikh Hasina government had banned Jamaat-e-Islami and its student group Islami Chhatra Shibir on August 1, 2024. The reason for this was the violence during the protests against student quota, in which more than 150 people lost their lives. Sheikh Hasina had banned it under the anti-terrorism law.

Jamaat had created massacre in 1971 war
Actually, Jamaat-e-Islami was started in 1941. This organization is completely pro-Pakistan and works on the instructions of ISI. The whole world has seen a glimpse of this in the 1971 war. When Jamaat-e-Islami supported the Pakistani Army in the Bangladesh War of Independence and had a hand in the killing of lakhs of people. In 2013, the Bangladesh court had barred it from contesting elections because its rule was against the constitution.

Jamaat wants to run Bangladesh according to Sharia
On 5 August 2024, Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. After this, Yunus government said that there is no terrorist activity of Jamaat and the allegations of Sheikh Hasina government were wrong. Jamaat is a radical Islamic organization, which wants to make Bangladesh a country with Sharia law. Its student group Shibir is very violent, killing enemies and instigating religious conflicts. Apart from this, this organization hates Hindus and is associated with other fundamentalist groups. After the war crimes verdict in 2013, its people demolished more than 50 Hindu temples and set fire to more than 1,500 Hindu houses and shops.

The 2024 violence saw 2,010 attacks from August 4 to 20. 1,705 families were affected and 152 temples were damaged. The fanaticism of the Jamaat is clearly visible in the killings of Hindus.

Who is Tariq Rehman

Tariq Rehman is the son of former President Ziaur Rehman and has been living in London since 2008. During the Sheikh Hasina regime, he was convicted in several cases, which the BNP described as a political conspiracy. In 2007, he was arrested in a corruption case and there were allegations of serious health problems and torture during detention. In 2008, he got bail and was allowed to go to London for treatment, since then he has been living there.

He was also sentenced in absentia in the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack case. 24 people were killed in this attack, while Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped. In a 2008 Dhaka Tribune series of reports exposing corruption during the BNP regime of 2001–06, he was described as the ‘Dark Prince’. However, in the last one year, the courts have acquitted him in all major cases.

It has been almost one and a half years since the interim government of Muhammad Yunus came to power in Bangladesh, but political turmoil, violence and fundamentalism are increasing in the country. The fundamentalist groups supporting Mohammad Yunus are accusing the government of delaying reforms, not providing justice and secular policies. The murder of Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Usman Hadi has further fueled the violence.

According to experts, now these forces are trying to create instability before the February 2026 elections, due to which attacks on Bangladeshi minorities i.e. Hindus are increasing. According to the UN Human Rights report, more than 2,326 cases were registered from August 2024 to March 2025, which included attacks on temples, property looting and murders.

The reason for increasing fundamentalism in Bangladesh is not only Yunus government but also 5 big villains…

1. Jamaat-e-Islami promoting fundamentalism

This group was banned during the time of Sheikh Hasina, but Yunus removed the ban as soon as he came to government. Now this group is demanding electoral reforms, but is also active in attacks on minorities and anti-India protests. Jamaat-e-Islami has also been accused of being linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. Experts believe that Jamaat-e-Islami will benefit from Hadi’s assassination.

2. Hifazat-e-Islam wants to bring Sharia law

According to the East Asia Forum report, this group is made up of Sunni Islamists and their huge madrassa network and supporters, which works against women’s rights and secular reforms. Hifazat-e-Islam has organized large demonstrations on the proposal of equal property rights for women. The leader of this group, Mamunul Haq, also met Yunus, because he is pressurizing to implement Sharia law in Bangladesh. 3. Hizb-ut-Tahrir waving ISIS flags in Bangladesh

Sharif Usman Hadi, a senior leader of Inquilab Manch, was himself a leader with anti-India and fundamentalist views. After Hadi’s assassination, Inquilab Manch threatened to topple the Yunus government. Earlier this group was a supporter of Yunus, but now there is a direct competition between the government and Inquilab Manch. As a result, after Hadi’s death, violence flared up to such an extent that newspaper offices were torched. Inquilab Manch also wants to implement radical Islamic culture in the country.

5. Influence of Mamunul Haq and Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani

Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani was the leader of an al-Qaeda linked group, who was released during the Yunus government. Rahmani is the chief of Al-Qaeda linked terrorist organization Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). The release of this terrorist has created problems for India, because this terrorist organization is trying to create a Jihadi network with the help of sleeper cells.

Mamunul Haq was jailed for inciting violence, but was released and is now active. Mamunul Haq is considered a leader in Bangladesh who implemented Islamic principles in government policies, advocated Sharia law and carried forward traditional Islamic works.

Groups spreading poison against India

These groups together are pushing for reforms under Sharia law, ban on women’s rights and anti-India slogans. In many reports he has been described as being linked to Pakistan and other foreign powers. ‘India should give proof of being a good neighbour’- Jamaat
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar said during a press conference at the party office in Moghbazar, Dhaka that if India considers itself a ‘good neighbour’ and a ‘friendly country’, then its first responsibility is to send Hasina back to Bangladesh. He said, ‘The country which gives shelter to a fugitive death row accused is actually standing on the side of the criminal. We demand that they be returned immediately.

Responding to the verdict, Porwar said that there is no scope for raising questions on this case. He claimed that the entire trial was ‘transparent, fair and as per international standards’.

Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death
The downfall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina began with the student-led rebellion in Bangladesh last year and she had to leave the country on August 5, 2024. What followed was a chain of events that ultimately led to his conviction and death sentence in absentia by the International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh (ICT-Bangladesh) on Monday.

This hearing continued for the fourth day on Tuesday.

Provision of caretaker government under SC decision

Bangladesh’s leading daily Jugantor quoted Monir as saying that there is talk of forming a caretaker government within 15 days of the dissolution of Parliament, now there is no Parliament. Parliament was dissolved more than a year ago and an interim government is running the country. Apart from this, there are some other issues, so even if the system of caretaker government is brought back under the decision of the Supreme Court, it is not possible in the upcoming elections.

Last week, on the third day of hearing on appeals and review petitions challenging the 2011 verdict, Jamaat’s counsel told the Supreme Court that the system cannot be effectively implemented under the current interim government as Parliament is inactive.

Call to work like ‘caretaker government’

He further said that whatever decision the Appellate Division makes, it should be in line with the proposals of the July Charter regarding the caretaker government system. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on the other hand, recently called on the Mohammad Yunus-led interim government to act as a ‘caretaker government’ to ensure that next year’s elections are held in a free, acceptable and fair manner.

Accusations and religious polarization on ISKCON

Leaders of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh in a big meeting held in Chittagong described ISKCON as an extremist Hindutva organization. The rally was presided over by the organization’s central Naib-e-Amir Maulana Ali Usman, who accused ISKCON of spreading unrest in the society. He said that the way action was taken against Awami League due to political crimes. Similarly, ISKCON should also be banned. He argued that peace and communal harmony in the country is possible only when organizations like ISKCON are brought under the ambit of law.

ISKCON is an international religious organization

It has been active in social and cultural activities in Bangladesh for a long time, but now it is being targeted as an organization spreading Indian cultural influence. Use of derogatory language against Maulana Tauqir

Hussaini said, ‘Even more disturbing is that some political leaders have used derogatory language against a reputed scholar like Maulana Tauqir Raza, which highlights the disgusting politics behind this entire episode. Such an inconsistent use of state power not only weakens the rule of law, but also deepens separation and mistrust.

The Jamaat president said, ‘India has faced countless protests and movements in its democratic journey. Although violent incidents such as stone pelting or damage to property should always be condemned, no allegations are valid without proper investigation and it is a basic principle of governance that law enforcement agencies respond with equality and genetics.

Communities are being divided

He said, ‘Similar movements in the past have been managed without any harsh allegations or balanced response of criminalization of the entire community. Targeting and taking action against any one group is a violation of both the spirit of the Constitution and the principles of fair governance.

Maulana said, ‘What is being displayed today is the misuse of state machinery and law enforcement for political objectives, which is turning the challenges of law and order into communal polarization opportunities. Every time elections come close, this cycle is repeated, communities are divided, mistrust is created and the social fabric of the nation is sacrificed for narrow benefits. This is a dangerous path, which is destroying democratic institutions and constitutional values.

Syed Saadatullah appeals to Muslim communities

Syed Saadatullah Hussaini said, ‘We appeal to the Muslim community to be firm, peaceful and follow the messages of patience, kindness and compassion of Prophet Muhammad (there is peace and grace of God). At the same time, we urge the government to immediately withdraw excessive allegations, release the people detained wrongly and restore equality, genetics and justice in governance.

Hussaini said, ‘India’s strength lies in the social fabric of its constitution, its pluralism and mutual respect. Weakening these foundations for short -term political benefits causes damage to not only a community, but the entire nation.

The education system of Bangladesh is currently at the center of major controversy. The Mohammad Yunus administration has proposed the appointment of music and dance teachers in primary schools under the National Education Policy (NEP).
