Taking a big step, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to take 215 schools associated with Jamaat-e-Islami and its colleague Falah-e-Aam Trust. The state education department has issued this order by press release on Friday (August 22).

This decision has been taken to protect the educational future of students and maintain law and order. The management of these schools will now be under the District Magistrates, who will set up new management committees.

Why did the government give this order?

While issuing the order, the School Education Department said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had declared Jamaat-e-Islami as an illegal organization in February 2019 and February 2024. Intelligence agencies reported that many schools are directly or indirectly associated with this organization. According to PTI reports, the validity of the existing managing committees of these schools has ended and negative reports have been received against them. Therefore, the government has entrusted the responsibility of all 215 schools to the district administration.

Students’ education will not be affected

According to the new order, the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner will manage these schools and set up new committees. By coordinating with the School Education Department, it will be ensured that there is no obstruction in the students’ education and the quality of education remains in line with the new education policy. Secretary Ram Niwas Sharma clarified that this step is only for the future safety and betterment of the students.

How many schools in which districts of the valley?

This action has been taken in all 10 districts of Kashmir Valley. The highest number of 53 schools in Baramulla, 37 in Anantnag, 36 in Kupwara, 22 in Pulwama, 22 in Budgam, 20 in Budgam, 16 in Kulgam (Kulgam), 15 in Shopian, 15 in Shopian, Ganderbal and Bandhora (6-6 in Bandipora) and 4 schools in Srinagar (Srinagar) have been managed by the government.

However, political reactions have begun to this decision. Sajjad Lone, president of the People’s Conference, has termed the decision as harsh and has accused the government led by Omar Abdullah of being a “partner” and a BJP team in this decision without naming any party.

Sajjad Lone tweeted, “The Jammu and Kashmir government has forcibly taken 215 schools under its control. And there is no reward for guessing. The elected government has passed the order. Shame and shamelessness in this government have taken new meaning. They are setting new standards of flattery. And just remember those teachings and orders that this party did not remain against its protests. The dismissal of the employees is a similar partner in all the work done.
