In the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, Prashant Kishore’s Jansuraj Party had given a different atmosphere to the entire election by entering the field with tremendous campaigning. While fielding candidates on 238 seats, the party had claimed that the public is ready for change and Jansuraj will play a decisive role. However, the picture that emerged after the counting of votes made the political strength of the party clear. The results showed that the impact of heavy campaigning could not translate into votes on the ground.

The party did not get a single victory in the fight for 238 seats. Only in Madhaura, Jansuraj candidate came second, in almost all other areas the party was reduced to third or fourth position. The counting of votes also made it clear that in many places the party got better votes than expected, but they were not enough to win any seat or pose a serious challenge.

In some seats, Jansuraj’s votes were many times more than NDA’s defeat.

An interesting aspect in the election results was that in many places the number of votes received by Jansuraj candidates was much more than the margin of defeat of the NDA candidate. Because of this, there is a heated discussion in political circles that if Jansuraj had not been in the fray, the result of these seats might have looked different.

Those seven seats where Jansuraj’s votes became a big factor

Below are the details of those 7 seats where NDA lost by a very small margin, but Jansuraj got many times more votes. These seats became the most interesting story of the election results.

Dhaka – NDA lost by only 178 votes, Jansuraj got 8,347 votes.
Jehanabad – difference 793, Jansuraj got 5,760 votes
Makhdumpur – margin 1,830, Jansuraj 4,803 votes
Tikari – margin 2,058, Jansuraj got 2,552 votes
Goh – margin 4,041, Jansuraj 7,996 votes
Bodhgaya – margin 881, Jansuraj 4,024 votes
Chanpatia – margin 602, Jansuraj 37,172 votes

Chanpatia became the biggest example

In Chanpatia, Jansuraj candidate Manish Kashyap secured 37,172 votes, while the NDA candidate lost the election by just 602 votes. This is the reason why this seat became the most discussed seat of the entire election.

Complete picture of Jansuraj in figures

Jansuraj Party contested elections on 238 seats, but could not convert any seat into victory. Naveen Kumar Singh stood second in Marhaura, but he had to face defeat from the RJD candidate by about 27 thousand votes. In all other areas, the party’s performance was mediocre and it could not reach above the third-fourth position.

Jan Suraj Party, which contested for the first time in Bihar Assembly elections, has failed to win the trust of the public and spokesperson Pawan K. Verma has clearly said that the party will now seriously review the reasons for this defeat. After the results were announced on 14 November, Verma admitted that despite a huge campaign and expectations, Jan Suraj could not bring a big increase in public support. Let us tell you that in today’s elections, NDA seems to be winning the elections with an overwhelming majority. The opposition parties are in bad condition.

status of election results

According to the latest figures, NDA is leading on more than 190 seats and the opposition Indian Alliance is seen not even touching the mark of 40 seats. In NDA, JDU is leading on 78 seats, BJP on 91, LJP (Ram Vilas) on 22 and HAM (S) on 5 seats. On the other hand, in the grand alliance, RJD is leading on 28 seats, Congress on 4, CPI (ML) on 3 seats, while BSP is leading on one, AIMIM on 5 and Rashtriya Lok Morcha on 4 seats. Election Commission data shows that Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party seems to be struggling even to open its account.

Pawan Verma’s reaction

Verma said that Jan Suraj contested the elections with complete honesty and conviction but if he does not get the trust of the public then the party will introspect. According to PTI, he said that there was no lack of efforts but the results were not as per expectations. According to Verma, despite the electoral setback, Jan Suraj has firmly established issues like employment, migration, education and corruption-free Bihar in mainstream politics.

Statement regarding further strategy and PK

Verma said that the party will review its shortcomings and will soon decide what to do next. He also admitted that Nitish Kumar still enjoys wide acceptance in Bihar and the people have given him the mandate again. Rejecting the speculations about Prashant Kishor leaving Bihar, Verma said that it is his personal decision to stay or go but Bihar and PK cannot leave each other. PK will share feedback on future strategy after the full results are out.

As soon as the elections for 243 assembly seats of Bihar are over, many agencies have released exit polls. Almost all exit polls show NDA forming the government. According to the survey, Prashant Kishore may face a big setback in this election. Jansuraj has not been predicted to get even 10 seats in any exit poll.

Prashant Kishore got maximum seats in this survey

Peoples Pulse survey has given maximum 0-5 seats to Jansuraj. In this, NDA may get 133-159 seats, Grand Alliance may get 75-101 seats and others may get 2-8 seats. According to the exit poll of TIF Research, NDA is expected to get 145-163 seats, Grand Alliance will get 76-95 seats and others will get 3-6 seats.

NDA’s victory in exit polls

In the exit poll of MATRIZE-IANS, NDA has been given 147-167 seats and Grand Alliance has been given 70-90 seats, Jansuraj has been given 0-2 seats, others have been given 2-8 seats. In this, NDA is estimated to get 48 percent votes, Grand Alliance 37 percent and others 15 percent. CHANAKAYA STRATEGIES has given zero seat to Jansuraj. In this survey, NDA has been given 130-138 seats, Grand Alliance has been given 100-108 seats and others have been given 3-5 seats.

How many seats will Jansuraj get in POLSTRAT-JVC survey?

In the exit poll of POLSTRAT, NDA has been given 133-148 seats, Grand Alliance has been given 87-102 seats, Jansuraj has been given zero, others have been given 3-5 seats. According to JVC’s exit poll, NDA is expected to get 135-150 seats, Grand Alliance 88-103 seats, Jansuraj 0-1 seat and others 3-6 seats.

This time bumper voting was recorded in both the phases of elections in Bihar. During the first phase, more than 65 percent voting took place on November 6 and more than 67 percent voting took place on November 11. Prashant Kishor had formed Jan Suraj Party after doing a long march in Bihar. He had fielded his candidates on all 243 seats, but due to technical reasons, the nominations of his candidates were rejected on three seats.

(Disclaimer- With the second phase of elections, voting has taken place on all 243 seats in Bihar. The country is waiting to know whose government is going to be formed in Bihar. The wait is nearing the end. Different survey agencies have conducted the exit poll of Bihar. Therefore, following the guidelines of the Election Commission, we will release the first number of exit poll at 6.30 pm.

This time Prashant Kishor has entered Bihar with full force, but amidst the political strategy, a news created a stir. His name entry was found in the voter lists of both Bihar and West Bengal both times. On hearing this, there was an uproar in the political circles. Now not only posters and rallies, but cleaning of voter list has also become a heavy weapon in the election field. In such a situation, the question arises whether this is a mistake or an intentional fraud? And if something goes wrong, what punishment can be imposed, let us know.

It is a crime to have two voter cards

In India, it is mandatory for every voter above 18 years of age to have his own EPIC (voter-ID). According to the electoral rules and guidelines of the Election Commission, the name of any citizen should not be in the voter list of more than one assembly constituency or more than one state. If someone deliberately hides his existence and registers a new name at some other place, then it is considered a crime and there is a provision for punishment.

What does the law say?

Dual registration of voters is a serious matter under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and its related legal provisions. As per the rules, knowingly suppressing old registration and applying for new registration is punishable with fine and/or jail term as per law; In some provisions, there is also mention of imprisonment up to one year. Based on the instructions of the courts and the Election Commission, where there is scope for rectification of duplicate entry if it is done by mistake or unintentionally, then strict action is possible if it is done intentionally.

How can we improve?

But punishment is not considered automatically decided in every case. The stance of election officials often varies depending on context and intent. Whether the person had actually registered at the other place while living legally at two places, whether he had forgotten to cancel the earlier registration, or whether a new application was made by hiding the fact, the answers to all these questions are decided after investigation. The Election Commission has repeatedly said that those who have made two cards by mistake, should get their records corrected by filling the form and the old voter card should be cancelled. In the main phase, voters can get their records corrected through forms like Form 7 or Form 8.

Can action be taken in Prashant Kishore’s case?

In the case of Prashant Kishore, his team said that an application has been made to cancel the Bengal card. That is, at present this matter is also in the direction of reform process, but despite this, there will be a need for investigation and formal scope. If the case is indeed found to have been filed deliberately, then action can be taken under the Representation of the People Act and related sections.

Also read: Can the state government abolish the law made in the Parliament, questions arising after Tejashwi’s statement on Waqf?
