Strong earthquake tremors were felt in northern Japan late on Monday night (8 December 2025). The intensity of the powerful earthquake that occurred at 11:15 pm was measured at 7.5. Its center was about 80 kilometers away from the northern coast of Honshu. The tremors in Aomori, Iwate and surrounding cities were so strong that people panicked and came out of their homes.

A few minutes after the earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas. Waves about 70 centimeters high rose at Iwate’s Kuji Port, while water rising up to half a meter was seen on many other shores. The local administration had issued a warning in view of the danger of tsunami. However, later people got relief when the danger subsided.

23 people injured, chaos on the road

Most injuries during the earthquake were caused by falling objects. Several guests at a hotel in Hachinohe were injured after falling to the ground. A person’s car got stuck in a pothole caused by a road collapse in the Tohoku region. Overall, 23 people have been confirmed injured, although the condition of most is said to be stable.

Videos of shaking buildings went viral on social media

Immediately after the earthquake, a large number of videos started going viral on social media. In a video the entire office is seen shaking. The vehicles parked on the roadside are shaking due to the strong tremors of the earthquake. Many people said that the tremors of the earthquake were felt for more than a minute.

Electricity cut off and transport services halted

After the tremors, electricity to about 800 houses was cut off so that there was no possibility of any accident. High-speed Shinkansen trains were completely stopped for some time. Services of many local trains were also disrupted. Hundreds of passengers remained stranded overnight at Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport waiting for the situation to return to normal.

Earthquake trembled in Japan caused the earth. The earthquake occurred on the eastern coast of Honshu Island late on Saturday (4 October). The shocks were so fast that the surrounding buildings also trembled. The intensity of this earthquake was measured at 6.0 on the Richter scale. According to the National Earthquake Science Center (NCS), the center of this earthquake was at 50 km depth inside the ground. In such a depth, only medium to moderate earthquake category comes.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the sea near the east coast of Honshu Island. The shocks were the most felt in the coastal areas, including Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate provinces. According to local media reports, earthquake tremors were felt for several seconds, causing people to move out of homes and buildings and run towards open places. However, no major damage or loss of life and property has been reported so far.

No tsunami warning continues
The Meteorological Department of Japan (JMA) and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued after this earthquake. The center of the bhikdal was definitely within the sea, but the deepening of the depth being 50 km was less likely to be less likely.

Japan earthquake sensitive country
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the activity of tectonic plates persists. Earthquakes of small and moderate intensity often occur in this area, while large earthquakes sometimes cause heavy havoc. Experts say that buildings and bridges in Japan have been built according to high seismic standards, which can reduce the effects of earthquake to a great extent.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the coastal areas of several countries in the Pacific Ocean, including China, Peru and Ecuador, after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday (30 July 2025) in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. This has increased concern in the entire Pacific Ocean region.

The center of this powerful earthquake was about 119 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamachtski, which is a city in Russia with a population of close to 1.8 lakhs. The earthquake includes Russia, Japan, America, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Solomon Islands, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Philippines, Guam and Northern Mariana Island and New Zealand.

Necessary steps taken after earthquake

The nuclear plant center in Japan was evacuated in Japan after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia. How dangerous the tsunami is can be gauged from the fact that the 60 cm high tsunami waves are hitting the coast. At some places, its height has also been seen 15 feet. Waves are also colliding in California, USA. Apart from this, people living along the beach in Hawaii have also been advised to visit safe places. An order has also been issued to close the airport in Hawaii. At the same time, about 2 lakh 80 thousand people have been shifted to safe places in Shanghai, China.

Japan’s nuclear center vacant

No tsunami wave in New Zealand and Australia

Although no tsunami wave has been recorded in New Zealand and Australia so far, the administration has asked people not to go to the sea, do not do any activity towards the sea and keep an eye on radio, alert systems. New Zealand has strengthened the disaster system since the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and now a vigilance is being worked on the policy later.

How long will the threat of tsunami remain?

Tsunami waves are being recorded continuously in coastal countries of the Pacific Ocean. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) have said that the threat of tsunami may remain for the next 12 to 30 hours.

How dangerous can the effect of tsunami be?
The waves of tsunami causes havoc not only by height, but with speed and force. According to Hawaii Governor Josh Green, a 6 -inch (15 cm) wave can also drop a person. A wave of 2 feet (60 cm) can shed cars and motorcycles. A wave of 3 feet (90 cm) can drop to the fence, tree and street lights. The waves collide with the shore at a speed of 700 to 800 km/h.
