In Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is returning to government with a record-breaking victory. The ruling party has got two-thirds majority in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday (08 February). Japanese media has given this information citing initial results.

After this landslide victory in the parliamentary elections, the Japanese PM said in an interview to the public television network NHK that his focus will be on pursuing policies that will make Japan more developed and strong. After the victory, Takaichi reached LDP headquarters, where he celebrated the victory. Takaichi hoped that his LDP party, along with its new ally, the Japan Innovation Party, would gain a majority in this election. At the same time, the new alliance of opposition parties could not present any challenge to the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

Takaichi achieved majority
According to NHK, Sanae Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had won 316 seats by Monday (February 9) morning alone, easily surpassing the majority mark of 261 seats in Japan’s 465-member lower house. This is the first time since the establishment of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in 1955, that the party has received such support. Earlier, late Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone had won 300 seats in 1986.

Takaichi said that she will try to carry forward her policies and plans, and will also try to get the support of opposition parties. Takaichi’s popularity remains intact, but the current ruling party, the LDP, which has ruled Japan for seven decades, has faced funding and religious scandals in recent years. Takaichi decided to hold elections on time only three months after coming to power. Whose popularity is at its peak so that he can improve the situation.
