Five people died in a horrific road accident on Sunday (07 December) in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Four men and a 17-year-old boy lost their lives in a collision between a car and a truck. Police gave this information. Police said that the accident took place in the early hours near Patratoli village of Duldula police station area when the people in the car were returning to their native place Khatanga after watching an ‘orchestra show’ at a fair near Manora.

Duldula police station in-charge KK Sahu said, “The head-on collision between the car and the truck was so strong that the car was completely damaged. All five people in the car died on the spot.” After the incident, some villagers reached the spot and immediately informed the police about the accident.

The official said that the deceased have been identified as Ramprasad Yadav (26), Uday Kumar Chauhan (18), Sagar Tirkey (22), Deepak Pradhan (19) and Ankit Tigga (17). All of them were Khatanga residents. Police station in-charge KK Sahu said that after the accident, the truck driver fled leaving the vehicle and the search for him is going on.

Eyewitnesses said that Bolero was coming from Raikera. Due to the high speed, it went uncontrolled and entered the immersion procession directly. At the time of the accident, about one hundred and fifty people were involved in the procession, who were going towards the pond for Ganpati immersion. Due to the collision of the vehicle, people jumped into the air and fell on the ground and many people got buried under the vehicle. This caused chaos and people started screaming.

SP and Collector reached the spot

Local police, SP and collector reached the spot as soon as the information of the accident was received. He started the well being of the injured and started relief work. The police is doing a thorough investigation into the accident and the dialect is preparing for legal action against the driver.

After the accident, CMHO Dr. GS Jatra alerted the health staff. At the same time, BMO Dr. Sunil Lakra is engaged in the treatment of the injured people with his team. Jashpur MLA Raimuni Bhagat also reached the garden hospital late at night and met the injured and their families. He assured all possible help to the affected families.
