US President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously elected Prime Minister. PM Modi broke former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of remaining in office for 4,399 days as an elected Prime Minister. Regarding this, a meeting of NDA leaders was also held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi which was addressed by PM Modi. Donald Trump called PM Modi a great Prime Minister and an excellent human being.

Trump congratulated PM Modi

US President Trump posted on Instagram and wrote, ‘My friend, congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest serving PM. He is really a very good Prime Minister. He is a strong and intelligent person. He will get great success in life also. PM Modi has thanked Trump for his congratulatory message. He said, ‘President Trump, thank you for your good wishes. I look forward to working with you to further advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of both our countries and the world.

PM Modi made a record

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi remained in office for more than 14 years, but her tenure was not continuous. Because of this, PM Modi has become the elected Prime Minister who has served the longest continuously in the history of the country. He has served from taking oath for the first time in 2014 to getting the mandate for the second consecutive time in 2019 and historically for the third consecutive time in 2024.

While addressing the NDA leaders in Bharat Mandapam, he highlighted the achievements of his government and targeted the Congress fiercely. He said, ‘There was neither good governance, nor policy, nor intention nor decision in the Congress growth rate. For the first time, NDA government came under the leadership of Atal ji, only then we got a glimpse of how development gains momentum. But, unfortunately, in 2004, the country again got caught in the whirlwind of instability and the clutches of Congress.

PM Modi lashed out at Congress

He said, ‘One of the major successes of the 12 years of NDA is that the country has become free from the vicious cycle of Congress. Congress had plunged the country into the pit of helplessness, destitution and inferiority complex. The country was made to realize that development in India happens only slowly and rapid development is not possible in India. The slow development was very cleverly given a name, ‘Hindu Growth Rate’ i.e. the working style of the Congress, the responsibility of the Congress, the failure of the Congress, but the stigma was put in the name of the large Hindu population of the country.

Today on Wednesday (June 10) he is completing 12 years as the head of the central government. On this occasion, PM Modi is receiving good wishes from all the leaders of the country and the world. In view of this, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has congratulated PM Modi.

Meloni posted on X on Wednesday and tagged PM Modi and congratulated him. He said that best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has today become the longest serving elected Prime Minister in the history of India.

Meloni also recalled her bilateral meeting in Rome a few weeks ago, about which she seemed very happy. Apart from this, in his message he talked about the strengthening relations between the two countries. He said that both the countries have together started a special strategic partnership. This partnership has been prepared keeping the future in mind. This will create great new opportunities for progress for the citizens of both the countries.

Big record in Indian politics
PM Modi has made a big record in Indian politics on Wednesday. Narendra Modi, who took oath as Prime Minister for the first time on May 26, 2014, has completed 4,399 days. Along with this, he has also become the leader who has been the longest serving Prime Minister of India after the implementation of the Constitution.

The country’s first general elections were held in the year 1951-52. The Indian National Congress (INC) had captured 364 seats out of 489 and its vote share was about 45%. This was the period when a single party was in power over the entire country. But today, after 70 years, the same Congress is limited to the government of only four states. Is this 140-year-old party, which once decided the direction and condition of the country, now counting its last breaths or is it waiting for a new beginning?

Congress reached every village by winning more than 400 seats

Congress prepared its political ground through powerful leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. The party held power at the Center for more than 50 years between 1952 and 2014. In the 1984 elections, Congress had got a record of more than 400 seats. This was the time when Congress’s support base extended from Hindu-dominated society to minorities and deprived classes. The organization of the party was strong from village to village and a complete system was running under the name ‘Congress System’.

When and how did the disintegration of Congress begin?

Experts believe that the real decline of Congress began after 1989, when it lost absolute majority power at the Center and had to depend on coalition politics. Allegations of corruption, internal factionalism in the organization and the rise of regional parties started hollowing out the roots of the party. Then in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress was overthrown and it was reduced to only 44 seats, while its vote share was reduced to 19.3%. After slight improvement in 2019, the party secured 99 seats and 21.26% vote share in 2024, but still proved to be dwarf in front of the Modi wave.

Current reality: Government of only 4 states

If we look at the latest situation of 2026, Congress currently has its government in only four states. After a big victory in Kerala in the 2026 assembly elections, the Congress is now in power in three southern states – Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala, apart from only Himachal Pradesh in North India. In Jharkhand, it is part of the government in alliance with JMM, but the leadership there is with Hemant Soren.

In states like Bihar and Tamil Nadu, the party is either playing the role of a minor ally or is completely marginalized. At the same time, in states like Delhi, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Assam, Congress’s support base has either ended or is very weak.

What are the five big reasons for the decline of Congress?

The decline of Congress cannot be explained by one or two reasons, there is a well-planned political process behind it:

Weak leadership and organizational discord: Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the party has faced more than 95 electoral defeats. Internal factionalism and disconnection of the high command from ground reality is continuously weakening the party.

Crisis of ideology: BJP projected Congress as a politician of ‘Muslim appeasement’, which shook the confidence of Hindu majority voters.

Rise and polarization of BJP: Since 2014, Congress has not won an outright victory in any contest in North India because BJP has been successful in polarizing on religious lines.

Process of defection and leaving the party: After 2014, hundreds of leaders and workers left Congress and joined BJP or other parties. This trend was at its peak between 2017 and 2021.

Distrust in coalition politics: The allies of the India alliance, be it the Trinamool Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party, are not ready to accept the national leadership of the Congress, which has weakened the opposition unity.

So is the Congress Party going to end?

The answer to this question is not easy. However, the India alliance is limited to only 6 states and one union territory and many BJP leaders are calling it ‘non-existent outside Kerala’. Despite this, it is difficult to make predictions in politics. The 99 seats won in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections definitely proved that the party still has the strength to fight. The growing influence of the party in South India and movements like ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ have energized the workers.

But the future of the party will depend on how quickly it overcomes its weaknesses. Congress will have to build a strong organization, rework the caste and regional equations and set a clear ideological direction. These are the challenges that the party will have to overcome. If Congress fails to do this, then its story in the history books will be limited to a ‘golden past’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha strongly targeted the Congress. He said that Congress is not able to digest how Modi has reached the post of Prime Minister. Congress calls itself a shop of love. Now the love shop owners talk about digging my grave. Digging graves is not their slogan but their sentiment.

Why does Congress want to dig PM Modi’s grave?

PM Modi said that we are preparing the ground for developed India. Congress is organizing programs to dig the grave of Modi. Those opening love shops are raising slogans of ‘Modi will dig your grave’. What kind of shop of love is this, which talks about digging the grave of a citizen of the country? Is this not an insult to the Constitution? PM Modi has given 7 big reasons for this:

Nehru ji had done injustice to the country. He had made a big mistake by signing the Indus Water Treaty. We put that agreement into oblivion, that is why you raise slogans of digging Modi’s grave.

Congress’s problem is something else. They are not able to digest how Modi reached here and how can Modi survive after reaching here, hence they feel that the only way out is that Modi will dig your grave.

Congress never encouraged startup culture. They are not able to fix even their home startup. Today our government supported more than 2 lakh startups. But they have only one way, Modi will dig your grave.

Earlier there used to be repeated news in the country that the Army does not have ammunition or bullet proof jackets. Don’t even have shoes to stand in the snow. We opened the coffers for the soldiers of the country. Therefore, they have no option left and want to dig Modi’s grave.

Congress feels that the Prime Minister’s chair is their property. Congress is worried about how Modi has reached here. Nehru had done a lot of injustice to the country, we rectified it. We demolished wall 370, so want to dig a grave.

We brought peace to the North East and Pakistani terrorists respond by entering our homes, so they want to dig my grave.

We do Operation Sindoor, which causes them trouble, so they dig Modi’s grave. Take steps to deal with Maoist terrorism.

I have been abused in the House for 25 years: PM Modi

PM Modi said that even after this he will give a statement, see the Prime Minister was crying in the Rajya Sabha also. For the last 25 years, there has not been a single session of Parliament in which Modi was not abused in this Parliament. Someone had asked me the secret of my health, I had said that I abuse two kilograms. Why do they want to dig Modi’s grave? This is not a slogan, it is a reflection of the hatred within them.

Those who consider themselves kings speak on economic inequality: PM Modi

PM Modi said, ‘From the discussion I saw, I feel that its level should have been higher. Congress has spent many years in the government, they should have ensured high level debate, but they missed this opportunity also. How can the country trust such people? Yesterday, I was listening to an honorable member who takes great pride in calling himself ‘King’. But tell me, when someone who considers himself a king speaks about economic inequality, one is forced to think whether we are really forced to see such days?

Amidst the uproar over former Indian Army chief General MM Naravane during the budget session of Parliament, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey has given advice to the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Referring to the letter of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, he targeted Rahul Gandhi.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey shared a post on social media platform X on Monday (February 2, 2026). Dubey said in the post, ‘Rahul Gandhi should immediately read the views of his grandfather Nehru ji about the then Army Chief General Cariappa ji. General Thimayya’s letter, Field Marshal Manekshaw’s letter and Mathai ji’s book are very dangerous. Have some regard for national security.

What did Nishikant Dubey say in the post?

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also shared a picture in his X post. It was written in bold letters in the picture, ‘General Cariappa has completely derailed, mentally and in every way. The strained relationship between Nehru and the first army chief revealed in the letters.

Rahul Gandhi ji@RahulGandhi Read the thoughts of your grandfather Nehru ji about the then Army Chief General Cariappa ji. General Thimayya’s letter, Field Marshal Manekshaw’s letter and Mathai ji’s book are very dangerous. Please pay some attention to national security pic.twitter.com/Pe35VO9LrY

 — Dr Nishikant Dubey (@nishikant_dubey) February 2, 2026

It read, ‘In the Prime Minister’s view, General Cariappa’s frequent interference in non-military matters often became a cause of conflict. Due to this, many sharp letters were written between the two, which clearly shows the deep gulf between India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and the first Army Chief General M. Cariappa.

BJP MP raised many questions on Rahul Gandhi?

“Who gave Tibet to China?”

“Who gave Aksai Chin to China saying not a blade of grass grows there?”

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, while talking to journalists in the Parliament complex, asked many questions at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. He said, ‘Rahul Gandhi should first answer who gave Tibet to China? Who gave Aksai Chin to China, that too saying that not even a single strand of grass grows there? China, which was never our neighbour, had a border with India, then who made it our country’s neighbour? Weren’t Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet the three buffer states between India and China?

Budget 2026: The country’s general budget will be presented on 1 February. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget in Parliament for the 9th consecutive time. This is a new record in itself. Generally, the responsibility of presenting the budget rests with the Finance Minister, but there were many such occasions in the country when the Prime Ministers of the country had to come forward and present the budget. Let us know when and why this happened?

Jawaharlal Nehru

The first Prime Minister to present the Union Budget was Jawaharlal Nehru. He presented the budget for the financial year 1958-59. In fact, the then Finance Minister TT Krishnamachari had to resign from his post on February 12, 1958, due to his name appearing in the currency scam. Justice Chagla Commission had found him guilty of corruption in the Mundra scam. After his departure, Prime Minister Nehru came forward and took charge of the Finance Ministry and presented the budget himself.

Starting his budget speech, he mentioned all the unusual circumstances under which he was presenting the budget. In this budget presented by him, ‘Gift Tax’ proposal was made. In this, transfer of property worth more than Rs 10,000 was brought under the ambit of ‘Gift Tax’. However, it was also mentioned that there will be no tax on gift up to Rs 1 lakh to the wife.

Indira Gandhi

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi also presented the Union Budget in 1970. In 1969, when Morarji Desai resigned from the post of Finance Minister, Indira Gandhi had to come forward. Taking charge of the Finance Ministry, he presented the budget in February 1970. In fact, after the death of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister, which Morarji Desai had opposed.

Due to internal strife in the party and differences with Indira Gandhi, Congress expelled him from the party on November 12, 1969. After this, Indira Gandhi, taking charge of the Finance Ministry, presented the budget on February 28, 1970, in which the limit for ‘Gift Tax’ was reduced from Rs 10000 to Rs 5000. During this period, a major change was also made in the indirect tax, the tax on cigarettes was directly increased from 3 percent to 22 percent.

Rajiv Gandhi

The budget for the financial year 1987-88 was presented by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in which he laid emphasis on technology as well as modernization. In this budget presented by him, he had presented the proposal of corporate tax for the first time. Under this, tax was imposed on the earnings of domestic and foreign companies.

In view of the investigation into the scam related to the Bofors gun deal, VP Singh’s dispute with Rajiv Gandhi was continuously increasing. Due to this, under some pressure, he had to resign from his post. After his resignation shortly before the budget in January 1987, Rajiv Gandhi presented the budget while retaining the Finance Ministry.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the death anniversary today, Monday (December 15, 2025). In a program organized in Lucknow, CM Yogi said that the present form of India is the contribution of Sardar Patel. He held Jawaharlal Nehru responsible for the Kashmir dispute.

CM Yogi said in the program organized on the death anniversary of Sardar Patel in Lucknow that India will always remember the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the architect of the form of India today, this form is his gift.

CM Yogi said that everyone knows that the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Nawab of Junagadh did not want him to join the Republic of India. Because when this country was getting independent, the British rulers gave the freedom to the princely states of this country to remain with Pakistan or the Republic of India or maintain an independent existence. The Chief Minister said that Sardar Patel made Junagadh and Hyderabad a part of the Republic of India through a bloodless revolution. Only due to the wisdom of Sardar Patel, both these princely states became part of the Republic of India. The Nawab of Junagadh and the Nizam of Hyderabad had to flee the country.

Nehru responsible for Kashmir dispute

CM Yogi said that he was confused as to where to include the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, so Jawaharlal Nehru took it into his hands. Nehru made Jammu and Kashmir so controversial that it continued to bite India even after independence. The country got militancy and separatism from the same Kashmir because of Pandit Nehru.

Sardar Patel had strongly opposed the partition of India. At the time of independence, 567 princely states were made part of the Republic of India. CM Yogi said that the country is grateful to PM Modi for taking forward the resolution of one head and one symbol in one country by abolishing Article 370 in Kashmir and making Kashmir a part of the Republic of India.

It was the misfortune of the country that when the country was about to receive the leadership of Sardar Patel, his physical leadership was separated from us on 15 December 1950 but his memories became a new inspiration for all of us.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said during the debate on Vande Mataram in Parliament that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in office for almost the same amount of time that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru spent in jail during the freedom struggle. Priyanka made this counterattack for repeatedly criticizing Nehru.

He said that the Prime Minister has been the Prime Minister for 12 years, Jawaharlal Nehru had spent almost the same amount of time in jail for the independence of this country. Then he remained Prime Minister for 17 years. You speak ill of him a lot, but if he had not started ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) you would not have Mangalyaan.

‘Nehru died serving the country’

He said that if he had not started DRDO, Tejas would not have happened, if he had not started IIT and IIM, we would not have been ahead in IT, if he had not started AIIMS, how would we have faced a challenge like Corona? The Congress MP said, ‘Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru lived for the country and died serving the country.’

‘Nehru spent 9 years in jail’

Nehru went to jail 9 times during the freedom struggle. He spent 9 years in jail. He advised to make a list of insults to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He said whether it is 999 or 9999, make a list and then we can decide the time. Like we are debating on Vande Mataram for 10 hours. We are ready to debate this for as long as you want. We should use the precious time of Parliament for the work for which people have elected us. Once we have a good debate, let’s close this chapter forever.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘The country will listen to the complaints, what did Indira ji do, what did Rajiv ji do, what is dynasty politics, what were the mistakes of Nehru. Let’s talk about them and end it there. Then we can talk about unemployment and inflation.

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi had termed the entire discussion of Vande Mataram as politically motivated and said that there are assembly elections in Bengal next year. That is why the government is discussing Vande Mataram.

Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Monday (8 December 2025) accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of giving political color to the discussion on Vande Mataram and said that no matter how hard the Prime Minister and the people of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) try, they cannot tarnish the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. While participating in the discussion on Vande Mataram in the House, he also said, ‘BJP’s political ancestors had no contribution in the freedom struggle.’ Gogoi claimed that Congress was the first to chant Vande Mataram.

The Congress MP said, ‘I listened to the Prime Minister’s speech carefully. He had two objectives. His first objective was to try to convey that your (ruling party) political ancestors were fighting against the British. His second objective was to give a political color to this discussion. Gogoi said that the Prime Minister repeatedly mentions Congress and Nehru in every statement.

‘Taken name of former PM Nehru 14 times and Congress 50 times’

Gogoi said that earlier during the discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the House, Prime Minister Modi took the name of Nehru 14 times and the name of Congress 50 times. He said, ‘No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to put even a single black mark on his contribution.’ Referring to the historical perspective, the Congress leader said, ‘The Muslim League wanted to say that the entire Vande Mataram should be boycotted and at that time Maulana Abul Kalam Azad himself had said that he had no objection to Vande Mataram.’ He said, ‘Congress decided in one of its sessions that wherever any event is held, we will sing Vande Mataram.’ Gogoi said, ‘It was opposed by the Muslim League and the Hindu Mahasabha and the Congress was criticized.’ He claimed that BJP has neither understood Bengal nor this nation.

Did PM Modi say this in Parliament on Nehru?

Prime Minister Modi claimed in the Lok Sabha on Monday that Vande Mataram was torn into pieces under the pressure of the Muslim League when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Congress President. Modi also said, “Congress bowed down on the partition of Vande Mataram, hence one day it had to bow down for the partition of India.” While starting the “discussion on the occasion of completion of 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram” in the House, Modi cited the Emergency imposed in the country in 1975 and said that when the national song completed 100 years, then the country was caught in the chains of Emergency. It happened and the Constitution was strangled.
