Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the death anniversary today, Monday (December 15, 2025). In a program organized in Lucknow, CM Yogi said that the present form of India is the contribution of Sardar Patel. He held Jawaharlal Nehru responsible for the Kashmir dispute.

CM Yogi said in the program organized on the death anniversary of Sardar Patel in Lucknow that India will always remember the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the architect of the form of India today, this form is his gift.

CM Yogi said that everyone knows that the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Nawab of Junagadh did not want him to join the Republic of India. Because when this country was getting independent, the British rulers gave the freedom to the princely states of this country to remain with Pakistan or the Republic of India or maintain an independent existence. The Chief Minister said that Sardar Patel made Junagadh and Hyderabad a part of the Republic of India through a bloodless revolution. Only due to the wisdom of Sardar Patel, both these princely states became part of the Republic of India. The Nawab of Junagadh and the Nizam of Hyderabad had to flee the country.

Nehru responsible for Kashmir dispute

CM Yogi said that he was confused as to where to include the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, so Jawaharlal Nehru took it into his hands. Nehru made Jammu and Kashmir so controversial that it continued to bite India even after independence. The country got militancy and separatism from the same Kashmir because of Pandit Nehru.

Sardar Patel had strongly opposed the partition of India. At the time of independence, 567 princely states were made part of the Republic of India. CM Yogi said that the country is grateful to PM Modi for taking forward the resolution of one head and one symbol in one country by abolishing Article 370 in Kashmir and making Kashmir a part of the Republic of India.

It was the misfortune of the country that when the country was about to receive the leadership of Sardar Patel, his physical leadership was separated from us on 15 December 1950 but his memories became a new inspiration for all of us.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said during the debate on Vande Mataram in Parliament that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in office for almost the same amount of time that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru spent in jail during the freedom struggle. Priyanka made this counterattack for repeatedly criticizing Nehru.

He said that the Prime Minister has been the Prime Minister for 12 years, Jawaharlal Nehru had spent almost the same amount of time in jail for the independence of this country. Then he remained Prime Minister for 17 years. You speak ill of him a lot, but if he had not started ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) you would not have Mangalyaan.

‘Nehru died serving the country’

He said that if he had not started DRDO, Tejas would not have happened, if he had not started IIT and IIM, we would not have been ahead in IT, if he had not started AIIMS, how would we have faced a challenge like Corona? The Congress MP said, ‘Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru lived for the country and died serving the country.’

‘Nehru spent 9 years in jail’

Nehru went to jail 9 times during the freedom struggle. He spent 9 years in jail. He advised to make a list of insults to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He said whether it is 999 or 9999, make a list and then we can decide the time. Like we are debating on Vande Mataram for 10 hours. We are ready to debate this for as long as you want. We should use the precious time of Parliament for the work for which people have elected us. Once we have a good debate, let’s close this chapter forever.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘The country will listen to the complaints, what did Indira ji do, what did Rajiv ji do, what is dynasty politics, what were the mistakes of Nehru. Let’s talk about them and end it there. Then we can talk about unemployment and inflation.

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi had termed the entire discussion of Vande Mataram as politically motivated and said that there are assembly elections in Bengal next year. That is why the government is discussing Vande Mataram.

Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Monday (8 December 2025) accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of giving political color to the discussion on Vande Mataram and said that no matter how hard the Prime Minister and the people of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) try, they cannot tarnish the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. While participating in the discussion on Vande Mataram in the House, he also said, ‘BJP’s political ancestors had no contribution in the freedom struggle.’ Gogoi claimed that Congress was the first to chant Vande Mataram.

The Congress MP said, ‘I listened to the Prime Minister’s speech carefully. He had two objectives. His first objective was to try to convey that your (ruling party) political ancestors were fighting against the British. His second objective was to give a political color to this discussion. Gogoi said that the Prime Minister repeatedly mentions Congress and Nehru in every statement.

‘Taken name of former PM Nehru 14 times and Congress 50 times’

Gogoi said that earlier during the discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the House, Prime Minister Modi took the name of Nehru 14 times and the name of Congress 50 times. He said, ‘No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to put even a single black mark on his contribution.’ Referring to the historical perspective, the Congress leader said, ‘The Muslim League wanted to say that the entire Vande Mataram should be boycotted and at that time Maulana Abul Kalam Azad himself had said that he had no objection to Vande Mataram.’ He said, ‘Congress decided in one of its sessions that wherever any event is held, we will sing Vande Mataram.’ Gogoi said, ‘It was opposed by the Muslim League and the Hindu Mahasabha and the Congress was criticized.’ He claimed that BJP has neither understood Bengal nor this nation.

Did PM Modi say this in Parliament on Nehru?

Prime Minister Modi claimed in the Lok Sabha on Monday that Vande Mataram was torn into pieces under the pressure of the Muslim League when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Congress President. Modi also said, “Congress bowed down on the partition of Vande Mataram, hence one day it had to bow down for the partition of India.” While starting the “discussion on the occasion of completion of 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram” in the House, Modi cited the Emergency imposed in the country in 1975 and said that when the national song completed 100 years, then the country was caught in the chains of Emergency. It happened and the Constitution was strangled.

Just hours before the year-long celebration of 150 years of Vande Mataram started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a big dispute broke out between BJP and Congress over this song. BJP seriously accused Congress of presenting Vande Mataram in a ‘historical distortion’.

What allegations did BJP make?
BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan said that in 1937, under the chairmanship of Pandit Nehru, Congress had adopted a shorter version of Vande Mataram and deliberately removed the lines in which Goddess Durga was praised. He also said that Vande Mataram was the voice of unity and patriotism of the country, but Congress made a historical mistake by linking it with religion.

New controversy citing Nehru’s letter
Kesavan referred to a letter written by Nehru to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in 1937 and said that Nehru had described the background of Vande Mataram as ‘disturbing’ for the Muslim community. He said Nehru had called the song ‘not suitable’ as a national anthem and described the association with the goddess as ‘absurd’. According to Kesavan, this was a historical mistake that weakened its national symbolic importance.

BJP targets Rahul Gandhi on the pretext of Nehru
Kesavan also alleged that Nehru’s ‘anti-Hindu mentality’ is being repeated in Rahul Gandhi’s statements today. He said that Rahul Gandhi had recently hurt the sentiments of crores of devotees by calling Chhath Puja a ‘drama’.

Congress’s counterattack: RSS-BJP do not sing Vande Mataram themselves
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hit back and said that those who today call themselves protectors of nationalism, i.e. RSS and BJP, never sang Vande Mataram or Jana Gana Mana in their branches and offices. Kharge said that these organizations only sing the song ‘Namaste Sada Vatsale’, which is a praise of the organization and not of the country.

Kharge’s sharp attack on RSS
Kharge said that RSS had supported the British during the independence movement and did not even hoist the national flag for 52 years. He alleged that the RSS insulted the Indian Constitution, burnt the effigies of Gandhiji and Ambedkar, and that Sardar Patel had also linked the RSS to Gandhiji’s assassination.

PM Modi starts national celebration series of 150 years of Vande Mataram
Amidst these political allegations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the year-long national celebration of 150 years of Vande Mataram at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. He also released a commemorative postage stamp and coin on this occasion. This event will run from 7 November 2025 to 7 November 2026 and will be dedicated to this song that inspires India’s independence and unity.

In such a situation, today let us tell you the reason behind why the Constitution of India was implemented only on 26 January.

Why was the country’s Constitution implemented only on 26 January?

In fact, 26 January 1930 was a very special day in the history of the Indian independence movement. At that time in 1929 Lahore session, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru The Congress, under the chairmanship of Dominion If statehood is not given, India will declare itself complete independence. After this, on 26 January 1930, Independence Day was celebrated for the first time in the entire country and the tricolor was hoisted everywhere. This day came to be considered a symbol of the fight for freedom for Indians. Therefore, when India became independent in 1947 and the process of making the Indian Constitution was completed, India’s Constitution It was decided to implement the date of 26th January, so that 26th January Day Always remain intact in history.

when india became Ganraj

On January 26, 1950, India’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad hoisted the flag with a 21-gun salute and declared India a full-fledged republic. At this moment the system of public rule i.e. Gana was established in India. Which means that the country is not run by a king or emperor but by a government elected by the people.

What is the importance of Republic Day?

Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26 January. nationwide It is celebrated as the festival of democracy.

From India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all the big leaders contested elections from two seats simultaneously. There are many reasons for this, including the fear of losing the elections and the dominance of the party. Not only this, there is also a law regarding this in the Constitution. Now the news of Tejashwi Yadav contesting on two seats in Bihar Assembly elections is also strong.

So let us understand in ABP Explainer why big leaders contest elections together on two seats, what is the strategy of elections on two seats and what are its advantages and disadvantages…

Question 1- What is the law for contesting elections on multiple seats simultaneously in India?
answer- Under Section 33(7) of the Representation of the People Act 1951, a candidate can contest from two seats simultaneously in a Lok Sabha or Assembly election. If he wins both the seats, he has to vacate one seat in 14 days. If any candidate does not do this then both the seats are considered vacant under Section 70. In by-elections the party has to field candidates again, which is sometimes risky.

Election Commission of India i.e. ECI told the Supreme Court in 2018 that this rule should be changed to limit it to one seat, so that wastage of resources and voter disappointment is reduced.

Question 2- When did the practice of contesting elections from two seats simultaneously start and which leaders have done this?
answer- This practice started with the first Lok Sabha elections of India in 1951-52. Jawaharlal Nehru presented the first example of this.

In 1952, Vishnu Ghanshyam Deshpande had won by contesting elections simultaneously from Guna and Gwalior in Central India. He was the General Secretary of All India Hindu Mahasabha. Deshpande was the first leader who won by contesting elections on two seats simultaneously. He kept Guna seat with himself and left Gwalior seat.

In 1971, Indira Gandhi also contested elections from two seats simultaneously – Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh) and Medak (Andhra Pradesh) and won both the seats. Indira Gandhi kept Medak for herself and by-election was held in Rae Bareli, in which Arun Nehru won.

In 1996, Atal Bihari Vajpayee also contested elections from two seats. He won from both Gwalior and Bhopal seats of Madhya Pradesh. He left Bhopal seat by keeping Gwalior. By-elections were held in Bhopal, in which BJP lost.

In 2004, Sonia Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) and Bellary (Karnataka) and won both the seats. She retained Amethi and by-elections were held in Bellary, in which Congress lost.

In 2014, Narendra Modi also gambled on two seats. He won the seats of Vadodara in Gujarat and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi kept the Varanasi seat and by-elections were held in Vadodara, in which BJP’s Ranjanben Dhananjay won.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi also contested from two seats – Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) and Wayanad (Kerala). He won from Wayanad and lost from Amethi.

Akhilesh Yadav also contested from two seats (Kannauj and Mainpuri) in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. They won both the seats. He kept Mainpuri seat and left Kannauj seat. A by-election was held on this, where wife Dimple Yadav won.

Now Tejashwi Yadav can also contest from two seats in Bihar Assembly elections. One could be Raghopur and the other Phulparas.

Question 3- Why do big leaders contest elections on more than one seat in Indian politics?
answer- According to senior journalist and political expert Harshvardhan Tripathi, there are two big reasons for this…

Strengthening your and your party’s image: By contesting elections on two seats, leaders strengthen their own and the party’s image. This increases their popularity and influence of the party, strengthens the vote bank and regional base. Like in 2014, PM Modi gave a boost to BJP in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh by fighting from Vadodara and Varanasi.

Fear of losing elections: Leaders fear that if they lose on one seat, they can secure a place in Parliament or Assembly by winning from another seat. This way they are not thrown out of the House. For a politician, it is a real fight to remain in the House. Like in 2019, Rahul Gandhi lost Amethi, but won from Wayanad.

Question 4- What are the benefits of contesting elections on more than one seat?
answer- According to Harshvardhan Tripathi, it has 3 major benefits…

Worker Mobilization: If a big leader contests elections on more than one seat, then the workers of that area get mobilized, that is, their enthusiasm increases and they become fully active in the elections. This also improves the image of the leader, because he reaches that area with his entire army.

Improving electoral environment: Contesting elections on two seats improves the electoral environment, that is, the environment becomes in favor of that leader. This also shows the strength of the leader that he campaigns on two seats simultaneously and tries his best to win. This creates its positive effect.

Advantages of political party: This also benefits the party, because his name and popularity attracts votes in many areas, which gives support to other candidates of the party. With a big leader contesting elections, the party’s publicity increases in that area and the electoral environment becomes favorable for it. For example, in 2004, Sonia Gandhi helped Congress increase its campaign in Karnataka by contesting elections from Bellary.

Question 5- Are there any disadvantages of contesting elections on more than one seat?
answer- According to political expert Rashid Kidwai, there are 3 major disadvantages of this practice…

By-election expenses: By-election is held when one seat is left, the expenditure of which runs into crores. According to ECI, more than Rs 50 crore was spent on such by-elections from 2004 to 2018.

Broken trust of voters: When a leader leaves a seat, the voters of that area are disappointed. Like in 2004, Bellary voters made Sonia Gandhi victorious, but BJP won the by-election after she left the seat.

Weapon of opposition: Opposition parties promote it by calling it ‘greed’ or ‘cheating’. Like in 2019, BJP had raised questions on Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad-Amethi. BJP had said about Rahul Gandhi that he is betraying the public by contesting elections from two seats.

Question 6- Will this practice end in the coming time?
answer- Rashid Kidwai says, ‘The law of contesting elections from two seats simultaneously is in the Constitution, due to which the Constitution will have to be amended to change it. This will happen after the consensus of the parties and everyone’s consent. There is no problem or flaw in contesting elections from two seats simultaneously. This system is not going to harm anyone. However, the money spent in this is definitely a problem. But black money is useful for the parties.

At the same time, Harshvardhan Tripathi believes, ‘This practice should end. This practice is a waste of time and money. If a leader wins both the seats and leaves one seat, then it becomes the responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct elections on it. This upsets the public and also breaks their trust.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah is called Qaid-e-Azam in Pakistan. He has an important role in making Pakistan a separate country. Mohammad Ali Jinnah is considered the founder of Pakistan. During independence, Jinnah had talked about creating a separate country on the basis of religion, hence Pakistan was built. Today we take you about Mohammad Ali Jinnah and the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, knows what Jawaharlal Nehru said at the time of Jinnah’s death.

When did Jinnah die?

Pakistan was formed on 14 August 1947 when India was divided into two parts and a new nation was born. Mohammad Ali Jinnah became the first Governor General of Pakistan but he died very soon. Jinnah died in Karachi on 11 September 1948, about a year after Pakistan’s formation. Jinnah was seriously ill at that time. He was suffering from TB disease, but he kept his illness secret. His death gave a deep blow to Pakistan.

Jawaharlal Nehru expressed condolences

This was the period when the tragedy of Partition of India and Pakistan gave deep wounds to both countries. Jinnah thought of creating a Muslim country. Jawaharlal Nehru became his theoretical enemy. While Nehru and Jinnah were opposed to each other, both of them were also a very popular leader of their country. Both did not consider each other’s way according to themselves. Both were very different personalities. The news of Jinnah’s death stunned not only Pakistan, but also India. At that time, the tension between India and Pakistan was at its peak, yet Nehru expressed deep condolences on Jinnah’s death.

What did Nehru say?

On this sad incident, India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said, ‘Mohammad Ali Jinnah was an extraordinary personality. There were deep differences between his thoughts and us, but no one can deny his commitment and leadership. There is no bitterness for Jinnah in my mind, it is deeply sad for what happened ‘.
