The responsibility of conducting all these major examinations rests with one organization, whose name is National Testing Agency (NTA). In the last few years, NTA has been in the news for many reasons. In such a situation, it is important to know what this institution is and what is its role in the education system of the country.

What is NTA and how did it start?

National Testing Agency i.e. NTA was established by the Central Government in the year 2017. Its objective was to conduct the country’s major entrance examinations under a professional and transparent system. Earlier, different institutions used to conduct different examinations. This showed a lack of uniformity in the examination system. For this reason, it was decided to create an agency that could focus only on the conduct of examinations.

Today NTA conducts many important entrance and eligibility examinations of the country. The most prominent among them are:

Not just exams, there are many other responsibilities too

Often people think that the job of NTA is only to conduct examinations, but its responsibilities are much bigger than this. It is also the responsibility of this organization to select the examination centres, handle the technical arrangements, ensure the security of the question papers, monitor the examination process and release the results. Apart from this, NTA also continuously works on new technologies to improve the examination system.

Who heads NTA?

At present the Chairperson of NTA is Pradeep Kumar Joshi. He has been the former Chairman of Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC and has long experience in the field of education and examination administration. The Director General of NTA is Abhishek Singh, who is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. He is responsible for the day-to-day functioning and administrative decisions of the agency.

Unique combination of academics and administration

A special thing about NTA is that both education sector experts and administrative officers work together in it. The governing body of the institution consists of academicians, while the administrative system remains in the hands of senior officials. This is why NTA is seen as a balanced model of education and administration.

Has also been associated with controversies

After the controversies regarding NEET and UGC NET in the year 2024, NTA became the subject of national debate. Many questions were raised regarding the transparency and security of the examination. After this, many steps were taken towards strengthening the examination system. However, despite these challenges, NTA is still included among the most important examination agencies of the country.

An important update has come out for lakhs of students who dream of studying engineering. The city slip can be released soon before the Session 2 examination of JEE Main 2026. This slip tells the students in advance in which city their examination center will be. This makes it easier for students to plan their travel and stay. NTA, the exam conducting agency, will release this slip on the official website, from where candidates can download it.

When will JEE Main Session 2 exam be held?

According to the examination calendar released by NTA, the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 examination will be conducted from April 2 to April 9, 2026. This examination will be held at many examination centers set up in different cities of the country. Like every year, this time too lakhs of students are going to appear in this examination. Therefore, candidates are advised to keep an eye on the official website for every update related to the examination.

When will the city slip be released?

NTA releases the city slip about 10 to 15 days before the exam. Looking at the pattern of previous years, it is believed that this slip may be issued between March 15 and March 21, 2026. In this slip, only the city of the examination is told to the candidates, whereas the complete address of the examination center is given in the admit card.

When will JEE Main Admit Card come?

After the issuance of city slip, the next required document is the admit card. Without the admit card, no candidate is allowed to enter the examination centre. Usually the admit card is released about three days before the examination. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the admit card of JEE Main Session 2 can be issued in the last week of March.

Is city slip necessary?

The main purpose of the city slip is to inform the candidates about the examination city in advance. This helps students coming from far-flung cities to plan their travel. Many times students have to go to another state or city for the examination, hence this slip proves to be very useful for them.

The entrance exam of the engineering field JEE Main 2025 Session 2 is going to start from April 2. This exam will run till 9 April 2025, in which millions of students will appear to realize their dreams. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued important guidelines regarding the examination. Following which will be necessary for all candidates. Candidates can download their admit card from jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Exam schedule and center details
BE/B.Tech Paper 1 of JEE Main 2025 Session 2 will be held at 284 centers and 15 foreign centers in India.
Morning shift: 9 am to 12 noon
Afternoon shift: From 3 pm to 6 pm

Change in exam pattern
NTA has changed the examination pattern this time. There will now be no alternative questions in section B now. It will be necessary to answer all 5 questions. In such a situation, students have to make good preparations to answer every question.

Adopt these strategies

There is a cut of 1 digit on the wrong answer in JEE Main Examination. That is why if you do not know the correct answer to a question, then it would be better to leave it. Avoid guessing can cut more points. If there is doubt about any option, then leaving the question will be more safe.

These are necessary guidelines

• It will be mandatory to reach at least 1 hour before the examination. No one will get admission after the gate is closed.
• Admit card and Aadhaar card will be required for admission to the examination center.
• At the examination center, students will have to submit self-declaration letters, in which passport size photo and left hand thumb mark.
• In the examination hall, candidates will be given pen/pencil and rough sheet, on which it will be necessary to write name and roll number. This sheet will have to be returned after the examination is over.
• Students of Divyang category will have to bring Divyang Certificate and ID proof.
