There is an atmosphere of happiness in the homes of thousands of students as soon as the results of JEE Advanced 2026, which is counted among the toughest entrance examinations in the country, are out. After months of hard work, coaching, mock tests and continuous study, 56,880 students have cleared the JEE Advanced hurdle. But after passing the exam, the real battle begins, where many students are competing for every seat.

This year more than 17 lakh students participated in JEE Main. This is considered to be the biggest figure till date. Of these, only about 2.5 lakh students got a chance to appear for JEE Advanced. After this, about 1.80 lakh students took the JEE Advanced exam.

Out of these lakhs of candidates, only 56,880 students could pass the examination. After the declaration of JEE Advanced results, all the successful candidates are now eyeing JoSAA counselling. It will be decided here which student will get which IIT and which branch.

How many seats are there?

Altogether, about 18 thousand seats are available in the 23 IITs of the country. These include B.Tech, dual degree and other engineering courses. On the other hand, the number of students passing JEE Advanced is approximately 57 thousand. If we look at the figures, on an average more than three candidates are claiming for one seat. This is the reason that even after qualifying, it is not possible for every student to get a seat in IIT.

Competition more tough in top IITs

Almost every student aspires to get admission in institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur. Whereas branches like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are in highest demand.

Which IITs have the most seats?

IIT Kharagpur is considered to be at the forefront in terms of number of seats. After this come the names of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee. There are more seats in these institutes, but here also the demand remains very high.

Girls also showed strong presence

This year, more than 10 thousand girl students are among the successful candidates in JEE Advanced. In the last few years, arrangements for special seats have been made to increase the participation of girls in IITs, the positive effect of which is visible.

One mistake in counseling can prove costly

After the result, now the most important stage is counselling. Many times even students with good ranks lose better options due to wrong choice filling or haste.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the result of Paper-2 of JEE Main 2026 Session-2. This result is for the candidates who appeared for B.Arch (Paper 2A) and B.Planning (Paper 2B). Now candidates can download their scorecard by visiting the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. The result link has been activated and application number and date of birth/password will be required for login.

This examination is conducted for admission to architecture and planning courses in the country’s top institutions NITs, SPAs (School of Planning and Architecture) and other government and private institutions. Paper-2 examination was held on 7th April. After this, the provisional answer key was released on 25th April, on which objections were invited till 27th April. The final answer key was released on May 4 and the result was declared today.

In the exam, Meera Krishna RS and Suryathejas S from Kerala have secured 100% marks in Paper 2A (B.Arch.). Gauri Shankar V from Kerala and Sarthak Agarwal from Uttar Pradesh scored 100% marks in Paper 2B (B.Planning).

In the scorecard, candidates are given subject-wise marks, overall percentile score and All India Rank (AIR). NTA has advised that all candidates should carefully check the personal details, marks and rank recorded on their scorecard. This time, 54,953 candidates from India and 270 from abroad had registered for Paper-2. Around 73% attendance was recorded in the examination. The special thing is that about 97% of the candidates completed Aadhaar based authentication.

This time again IIT Bombay has proved that it remains the first choice of students. 9 out of top 10 students and 73 out of top 100 students have chosen IIT Bombay.

First choice of top rankers: IIT-B

Mumbai -based IIT Bombay has once again shown that its craze is more than the rest of the IITs among the students. This year too, 9 out of the top 10 students chose it. Even 179 students out of the top 500 rankers made IIT-B their hideout. The second number was IIT Delhi, which was chosen by 109 top rankers, while IIT Madras was liked by 69 students.

Why is IIT Bombay special?

IIT Bombay has a special demand for computer science branch. A topper student said, “The computer science department here is counted among the best departments in the world. After studying from here, career chances are very high.” Along with this, being located in a city like Mumbai, connections with the industry and networking make it even more special.

Efforts of IIT delhi and IIT Madras

IIT delhi increased its publicity this time for the first time. He held special events in Mumbai and Bangalore under the name ‘Experience IIT-D’, where JEE’s top qualifiers were called and shown campus tour, conversation with faculty and extra-scarcular activities. At the same time, IIT Madras called the top 200 students and their parents their campus and even raised their expenses, so that they could see the merits of the institute closely.

But while taking the final decision, the top rankers again chose IIT-B. Vishal Mishra, an alumni student of IIT, says, “IIT Bombay’s name has become a brand itself. People think that if most rankers are choosing it, then there will be something special in it.”

The result of JEE Advanced 2025 organized for admission to the top engineering institutions in the country has been released today. This year this examination was conducted by IIT Kanpur and the candidates can check their results on the official website jeeadv.ac.in.

The examination was of a total of 360 marks, which included two papers-both Paper-1 and Paper-2 were 180–180 marks. This time a total of more than 1.87 lakh students had registered. Interestingly, this time the cutoff has seen a decline of about 30%. While last year’s cutoff was 109, this time it has come down to only 76.

Now what next?

With the release of the result, now the process of Josaa Counseling 2025 will start. This process will run in six phases from June 3 to July 28. Through this counseling, students will get admission in 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs and 47 other government institutions across the country. The first phase of counseling seat allotment list will come on 14 June.

Josaa counseling starts from June 3

To join the counseling, students have to register by visiting Josaa website from June 3 to June 12 at 5 pm and fill the college and branch of their choice.

The first round seat allotment list will be released on 14 June. Students who will get a seat, will have to report seat accepting fees by reporting online by June 19.

After this there will be a new round every week

2nd round: 21 June

3rd round: 28 June

4th round: 4 July

5th round: 10 July

6th and last round: 16 July

Daughters will get 20% reservation

A special initiative has been taken this year. In IIT and NIT, 20 percent additional seats have been kept for daughters, so that girls can get more opportunities in the top engineering institutions. The good thing is that there has been no cut in general or reserved seats from these seats.
