Amid rising tensions with India, Pakistan on Sunday (November 16) conducted a major military exercise named ‘Raad-ul-Fatah’ at Tilla firing range in Jhelum, Punjab province. This drill was conducted at a distance of just 190 kilometers from the Indian border. Units of Pakistan Army’s 1st Corps, Aviation Corps, 2nd Artillery Division and 6th Armored Division took part in the exercise.

During this drill, the Second Artillery Division demonstrated the Fatah-1 and Fatah-2 missile systems. Firing of SH-15 artillery gun was also done. Rewali Squad of Pakistan’s Aviation Wing showed its capability by live firing from Cobra and Z-10 ME attack helicopters.

Show of strength before the king of Jordan

Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir participated in this military exercise. To impress the King of Jordan, Pakistan also organized the flight of JF-17 fighter jet. The 6th Division also fired from its 6MBT-Hyder tank, while Pakistan also tested suicide drones developed with the help of China and 7 and 10 inch FPV drones.

Demonstration of armed quadcopter with 10 KM range

NRTC (National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation) chief Brigadier Amjat Shabbir also showed a demo of a quadcopter fitted with an assault rifle developed in Pakistan to the King of Jordan. This drone can fly at a range of 10 km and at a height of 3 km.

What did Field Marshal Asim Munir say?

After the exercise, Field Marshal Asim Munir gave an off-record briefing to the journalists. According to sources, he made sharp remarks on India and said that if India attacked, Pakistan would respond.

Pakistan had done a big military exercise

Indian Army sources say that Pakistan had conducted a major military exercise in Kharian only a few days ago. Now the purpose of the drill again in Jhelum’s Tilla firing range seems to be an attempt to sell its weapons to Jordan. Chengdu J-10 is a modern single-engine multirole fighter aircraft developed by China. It has been named Vigorous Dragon. Its delta wing and canard design gives it greater speed and maneuverability. This aircraft can fly up to a maximum speed of Mach 1.8. That means it is almost twice as fast as the speed of sound. The J-10 is developed by Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) and is specifically designed for air supremacy and ground attacks. Pakistan has recently purchased these aircraft from China and currently 20 J-10 fighter jets are active in Pakistan Air Force (PAF). This jet has the ability to provide some balance to Pakistan compared to India’s Rafale aircraft.

JF-17 Thunder is the backbone of Pakistan Air Force

Talking about the power of Pakistani Air Force, the most important name is JF-17 Thunder. It is a fourth-generation light, single-engine multirole fighter jet, jointly developed by China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) and Pakistan’s Aeronautical Complex (PAC). The JF-17 is said to be an example of cheap, but deadly technology. This aircraft is equally capable of air-to-air, air-to-ground and anti-ship missions. Pakistan has started assembling it in its domestic industry and so far 156 of its aircraft are in active service.

Block-III, the modern version of JF-17, has added AESA radar, electronic warfare system and modern missile capability, making it at par with any modern fighter aircraft.

F-16 Fighting Falcon, Pakistan’s American weapon

F-16 Fighting Falcon is one of the most reliable aircraft of Pakistan Air Force. It is a supersonic multirole fighter jet made by American company Lockheed Martin. It was originally designed as an air superiority fighter, renowned for its accuracy and speed in dogfights. The F-16 has a maximum speed of more than Mach 2 and is equipped with modern weapons such as the AIM-120 AMRAAM missile. More than 4,600 F-16s have been built worldwide since 1976. Pakistan currently has 75 active F-16 aircraft, which are its first line force in any possible war or border conflict.

Mirage III The vintage glow of French technology

The Mirage III is one of the oldest, but very reliable, aircraft that Pakistan has. It was developed by the famous French company Dassault Aviation. It is a single-engine supersonic fighter jet, which was the main military force of Pakistan in the 1960s and 70s. At one time Pakistan had 145 Mirage III, but now their number has come down to 49. Although this aircraft is old, Pakistan is still modifying it to use it in surveillance and attack missions under the Mirage ROSE project.

Mirage 5 bomber dragon made for attack

The Mirage 5 is an improved version of the Mirage III, also built by Dassault Aviation. The aircraft was developed specifically for ground-attack missions and featured greater fuel capacity and improved radar systems. Pakistan has upgraded Mirage 5 aircraft several times and they are still used in its old missions. Currently 37 Mirage 5 jets are active in the Pakistani Air Force. These are mainly used for bombing and night attacks.

Chengdu J-7 Classic Warrior

Chengdu J-7 is a Chinese fighter aircraft, which is based on the MiG-21 model of the Soviet Union. It is light, fast and designed for short-range aerial combat. J-7 is equipped with infrared homing air-to-air missiles, which makes it lethal in limited ranges. Although it is technically old, Pakistan still uses it in limited missions. Currently Pakistani Air Force has 53 J-7 aircraft.

India’s indigenous fighter jet hal Tejas and Pakistan-China joint project JF-17 Thunders are often a topic of discussion compared to. Tejas was designed by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and has been built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). It is the smallest and lightened multirol fighter aircraft in the supersonic category. Its first flight took place in 2001 and was included in the Indian Air Force in 2015.

Tejas’ service sealing ranges from 50,000 to 56,758 feet and includes air missiles such as weapons, derby, python-5, asraam and R-73, air missiles, air-by-surface weapons and 23 mm GSH-23 autochanon. Tejas MK2 has a firepower ranging from 3,000 to 3,500 km while its fighter capacity is about 1,500 km. Talking about the safety record, it is very good and only one accident occurred by March 2024, in which the pilot survived safely.

What is the specialty of JF-17?

The first flight of JF-17 Thunder developed towards Pakistan and China took place in 2003 and in 2007 it was inducted into the Pakistani Air Force. Its purpose was to change old aircraft like mirage and F-7P. JF-17’s service sealing is 50,000 feet and includes air-by-air missiles, surface attack weapons, anti-ship missiles, bombs and 23 mm GSH-23-2 twin barrel guns. Its maximum takeoff weighs 13,500 kg and its range with a drop tank goes up to 3,482 km, but its safety record is weak. Since 2011, there have been at least 4 accidents in which the pilots have also lost their lives.

Tejas technically more modern

If you compare both aircraft, Tejas is technically more modern. Its range and height is almost equal to JF-17 but Tejas gains due to light design and modern weapon systems. Tejas is much better than JF-17 in security records. The biggest difference is that China did not include JF-17 in its Air Force, which shows its weakness.
