Jharkhand Electricity Bill News: The Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) announced a 6.34 percent increase in electricity rates in the state on Wednesday (April 30). Under the new rates, domestic consumers in rural areas will now have to pay Rs 6.70 per unit electricity bill instead of Rs 6.30. Similarly, urban consumers will have to pay Rs 6.85 per unit instead of Rs 6.65. This decision of the state government has shocked electricity consumers.

Mahendra Prasad, member of Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission JSERC, said that the revised rate will be considered applicable from May 1, 2025. The rural electricity rate has been increased by 40 paise and 20 paise in urban rate. In the summer season, there is an atmosphere of disappointment among the consumers of the state to increase in electricity rates.

3 percent discount in energy charge on installing smart meters

JSERC has ordered consumers to ensure 23 hours of power supply to consumers for recovery of full fixed charge in the electricity bill and 21 hours to LT category consumers. Consumers adopting prepaid smart meters will get 3 percent discount in energy charge.
