South Africa Shooting: Unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at a bar (tavern) on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa, in the early hours of Sunday. 9 people died in this attack, while 10 others were injured. Police said that this is the second such major shooting incident in the country this month.

The incident took place in the Bakersdal area, about 40 kilometers south-west of Johannesburg, which is a gold mining area. The attack took place around 1 am (2300 GMT). Police initially put the death toll at 10, but later revised it to 9.

Police issued statement

According to the police statement, about a dozen attackers traveling in two vehicles opened fire on the people present in the tavern and continued firing randomly while fleeing the scene of the incident. The dead also included a driver of an online car-hailing service, who was present outside the bar. Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana gave this information to SABC TV. Police said that they have started searching for the attackers.

A similar attack had happened earlier also

Earlier on December 6, gunmen attacked a hostel in Saulsville township near the capital Pretoria, killing 12 people, including a three-year-old child. According to the police, that place was a den for selling liquor illegally. Many people in South Africa keep licensed weapons for personal protection, but despite strict laws, the number of illegal weapons in the country is much higher.

Cases of violence are continuously increasing

Many people in South Africa keep licensed weapons for personal protection, but despite strict laws, the number of illegal weapons in the country is much higher. According to police data, an average of 63 people were murdered every day between April and September. Most of these deaths occurred due to mutual disputes, while looting and gang violence were also major reasons. In one of the most horrific incidents in recent years, 18 relatives were shot dead in a rural home in the country’s Eastern Cape province in September 2024.

A horrific incident of firing has come to light in South Africa. The death toll in this incident has increased to 11. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that 11 people were killed and 14 injured in a deadly shooting in Pretoria on Saturday morning.

11 killed, so many injured in the incident
Giving information about the shooting that took place at the Soulsville Hostel in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria on Saturday morning, the SAPS said, “25 people were shot, 11 were confirmed dead, 14 people survived and all are hospitalised.

Police busy searching for suspects
The South African Police Service has started searching for three unknown suspects. Among those killed are three minors, including a 3 and 12 year old boy and a 16 year old girl. “The rest who died are adults.”

The incident occurred around 4:15 am
According to local media, the incident occurred just after 4:15 am, but police were alerted around 6 am. “We immediately dispatched our resources, including forensics and ballistics experts, who were already on the scene. Our detectives and the Serious and Violent Crime Unit are gathering information as to what may have led to this shooting,” local media outlet Independent Online quoted SAPS national spokeswoman Brigadier Ethelenda Matthey as saying.

3 gunmen opened fire
Citing Matthey’s statement, IOL reported that at least three unidentified gunmen entered the hostel, where some people were drinking, and suddenly opened fire.

what the officials told
The SAPS spokesperson also spoke about the huge problems being caused by illegal and unlicensed liquor shops. “Between April and September this year, we closed 11,975 unlicensed liquor shops across the country and arrested more than 18,676 people selling liquor illegally,” the IOL quoted the official as saying.

7 people died in the firing last month
Last month, seven people were killed in a mass shooting in Cape Town, South Africa. The incident happened on Road R53 in Philippi East, a suburb in the Cape Flats area of Cape Town. In the incident, seven people aged between 20 to 30 years were shot dead.

After Johannesburg, Cape Town has also seen a rise in gun violence and gang-related murders in recent months. Because of this, civil society has warned that the Western Cape province is facing a major crisis.

While hosting the G-20 summit for the first time in Africa, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa admitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the task was more difficult than anticipated. While opening bilateral talks in Johannesburg, he said that perhaps we would have run away.

In his opening remarks at the talks with the Indian delegation, Ramaphosa thanked New Delhi for its support in Pretoria assuming the presidency. Ramaphosa said laughingly, “Thank you for India’s support to South Africa in hosting the G-20. You should have told us it was such a difficult task, we might have run away.” Prime Minister Modi and other representatives present in the room also laughed at this comment.

‘We watched India’s leadership closely’
Ramaphosa said that South Africa has closely watched India’s leadership in 2023. He said, “We have learned a lot from your hosting of the G-20 and your hosting was wonderful. Our hosting is really very short.” Prime Minister Modi immediately replied, “Small is always beautiful.”

In his concluding speech, Ramaphosa said that India, Brazil and Indonesia have laid the foundation for South Africa’s G20 presidency. “We have learned a lot from what Indonesia, India and Brazil have done,” he said. “In many ways, what we are seeing here is based on the foundation established by these three countries in the global South.”

What did Ramaphosa say in his speech
The President further said, “Our agreement on a declaration during this summit reflects the importance of the G-20 as a forum that can facilitate joint action on issues of common concern not only to leaders, but to the people of the world. Moreover, it reaffirms our renewed commitment to multilateral cooperation and our recognition that our shared goals outweigh our differences.”

Ramaphosa thanked all G-20 members and invited guests for their presence and said their commitment has been vital in re-establishing the G-20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

These include the establishment of a global traditional knowledge repository, the Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, the Global Healthcare Response Team, the Countering the Drug and Terrorism Linkage Initiative, the Open Satellite Data Partnership and the Critical Mineral Circulation Initiative.

In the first session organized on development, PM Modi said that these initiatives will help in achieving all-round development.
Countering the drug-terrorism nexus
Apart from this, he also suggested a G-20 initiative to tackle the challenge of drug trafficking and counter the drug-terrorism nexus to stop drugs like fentanyl. Prime Minister Modi said that under this initiative, we can take many measures related to finance, governance and security together. Only then can the economy of drug-terrorism be weakened.

During his address at the G20 summit held for the first time in South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a deep rethinking of the parameters of global development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the G20 has shaped global finance and development for a long time, but the model currently in use has deprived a large population of resources.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday (November 21, 2025), where he is participating in the three-day G-20 summit to be held from November 21 to 23, 2025. During the G-20 summit, PM Modi addressed the session organized on the topic of ‘Inclusive and sustainable economic growth by taking everyone along’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the G-20 summit

PM Modi said, ‘In the last several decades, G-20 has given direction to global finance and global economic development, but due to the parameters of development on which work has been done so far, a large population has been deprived of resources. At the same time, over-exploitation of nature has also been encouraged. Africa is a big victim of this. Today, when Africa is hosting the G-20 Summit for the first time, here we should reconsider the parameters of development.

He said, ‘One way for this lies in the values of Indian civilization and that way is Integral Humanism. That means we have to see human, society and nature as an integrated whole. Only then will harmony between progress and nature be possible.

Many communities preserved their traditional lifestyle – PM Modi

PM Modi said, ‘There are many communities in the world who have preserved their traditional and eco-balanced lifestyle. These traditions not only reflect sustainability, but also reflect cultural knowledge, social unity and deep respect for nature.

He said, ‘India’s proposal is to create a global traditional knowledge repository under the G-20. India’s Indian Knowledge Systems Initiative can become its basis. This global platform will help in transmitting the collective knowledge of humanity to the future generations.

The countries participating in the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa have passed a historic declaration on climate change. Despite America’s protest and boycott on the declaration by the group of G20 countries, unanimous agreement has been reached. This step taken by the G20 group is being described as a departure from tradition, because the leaders of the world included in the G20 passed a joint declaration on climate change in the absence of America.

Actually, America has boycotted the G20 summit held in Johannesburg. America’s diplomatic differences with host South Africa have been cited as the reason behind this. According to Reuters report, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that America has objected to the wording of the joint declaration. However, he stressed that the declaration passed on climate change cannot be renegotiated. This statement given by President Ramaphosa has highlighted the ongoing tension between Washington and Pretoria.

Declaration passed at the beginning of the summit

Delivering his address at the summit, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged the broad consensus for the joint declaration and said, ‘We must accept the declaration at the very beginning of this summit.’ Ramaphosa’s spokesman Vincent Magwenya said the declaration was accepted unusually early in the summit proceedings and that the move was prompted by the overwhelming support it had received.

According to news agency AP, Magwenya said that usually the declaration is accepted at the end of the proceedings, but we felt that we should take the initiative to pass the summit declaration earlier.

South African officials also confirmed that US President Donald Trump had put pressure on Pretoria not to accept the declaration of the G20 leaders in his absence. At the same time, spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said that we have worked all year to accept this manifesto and the last week has also been very strong.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Friday, November 21) left for Johannesburg, South Africa, where he will participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit to be held from 21 to 23 November 2025. This conference is being hosted by South Africa and the special thing is that for the first time the G20 summit is going to be organized in the African continent. Also, this is the fourth consecutive time that the G20 conference is being held in the Global South.

Leaving for a visit on the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister Modi said that this conference is important in many ways. He reminded that under India’s G20 presidency (2023), the African Union was given permanent membership of the G20 and now holding this summit in Africa further strengthens that historic step.

What is the theme of this year’s G20 conference?

The theme of this year’s G20 conference has been kept as ‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability’. This theme carries forward the continuity of the last two summits held in India and Brazil. PM Modi said that he will present India’s vision in the conference based on the thinking of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – One Earth, One Family, One Future.

PM Modi will meet people of Indian origin

During the conference, Prime Minister Modi will also attend the 6th IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Summit. Here strategic cooperation, global challenges, economic partnership and development agenda will be discussed between the three countries.

A large number of people of Indian origin live in South Africa and PM Modi said that he is also eager to meet the Indian community there. This Indian diaspora is one of the largest Indian diaspora groups in the world.

Indian cricket team fast bowler Mohammed Shami is as dangerous bowlers as they are too big. His favorite food is Biryani. For which his love is well known. Recently, former India coach Ravi Shastri shared an anecdote related to Shami and his favorite dish, which has shocked everyone.

This story is mentioned in a video, which was posted by Sony Sports Network. According to Shastri, during the Johannesburg Test against South Africa in January 2018, Shami was seen eating biryani in the lunch break. When the then coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun interrupted Shami, he was so angry that he threw his plate. Later, he converted this anger into his performance in the field and gave India a memorable victory by taking five wickets in the match.

 what was the whole story?

This incident is a tour of South Africa of 2018. The third Test between India and South Africa was being played in Johannesburg. India had already lost this series against South Africa, but the Indian team wanted to conclude the tour with victory.

On the fourth day of the match, South Africa was given a target of 241 runs by the Indian team. At the time of lunch, when Ravi Shastri was passing by the dressing room, he saw that Shami’s plate was full of biryani. In the post video by Sony Sports Network, Ravi Shastri said, & ldquo; When I saw all the biryani in Shami’s plate, I said, what is this eating in lunch? & Rdquo; After this, bowling coach Bharat Arun also jokingly said, & ldquo; Your hunger is over here? & Rdquo;

Mohammed Shami found this very bad. They were enraged and threw the plate aside. He gave up food in anger and got down on the field and turned that anger into a wicket. Shami bowled brilliantly and took 5 wickets for 28 runs in South Africa’s second innings. The South Africa team collapsed for 177 runs. India won this Test by 63 runs.

 Shami received after winning Biryani

After the end of the match, there was a special moment for Shami and for the team. After a brilliant performance in Shami’s match, bowling coach Bharat Arun told Shami, & ldquo; Now eat as much as you want. & Rdquo; Shami laughed and said, & ldquo; always make us angry, then everything goes well. & Rdquo;

Ravi Shastri also said that Shami is one of the few players who know how to use anger in the right direction. He gave the right direction to his anger by taking five wickets in the match.

& nbsp; England are out of tour to England, Fitness became the reason

With this story going viral, a big news is that Mohammed Shami will not be part of the Indian team for the upcoming five Test series against England.
