Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Oman on 17-18 December. Oman will be the last stop of PM Modi’s three-nation tour, which started from Jordan on December 15. PM Modi’s visit to Oman is taking place on the completion of 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman visited India in December 2023. Meanwhile, the luxury life of the Sultan of Oman is also being discussed.

Sultan Haitham became the heir to the throne after Sultan Qaboos.

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman is a wonderful ruler who lives a life combining traditional Omani culture with modern luxury. He is the Sultan and Prime Minister of Oman since 11 January 2020. He came to power as per the will of his cousin Sultan Qaboos bin Said after his death.

Sultan Haitham was born on 11 October 1955 in Muscat. He studied at Pembroke College, Oxford University, and graduated from the Foreign Service Program in 1979. The Al Said dynasty has been ruling Oman for more than 300 years. Sultan Haitham is considered influenced by Western ideology and is less visible in public, but is active in strengthening the country.

Sultan Haitham has only one wife

Sultan is married to Ahad bint Abdullah. Ahad is considered a symbol of women empowerment in Oman. According to royal tradition, the Sultan has only one wife. He has four children, two sons and two daughters. The eldest son is Syed Theyazin bin Haitham, who was made the Crown Prince in 2021. Theyazin has studied at Oxford and has been the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth. He is married to Meyyan bint Shihab Al Saeed.

Sultan living in 200 year old palace

Sultan Haitham has 6 large and traditionally designed palaces in Oman. The most prominent among these is Al Alam Palace, which is 200 years old. It is plain compared to other royal palaces, but is decorated with gold and blue walls. Its cultural importance is very high.

Royal guests staying in the 16th century palace

The Flag Palace was rebuilt as a royal residence in 1972. It is a grand white building with shining marble surfaces. The complex has guest villas with swimming pool, spa and beautiful gardens. The entire palace is surrounded and protected by the 16th century Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali. Big guests like Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, King Charles, the Queen of the Netherlands have stayed here.

At least 9 properties of Sultan abroad

The total value of Sultan’s properties abroad is about 100 million dollars. These include houses in London and Southern England. One is the 14-acre Haselour House in Staffordshire, which has 7 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a 1785 fireplace and the dining room fireplace is made of Columbian marble.

The second property is Wonham Manor, which is worth $35 million. It was purchased in 1980, has an 800 meter long lake and pastures for deer. Former Sultan Qaboos used to spend three days a year here and spent around £750,000 on refurbishing the lake-paths.

155 meter long yacht and 7 government planes

The Sultan has a fleet of royal yachts. The largest is the Al Said yacht, which is 508 feet (155 meters) long and looks like a cruise ship. Its price is around 600 million dollars. It has 26 cabins, a fully equipped medical room (including dental room), several meeting halls, a private theater and a Jacuzzi. The interior decoration of the yacht is of Omani style, which has artefacts of Omani artisans. Another yacht is Al Salamah (or Fulk Al Salamah), which is a support yacht.

Among the planes, there are 7 government planes of Oman Royal Flight. These include 3 Boeing 747 jumbo jets worth about Rs 900 crore, 2 Airbus A320 and one Eurocopter EC225 helicopter. Sultan travels the world in these three private Boeing 747.

Passion for Arabian horses and Rolex watches

There are more than 1000 Arabian horses in the royal stables of Oman. It was started in 1974 by former Sultan Qaboos. Its headquarters is in Seeb, but it also has branches in France and Britain. The Royal Cavalry performed at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Britain.

The Sultan is famous for giving gifts of Rolex watches, which bear the royal dagger symbol of Oman. Former Sultan Qaboos gifted a 25 kg gold artificial model of the coronation chariot to Queen Elizabeth in 2012.

Initiative to reduce oil dependence

Despite immense wealth, Oman’s royal family is known for its simplicity and restraint compared to other Gulf countries (such as Saudi Arabia). Sultan Haitham launched Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on reducing oil dependence and strengthening the economy. He has implemented new laws for freedom of expression and religious freedom. He balances tradition and modernity and is taking the country forward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a strategic foreign visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman. His journey has started from 15th December, which will continue till 18th December. During this time he has completed the journey to Jordan. At present he is present in Ethiopia and after this he will visit Oman. This visit is not limited to just formal diplomatic meetings, but is directly related to trade, investment, defense cooperation and regional stability.

With this foreign tour, a question also arises in the minds of common people that when Indian citizens go to these countries, what is the value of the Indian rupee there and what is their spending power. It is important to understand this aspect in simple language. If we first talk about Jordan, it is considered a reliable ally of India in West Asia. Thousands of Indians are involved in work and business here, due to which the relations between the two countries remain strong.

jordanian dinar price

The official currency of Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar, which is counted among the strongest currencies in the world. According to the report of Vice.com, the value of 1 Jordanian Dinar in India is Rs 128.23. According to this, if an Indian comes back to India after earning 500 rupees, then his price will be 64 thousand 115 rupees.

currency of ethiopia

The currency of Ethiopia is called Ethiopian Birr. The situation here seems completely opposite to Jordan. The Indian Rupee is in a stronger position against the Ethiopian currency. According to the report of Vice.com, the value of 1 Ethiopian Birr in India is only 0.59 paise. This is the reason why Indian businessmen and tourists are able to avail more facilities here at lower cost. According to this, if an Indian comes to India with 500 Ethiopian Birr, its price will be only Rs 293.
Currency of Oman Omani Rial

After Ethiopia, Prime Minister Modi will visit Oman. This visit is historic in many ways, as India and Oman are completing 70 years of diplomatic relations. Oman is a major partner of India in the Gulf region and a large number of Indian citizens work here. Oman’s currency Omani Rial is among the most expensive currencies in the world. For this reason, the value of Indian Rupee appears quite low here. According to the report of Vice.com, the value of 1 Omani Riyal is 236 rupees. According to this, if an Indian earns Rs 500 by going to Oman, then after coming to India its price will be Rs 1 lakh 18 thousand 154.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jordan this week, due to which the relations between India and Hashemite monarchy Jordan have once again drawn everyone’s attention. PM Modi held delegation-level talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein at the Al-Husseinia Palace in Amman on Monday (December 15, 2025), but today we will tell you about the Indian woman who got married in Pakistan and after that she even became the Crown Princess of Jordan.

Who is that Indian woman?

The name of the Indian woman we are talking about today is Princess Sarwat L. Hassan, who also has an interesting and deep connection to the Indian subcontinent with the Jordanian royal family. Princess Sarwat L. Hasan was born in Kolkata in 1947, just weeks before the partition of the country during the British era, into the Suhrawardy family, an influential Bengali Muslim family. His original name is Sarwat Ikramullah. His father Mohammad Ikramullah was an Indian Civil Service (ICS) officer and later became the first Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. His mother Shaista Suhrawardy Ikramullah was one of the first female parliamentarians of Pakistan and also served as ambassador to Morocco.

Born in India, married in Pakistan

Sarwat was educated in Britain and brought up in an international environment during his father’s diplomatic postings in Europe and South Asia. At the same time, at diplomatic events in London, he met Prince Hassan bin Talal of the Hashemite dynasty of Jordan for the first time.

After this, on August 28, 1968, Sarwat Ikramullah married Prince Hassan bin Talal in Karachi, Pakistan. The wedding ceremony was a unique fusion of Pakistani, Jordanian and Western traditions. After marriage, the couple settled in Amman and had four children, Princesses Rahma, Sumaya and Badia, and one Prince Rashid.

Crown Princess of Jordan for 31 years

Sarwat L. Hassan was the Crown Princess of Jordan from 1968 to 1999. During this period, she did remarkable work in the fields of education, social welfare and women empowerment. After this, in the year 1999, King Hussein declared his son Prince Abdullah as his successor, with which Prince Hassan’s tenure as Crown Prince ended.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) proposed to double India-Jordan bilateral trade to five billion US dollars in the next five years. He also invited Jordanian companies to take advantage of the country’s high economic growth and earn good profits.

PM Modi reached Jordan’s capital Amman on Monday. He has come here on a two-day visit at the invitation of King Abdullah II. Jordan is the first stop of the Prime Minister’s four-day three-nation tour. After this he will also go to Ethiopia and Oman.

Prime Minister Modi and King Abdullah II addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum here on Tuesday. Crown Prince Hussein and Jordan’s Trade and Industry Minister and Investment Minister were also present in this conference. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of strengthening trade relations between the two countries. Also called upon industrialists from both sides to convert this potential and opportunities into growth and prosperity.

King Abdullah II said Jordan’s free trade agreements and India’s economic power could be combined to create an economic corridor between South Asia and West Asia and beyond. While addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that India is soon going to become the third largest economy in the world. India’s success as a rapidly growing major economy provides immense commercial opportunities for Jordan and its partners around the world.

He said, ‘The relationship between India and Jordan is a relationship where historical trust and future economic opportunities come together.’ PM Modi invited Jordanian companies to partner with India and take advantage of its market of 1.4 billion consumers, strong manufacturing base and stable, transparent and predictable policy environment.

Referring to India’s growth rate of more than eight percent, he said that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth figure has remained high due to productivity-based governance and innovation-led development policies. The Prime Minister said that India is the third largest trading partner of Jordan. Figures matter in the business world.

He said that he is not here just to count statistics but to build long-term, trustworthy partnerships that go beyond statistics. PM Modi said that Jordan and India share a vibrant contemporary partnership built on the strong foundation of their close ties.

He also proposed doubling bilateral trade with Jordan to five billion US dollars in the next five years. PM Modi also mentioned opportunities for India-Jordan business cooperation in the areas of digital public infrastructure, information technology, financial technology, health technology and agricultural technology and invited startups from both the countries to cooperate in these areas.

Talking about India’s strength in the pharmaceutical and medical devices sector and Jordan’s geographical advantage, he said that both the countries can complement each other and make Jordan a reliable hub in these sectors for West Asia and Africa.

He also mentioned business opportunities for both sides in the areas of agriculture, cold chain, food parks, fertilizers, infrastructure, automotive, green transportation and heritage and cultural tourism. On India’s green initiatives, the Prime Minister suggested increasing cooperation between India and Jordan in areas such as renewable energy, green financing and water recycling.
The Prime Minister left for Ethiopia after a two-day visit to Jordan. The royal family gave full respect to PM Modi. He was welcomed at the Hussainiya Palace on Monday evening, and the Crown Prince himself arrived to see him off. The Prime Minister has described this tour as a success. We have also introduced you to some important milestones of the memorable journey.

On reaching there, King Abdullah II of Jordan welcomed PM Modi at the luxurious Husseiniya Palace. King Abdullah is considered a 41st generation descendant of Prophet Mohammed. His family has been ruling Jordan for 1400 years.

Something happened during this tour which will be remembered for years. There is a 2 minute 10 second clip on the Prime Minister’s X platform. Only in this is that unprecedented moment visible. Crown Prince of Jordan Al Hussein bin Abdullah II drove PM Modi in his own car to ‘The Jordan Museum’. PM signed the guest book. During this also, Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan was present.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the gesture of the Crown Prince. He wrote in X Post, ‘During my visit to Jordan, I had a detailed conversation with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II. His passion for Jordan’s progress is clearly visible. His contribution in areas like youth development, sports, space, innovation and furthering the welfare of persons with disabilities is truly commendable. My best wishes for his efforts to strengthen Jordan’s development path.

In a special gesture, Crown Prince II himself drove PM Modi to the airport and saw him off as he left for Ethiopia. Five important agreements were also signed between India and Jordan. These include agreements related to culture, renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure, and preservation of historical heritage.

Both countries signed agreements to increase cooperation in the field of culture, work together on renewable and clean energy projects and better management of water resources. At the same time, it was also agreed to advance partnership in digital governance and technology-based public services under digital public infrastructure. In the India-Jordan Business Forum, PM Modi expressed the importance of cultural relations between the two countries.

There are many countries in the world whose currency is more valuable than the Indian rupee. The names of Kuwait, Bahrain, Dollar, Pound and Euro are included in this list. Apart from this, the value of currency of Jordan, a Muslim country, which has a population of only 1 crore 12 lakh, is also much higher than the Indian Rupee. According to the report of Vice.com, the price of 1 Jordanian Dinar (JOD) is approximately equal to Rs 126.8 in Indian currency. Whereas 1 Indian Rupee is equal to only 0.00788 Jordanian Dinar in Jordan. According to this, if an Indian earns only 800 Jordanian Dinar in Jordan, then its value in India will be Rs 1 lakh 14 thousand.

In terms of value, the Jordanian Dinar ranks very high. It is considered to be the fourth most high-value currency in international ranking. In this list, only Kuwaiti Dinar, Bahraini Dinar and Omani Rial come ahead of it, hence JOD is counted among the most stable and reliable currencies of the world.

Why is the Jordanian Dinar so expensive?

Many people think that only oil-rich countries have strong currencies, but Jordan is an exception. Despite the absence of large oil reserves here, its currency remains at a consistently high level. The biggest reason for this is its economic structure. Jordan keeps its currency pegged to the US dollar at a stable rate, which prevents sudden fluctuations in the market. Due to this stability, confidence in the currency remains strong and the risk of international investors is reduced.

Also, the Central Bank of Jordan adopts a very controlled monetary policy. The supply of currency is kept limited, so that the price of JOD does not fall over time. Jordan’s economy may be small in size, but due to it being disciplined and stable, its currency always remains at a high value.

Why is the Indian Rupee weak?

The value of the Indian Rupee is much lower against the Jordanian Dinar, as the INR is a free-floating currency. Its rates vary depending on many factors like international trade, crude oil price, global economy and political stability. This is the reason why there are more fluctuations in the rupee and its value remains relatively weak.

Who controls the Jordanian dinar?

The entire currency system of Jordan is managed by the Central Bank of Jordan. Issuing bank notes, determining the supply of coins and making currency policies. Everything is under the control of this institute. Since its formation in 1964, Jordan has achieved continued success in keeping its currency strong and stable.

Jordanian notes and coins

All notes and coins in circulation in Jordan are printed and issued by the Central Bank. This control protects its currency from uncontrolled markets and keeps the JOD among the most stable currencies in the world.
