Applications of 130 to 150 journalists rejected

According to the report of Bangladesh’s leading newspaper The Daily Star, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Media Committee Chairman Amjad Hussain has confirmed this. He said that about 130 to 150 Bangladeshi journalists had applied for the T20 World Cup 2026, but according to his information, no one got recognition from the ICC.

Amjad Hossain said, “As far as I know, the applications of all Bangladeshi journalists have been rejected. This year 130 to 150 journalists had applied, but none has been approved.”

First approved, then suddenly canceled

The report also claims that some photojournalists were initially approved, but later their accreditation was also cancelled. Bangladeshi journalist Mir Farid said that he was sent an approval email and visa support letter from the ICC media department on January 20. However, after a few days, another email came in which my application was rejected.

Senior journalists expressed protest

The resentment regarding this decision is clearly visible in the Bangladeshi journalism world. Senior journalist Arifur Rahman Babu, who covered the 1996 World Cup, said he too was not recognized this time. Raising the question, he said that even if a team is not participating in the tournament, journalists from ICC associate member countries usually get accreditation.

Arifur, who is also the president of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA), has strongly condemned the decision. He said that he will talk to Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) and Bangladesh Sports Journalists Community (BSJC) on this issue and decide the future strategy.

ICC’s silence raises questions

At present, no official statement has come out from the media department of ICC on this entire matter, but it is certain that this controversy seems to be deepening before the T20 World Cup 2026. The Bangladesh-ICC dispute is no longer limited to just cricket, but has also reached media and journalism.

The wave of dissatisfaction in Pakistan Occupide Jammu and Kashmir (Pojk) has now spread to Islamabad. Police took alleged barbaric action at the National Press Club (NPC), which has revealed incidents of lathicharge and damage to media equipment. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) strongly condemned the attack. HRCP wrote on social media that raids on NPC and attack on journalists should be immediately brought under investigation and those responsible should be punished according to the law. The incident has created heavy resentment between human rights groups and media.

What did Zaid Gishkori, senior journalist of Pakistan say

Senior Pakistan journalist Zaid Gishkori reprimanded the officials and said that this action has raised serious questions. He asked how the house of journalists became unsafe for those who have no safe place to protest. At the same time, former Pakistan envoy in the United Nations Maliha Lodhi also described the raid as “condemnable” and demanded accountability of the responsibilities.

The incident is drawing international attention to the state of human rights in Pojk and the ongoing protest there.
