Along with the Bihar Assembly elections, counting of votes for the by-elections held in six states of the country and eight assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir will be done today. These seats include Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatshila in Jharkhand, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Dampa in Mizoram, Nuapada in Odisha and Budgam and Nagrota seats in Jammu and Kashmir.

Contest between 17 candidates in Budgam
This time 17 candidates are in the fray for Budgam assembly seat of Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference has given ticket to Agha Syed Mahmood Al-Mosawi, while PDP has fielded Agha Syed Muntajir Mehndi and BJP has fielded Agha Syed Mohsin Mosavi. Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Diba Khan from this seat.

10 candidates contesting Nagrota seat
A total of 10 candidates are contesting from Nagrota assembly seat. National Conference has fielded Shamim Begum, Devyani Rana is contesting from BJP’s side and Aam Aadmi Party has made Joginder Singh its candidate.

Interesting contest on Tarn Taran seat of Punjab
Voting took place in the much-discussed Tarn Taran assembly seat of Punjab on Tuesday morning amid tight security. This seat became vacant after the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal. A total of 15 candidates are trying their luck in this by-election. Aam Aadmi Party has given ticket to Harmeet Singh Sandhu, while Harjeet Singh Sandhu from BJP, Sukhwinder Kaur from Akali Dal and Karanbir Singh from Congress have contested the elections.

15 candidates for Anta seat of Rajasthan
A total of 15 candidates are contesting from Anta assembly seat of Baran district of Rajasthan. This seat had fallen vacant due to the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena after he was found guilty in a criminal case. Congress has given ticket to former minister Pramod Jain ‘Bhaya’, while BJP has made Morpal Suman its candidate.

Direct contest between JMM and BJP on Ghatshila seat of Jharkhand
Voters have decided the fate of 13 candidates in Ghatshila assembly seat of Jharkhand. The main contest here is believed to be between Somesh Chandra Soren of JMM and Babulal Soren of BJP. This by-election has been conducted due to the death of JMM MLA Ramdas Soren.

Contest between 5 candidates on Mizoram’s Dampa seat
Five candidates are in the fray for Mizoram’s Dampa assembly seat. The main opposition party MNF, along with its senior vice president R. Lalthangliyana has been given the ticket, while Congress has fielded John Rotluangliyana and BJP has fielded Lalmingthanga. This seat was vacant after the death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo.

Contest between 14 candidates on Nuapada seat of Odisha
14 candidates are trying their luck in the by-election on Nuapada assembly seat of Odisha. BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, BJP’s Jai Dholakia, Congress’ Ghasiram Majhi and Samajwadi Party’s Ramakant Hati are the main candidates on this seat. This by-election has been conducted due to the death of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia.

58 candidates for Jubilee Hills seat of Telangana
This time the most interesting contest is being seen on Jubilee Hills Assembly seat of Telangana, because a total of 58 candidates are in the fray here. BJP has given ticket to Deepak Reddy, Congress has fielded Naveen Yadav and BRS has fielded Maganti Sunita.

A strange scene is being seen these days in the streets of Jubilee Hills of Telangana regarding the by-elections. This is not just an election, but a drama being staged by the leaders, which is staged for a few days and then the curtain falls. Seeing this, some may feel sad, some may get angry, but to be honest, it is interesting what politics makes the leaders do.

In this race to gather votes, leaders are abandoning their real work i.e. public welfare and development and doing such work which does not match their position and prestige. Some leaders are shaving at barber shops, while others are trying to prove themselves as a common man by driving auto-rickshaws on the road. Someone is making tea at a tea shop, while someone is sweeping a house for two minutes. See the irony, these are the same leaders who are not seen in their areas for months and suddenly become laborers as soon as the elections come.

Leaders know where the pulse of the people lies and hence they try to create an emotional connect by doing work related to poverty, simplicity and everyday struggles. Even in a prestigious area like Jubilee Hills, where the real need is infrastructure and better governance, leaders are channeling their energies into such populist stunts.

The world knows that once the elections are over, these leaders will return to their suits and air-conditioned offices. This passion of working among the public is just a fever for a few days. After which they will disappear in the same way as the horn disappears from the head of a donkey.

The public also understands that this is all an election gimmick, but they are forced to be a part of this game. The question is whether this time the public will ignore this pretense and choose a leader who does real work or will they once again fall prey to these drama leaders.

Congress leader and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin took oath as minister. Governor Jishnu Dev Verma administered him the oath. The Congress government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had proposed to include Mohammad Azharuddin in the cabinet. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had expressed strong objection to this. BJP linked the decision to Jubilee Hills Bypoll and called it a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

BJP’s Election Commission Affairs Committee Chairman Marri Sashidhar Reddy met Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy. He had demanded to stop the swearing-in ceremony. BJP says that Azharuddin becoming a minister is an attempt to influence voters before the Jubilee Hills by-election. Marri Shashidhar Reddy said that Azharuddin is a voter of Jubilee Hills and was also a Congress candidate in 2023. In such a situation, this step is an attempt to sway the voters in favor of a particular class. This step of BJP is completely against the election code of conduct.

BJP cannot tolerate the success of minority leader

Congress gave a sharp reply to BJP’s allegations calling it communal politics. State Congress spokesperson and MP Chamla Kiran Kumar Reddy said that BJP cannot see a prominent minority leader coming into the cabinet. She is inciting communal sentiments in Jubilee Hills. Congress also accused BJP of making a secret agreement with Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) to prevent Congress from strengthening its secular image.

On the matter, Congress spokesperson Addanki Dayakar said that Azharuddin is the pride of the country. He made India proud on the cricket field. Making communal comments on him is extremely unfortunate. He reminded BJP that BJP itself had expanded the cabinet 20 days before the by-elections in Rajasthan. It was not considered a violation of the code of conduct at that time.

Political turmoil is in full swing in Telangana regarding the by-election of Jubilee Hills assembly constituency. Elections are going to be held in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in the state next month on November 11, 2025. Due to which, after the withdrawal of nominations in the state on Friday (October 24, 2025), a total of 58 candidates have now contested the elections.

211 candidates had filed nomination for the by-election.

However, a total of 211 candidates had filed nomination papers with the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the Jubilee Hills by-election. After the entire process, the Election Commission accepted the nominations of only 81 candidates. At the same time, the Election Commission said in an official statement that out of 81 approved candidates, 23 withdrew their candidature, after which now a total of 58 candidates are left in the electoral fray.

Cash, liquor and other goods worth Rs 2.82 crore seized

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has implemented the Model Code of Conduct for the by-election in Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency. Since the implementation of the code of conduct, cash, liquor and other goods worth more than Rs 2.82 crore have been seized.

District Election Officer gave information

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and District Election Officer R. V. Karnan said that all arrangements have been completed for 407 polling stations under the by-election in Jubilee Hills assembly constituency. He further said that many new measures initiated by the Election Commission of India for the convenience of voters will be implemented during the by-elections.

B.R.S. By-election fixed in Jubilee Hills after MLA’s death

At the same time, this by-election has become necessary due to the death of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA Maganti Gopinath due to a heart attack in June this year. Former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has named Maganti Gopinath’s wife Maganti Sunita as its candidate, while the ruling Congress party has named Naveen Yadav as its candidate.

Congress candidate Naveen Yadav has filed his nomination papers for Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election on Friday (October 17, 2025). During this time, senior party leader and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin was present with him, but the most talked about turn came when AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also reached the nomination venue and openly supported Yadav.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that the development of Jubilee Hills has been badly neglected during the 10-year rule of BRS. He said that 20% of BRS votes converted to BJP in the parliamentary elections, while in the 2023 assembly elections it will be 35%. For development, the party has decided to support the Congress candidate.

AIMIM will support Naveen Yadav

A crowd of Congress workers gathered during the filing of nominations. Mohammad Azharuddin encouraged Naveen Yadav and said that the party will contest the elections with full strength and will live up to the public trust.

Meanwhile, the performance of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi is being considered very important politically. He met Naveen Yadav at the nomination venue itself and wished him all the best for winning the Jubilee Hills by-election. Owaisi clearly said that he is in favor of Yadav and will work to ensure his victory.

Analysts believe that this closeness between Congress and AIMIM reflects the changing political developments in Telangana. This meeting is also being seen as an effort to unite the opposition for the upcoming elections, which can create new equations in the politics of the state. After the support of Owaisi, Naveen Yadav’s position has strengthened and the election contest of Jubilee Hills has become even more interesting.
