The situation has worsened after the torrential rains on Wednesday (August 20) in the coastal districts of Gujarat. Flood -like conditions are being seen in many areas. Mendarda taluka in Junagadh district recorded 331 mm of rain in 12 hours, while Keshod taluka received 280 mm of rain. Due to heavy rains, the low -lying areas were flooded and the administration had to conduct rescue operations to take people to safe places.

What is the estimate of the meteorological department?

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the next two days. The situation in many parts of the state’s Saurashtra region, especially Junagadh, Porbandar, Navsari and Valsad, remains serious.

Junagadh Collector Anil Ranavasia said that 3 taluka of the district is the most affected and 52 villages have been kept on alert in view of the boom of the dam. At the same time, rivers are in spate due to continuous increase in water and water has entered the low-lying areas of rural areas, which has disturbed the lives of people.

NDRF and SDRF teams deployed

The administration has deployed teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for rescue and relief work.

Officials said that 46 children and four teachers of a school were trapped due to floods in Borasar village in Porbandar district, which were tried to evacuate safely. Meanwhile, one person died due to lightning in Manavadar village of Junagadh district.

Devbhoomi Dwarka in the grip of flood

Here, Rawal village of Devbhoomi Dwarka district has also been hit by floods due to heavy rains. From here, the connectivity route of Kalyanpur village has been completely affected. The administration has set up relief camps to deal with the situation and the work of transporting flood -surrounded families to safe places is going on.

According to the Meteorological Department, the process of rain may continue for the next two days, so the administration has appealed to the citizens not to be vigilant and unnecessarily go to the low -lying areas.
