In the first Test match being played between West Indies and Pakistan, Caribbean fast bowler Justin Greaves bowled something which will be remembered for a long time in the history of Test cricket. On the third day, Greaves, in his second spell, removed sixes from Pakistan’s batsmen. He made a record which was not recorded in the name of any bowler before.

5 wickets taken in 5 consecutive maiden overs

Justin Greaves bowled five consecutive maiden overs in his second spell and took one wicket in each over. That means he bowled 30 balls, did not give a single run and sent five batsmen to the pavilion. For the first time in the history of Test cricket, a bowler has achieved the feat of taking five wickets in five consecutive maiden overs.

Not a single wicket was taken in the first spell

The most interesting thing in this was that Greaves’s start was not so great. In his first spell, he bowled six overs, costing 27 runs and could not take any wicket. But in the second spell he completely changed the course of the match. Pakistan’s batsmen could not stand against his precise line and length.

The sequence of wickets started after Shan Masood’s century.

Greaves first bowled Pakistan captain Shan Masood. Masood was batting brilliantly after scoring 109 runs, but as soon as he was out, Pakistan’s innings fell apart. After this Aamir Jamal was out after scoring only three runs. In the next over, Ali Usman returned to the pavilion without opening his account. Greaves did not stop here. He dismissed Mohammad Rizwan on a personal score of 12 runs and then did not even give Mohammad Abbas a chance to open his account. In this way, all five overs of his second spell were wicket maidens.

Pakistan’s innings was reduced to 282 runs from 199/3.

By the end of the second day’s play, Pakistan had scored 199 runs for three wickets and looked to be in a strong position. However, on the third day, the entire team was reduced to just 282 runs in front of the lethal bowling of Justin Greaves. Pakistan failed to take the lead in reply to West Indies’ 311 runs in its first innings.

West Indies increased the lead

West Indies, which took a lead of 29 runs in the first innings, continued to struggle in the second innings as well. Although the host team lost seven wickets for 126 runs by the end of the third day’s play, its total lead reached 155 runs. Now the fourth day of the match is going to be very important for both the teams, where Pakistan will try to make a comeback while West Indies will want to take strong steps towards victory.
