Shri Prakash Jaiswal, MP from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 81. Shri Prakash Jaiswal was ill for a long time. On Friday (November 28, 2025), after his health worsened, he was taken to Cardiology Hospital in Kanpur, where doctors declared him dead. Shri Prakash Jaiswal had also been the Coal Minister and Home Minister in the central government of Dr. Manmohan Singh. The news of his demise has created a wave of mourning in political circles.

Jaiswal was elected MP from Kanpur four times

Shri Prakash Jaiswal has been a four-time MP from Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and played important roles in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He served as the Union Coal Minister between 2009 and 2014, while he was the Minister of State for Home from 2004 to 2009. He was always respected in the House for his efficient administration and parliamentary debates.

Started political journey from City Congress Committee

Shri Prakash Jaiswal was born on 25 September 1944 in Kanpur, Jaiswal started his political journey from the local level. He went from being the President of the City Congress Committee to the Joint Secretary of the State Congress Committee. In the 1990s, he reached the Lok Sabha for the first time from Kanpur and was subsequently elected consecutively in 1996, 2004 and 2009. While in the Coal Ministry, he laid special emphasis on regional development, while in the Home Ministry, his activism on the issues of internal security and law and order was commendable.

Shri Prakash Jaiswal was ill for a long time

Jaiswal, who was suffering from health related problems for a long time, had become more critical in the last few days. According to family members, his health had deteriorated significantly since this morning and he was taken to the Cardiology Hospital late in the evening. On reaching there, the doctors confirmed his death after examination. The main cause of death is said to be heart related complications.,

Gautam Adani: After infrastructure, green energy, port, now Adani Group is going to make big investment in defense sector. Adani Group company Adani Defense and Aerospace is thinking of expanding its ammunition manufacturing factory spread over 500 acres near Kanpur.

In this sequence, there is a preparation to invest Rs 7,000 crore. The company aims to supply about 25 percent of the ammunition requirements for the country’s army, central investigative agencies, police and special units.

The plan is to reduce dependence on imports.

Small caliber ammunition is already being manufactured in the Defense Corridor of Uttar Pradesh near Kanpur. As far as Adani Defense and Aerospace unit is concerned, its annual production capacity is 15 crore rounds, which can be increased to 50 crore rounds in the future.

Adani Group’s plan is to reduce its dependence on explosive materials imported from other countries. Company’s Joint President and Land System Head Ashok Wadhawan said that there is a huge shortage of energy materials at the global level. He said, “Even if you place an order abroad, the delivery can be done only till 2027. We have increased our capacity by collaborating with many foreign suppliers so that the production can continue.”

Business is continuously growing

The company has already received large orders from the Indian Armed Forces and other security agencies. Besides, Adani Defense has also started expanding its export business. Company officials say that they are now supplying ammunition to buyers in Europe and many Asian countries.

Apart from ammunition, Adani Defense has also provided drones and loitering weapons to the Indian Armed Forces. Some of these were also used during ‘Operation Sindoor’. The company manufactures drones in its Hyderabad unit. It also has a joint venture with Israeli company Elbit Advanced, which is known as Adani Elbit Advanced India Limited.
