Women’s life has become a little easier in Karnataka from today. The government has issued an official notice and implemented ‘Period Leave Policy 2025’ in the entire state. This means very clearly that government offices, private companies and industrial sectors will now give one day paid period leave to women every month. That means a total of 12 holidays in a year, that too without salary deduction.

This policy was passed in the cabinet last month and now it has been implemented. This decision has directly brought relief to those women who considered it a compulsion to go to work every month despite pain, fatigue and discomfort. It is clearly written in the notice. Every working woman between 18 to 52 years will be able to take advantage of this scheme.

Direct benefit to 60 lakh women

According to the data of Labor Department of Karnataka, about 60 lakh women work in different sectors in the state. Of these, about 25 to 30 lakh women are part of the corporate sector. The government is soon going to call a big meeting of all the employers, in which it will be told how to implement this policy and what rules will have to be followed. The focus of the government is that no organization should ignore this order and women should get their full rights. This step has been taken keeping in mind the health, comfort and productivity of women.

The committee said that rest is necessary for the body during periods, that is why the new policy was made. Before implementing this policy, the government had formed an 18-member committee. This committee explained in detail what changes occur in the body of women during periods and why rest is necessary during this period.

It was told in the report that during periods, women face problems like stomach ache, fatigue, mood swings, heaviness and sometimes severe weakness. Sapna S, head of the law department of Christ University, was leading this committee. After the report came, the government also took opinion from many departments and companies. In particular, discussions were held with women-dominated sectors like the textile industry to see how the policy would impact them.

Period leave is available here

Karnataka has now joined the list of select states where women get leave during periods. In Bihar, women get two period leaves every month. Odisha has recently announced a holiday for government women employees. Now Karnataka has also taken this big step understanding the needs of women.
