Amidst the continuous speculation about the post of Chief Minister in Karnataka Congress and the news of cabinet reshuffle, Siddaramaiah’s supporters vented their anger on the party high command. Siddaramaiah’s supporters gathered outside his official residence on Wednesday and protested amid speculations of his resignation. Police stationed outside his official residence Kaveri, sloganeering protesters were taken away in buses and removed from there.

Siddaramaiah supporters angry at high command

One of the supporters said that if Siddaramaiah resigns from the post of Chief Minister, Congress will face a huge blow in the state. He accused the Congress high command of creating a crisis. The protesters also raised slogans against the leadership of the Congress Party and expressed dissatisfaction over the change of Chief Minister.

Another supporter said, ‘He (Siddaramaiah) is the most popular leader and the strength of the Congress party in Karnataka. He should remain the Chief Minister. The show of strength by his supporters comes at a time when there is speculation in political circles that Siddaramaiah may resign and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar can take over as Chief Minister.

DK Shivkumar can be the next CM: Congress MLA

Congress MLA Ashok Pattan, fueling speculation about change of leadership in Karnataka, on Wednesday said that there is a strong possibility of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar becoming the next Chief Minister. Hinting at a major cabinet reshuffle under the new leadership, Pattan also said that around 15 to 20 ministers from the current cabinet may have to step down to make way for new faces. He stressed that there is no possibility of voting in the Congress Legislature Party meeting and the election of the new leader will be unanimous.

When asked whether Shivkumar could become the Chief Minister, Congress MLA from Ramdurg Pattan said, ‘Yes, there is a 100 per cent possibility. There is definitely such a possibility. When asked whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation would be a shock, the MLA said such developments were not unusual in the Congress party.
