Congress MP P Chidambaram has expressed surprise over the statement of Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, in which he had talked about taking bulldozer action on buildings built with the money earned from drug smuggling in the state.

Demolishing houses without due process is illegal – Chidambaram

Former Finance Minister of the country Chidambaram posted on social media platform X and said that Congress bulldozer is against justice. He appealed to the Karnataka government not to go against the view of the Supreme Court and adopt ‘illegal route’ regarding demolition of houses.

The Congress MP wrote, ‘I am worried by the statement of Karnataka Home Minister in which he has said that bulldozers can be used to demolish the houses of drug smugglers. I hope this report is wrong. The Supreme Court has made it clear that demolition of houses without due process is illegal and will violate the fundamental and human rights of shelter to other members of the family.

He further said, ‘Furthermore, the Congress Party believes that the policy of bulldozer justice adopted in Uttar Pradesh is wrong, illegal and unjust. A Congress ruled state like Karnataka should not follow the illegal path of Uttar Pradesh.

What did the Karnataka Home Minister say in the Assembly?

Earlier on Thursday, G. Parameshwara had said in the assembly that the government would demolish buildings built with money obtained from drug trafficking.

P Chidambaram has referred to the comment of the Supreme Court bench headed by CJI BR Gavai in November 2024. In which the bench had said that if a bulldozer is used on a house because the person living in the house is an accused or has been convicted in some crime, it is equivalent to imposing punishment on the entire family. The top court had said, ‘In our view, our constitutional system and criminal jurisprudence will never allow this.’

The Karnataka government on Thursday (December 04, 2025) approved a historic bill designed to control hate speech and hate crimes. The Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill is now ready to be introduced in the state assembly.

According to the draft of the bill obtained by ABP News, there is a provision for strict punishment on individuals and organizations who spread communal tension, give hate speeches or incite hatred.

What will be the punishment for hate speech?

Several important provisions have been added to the bill, including harsher punishments for hate speech crimes. If found guilty for the first time, imprisonment of one to seven years and a fine of up to ₹ 50,000 can be imposed. In case of repeat offence, the punishment has been increased to two to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹ 1,00,000. All offenses will be cognizable and non-bailable and cases will be heard by Judicial Magistrate First Class. Courts have also been given the power to award compensation commensurate with the loss suffered by the victims.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK. Patil said that this law is being brought with the aim of preventing unnecessary unrest in the society. He said, we have made very strict provisions in terms of penalties and punishments. This law will work very strictly against hate speech.

Patil also said that at present there is no such adequate law in the country, hence the state government has taken this step. He clarified that this bill is not to suppress the voice of dissent, but the law will take strict action against those who spread hatred.

Along with this, the cabinet also approved several draft bills. These include-

1. Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Prevention Bill
2. Bayalusime Area Development Board (Amendment) Bill
3. Malnad Area Development Board (Amendment) Bill
4. Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Settlement (Amendment) Bill
5. Sri Chamundeshwari Area Development Authority (Amendment) Bill
6. Karnataka Inland Water Transport Rules Bill
7. Karnataka Cattle Slaughter Prevention and Protection Act – This is related to amendment in the provisions of Central Government grants to slaughter houses.
8. Karnataka Social Boycott (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill — has been brought with the aim of promoting social reforms.

The tussle between the Congress in Karnataka has calmed down after Breakfast Politics, but the sudden visit of Deputy CM DK Shivakumar to Delhi has raised the political temperature. However, DK Shivakumar said that his visit is not political, rather he has come to attend the wedding of his son’s friend. During this, he said that since the Parliament is in session, he cannot meet the High Command.

Delhi tour is not political: DK Shivakumar

After reaching Delhi, DK Shivakumar said, “There is no political agenda. I have come here for the marriage of my friend’s son. Also, I wanted to make arrangements for the vote theft rally on December 14. We are expecting more than 10,000 people from Karnataka. I just wanted to talk to my colleagues and other friends to see what arrangements we can make, hence I have come here.”

Will DK Shivkumar meet the party high command?

He said, “As Karnataka Congress President, all these things are my responsibility, so I have come here to do this. We have to take Karnataka forward together, work together. I will return early in the morning because I have a cabinet meeting at 11 o’clock.” On the question of meeting the party high command in Delhi, he said, “Right now the winter session of Parliament is going on, so everyone is busy. I do not think that I will be able to meet anyone because everyone is busy in Parliament.”

Supporters of CM and Deputy CM raised slogans

Meanwhile, something happened at Mangaluru airport to welcome General Secretary KC Venugopal, after which speculations started being made that all is not well in Karnataka. KC Venugopal was welcomed at Mangaluru airport with slogans in support of Shivakumar. In response, Siddaramaiah’s supporters later retaliated by raising slogans of ‘full term for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday (2 December 2025) along with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Reached Shivkumar’s residence, where both the leaders had breakfast together. As soon as CM Siddaramaiah arrived for the breakfast meet, both DK brothers welcomed him with bouquets. DK Suresh touched the feet of the Chief Minister. Kunigal MLA Dr. Ranganath was also present on the occasion.

Just before this meeting, Congress sources clarified that any decision to change the Chief Minister in Karnataka will be taken only by Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. No such instructions have been given yet. At present, both the leaders have been asked to meet each other and resolve the matter. The breakfast prepared for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was cooked at Shivakumar’s house, which included idli, dosa, upma, natti chicken and coffee.

Shivkumar had also arrived for breakfast
According to the PTI report, the recent meeting is being projected as a cordial visit as three days ago, Shivkumar had similarly visited the Chief Minister’s official residence for a breakfast meet. Shivkumar had said on Monday (1 December 2025) that both he and the Chief Minister will continue to work together as a team. He also mentioned that the Deputy Chief Minister had invited Siddaramaiah for breakfast so that collective efforts could be discussed to fulfill the promises made to Karnataka. He also said that both of them are working like brothers. He stressed that there is no factionalism in the state unit of Congress and blamed the media for creating confusion. On the issue of leadership, both said that they will obey the high command.

belagavi assembly session
This development is being seen as a step taken by the high command to stop the leadership tussle between the two and indicates that Siddaramaiah will continue to be the Chief Minister for now, especially ahead of the Belagavi Assembly session starting on December 8.

The ongoing controversy over power sharing in Congress ruled Karnataka is not showing any signs of stopping. Recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had called State Deputy CM DK Shivakumar for a breakfast meeting at the CM residence, after which a statement came from both the leaders that there are no differences now. However, Siddaramaiah had made it clear that this meeting was held at the behest of the party high command. He had said that I will do whatever the high command says.

Just two days after this meeting, today (November 1), DK Shivkumar has created a stir in the state politics by posting on X. Now he has called the Chief Minister for breakfast. DK Shivakumar posted on X, “The Chief Minister and I will continue to work together as a team. I have invited the Chief Minister for breakfast tomorrow to discuss and strengthen our efforts together to fulfill the promises made to Karnataka.”

DK Shivakumar called Siddaramaiah for breakfast meeting

Let us tell you that there is a tussle going on between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar for the post of Chief Minister in Karnataka for a long time. To end this, a high profile breakfast meeting was organized in Bengaluru on Saturday (29 November). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had told that the party leadership asked him and Shivakumar to sit together and talk over breakfast. The party high command had called this meeting to control the situation and resolve the matter, but now DK Shivakumar has called the Chief Minister of the state for a breakfast meeting.

Had breakfast with Siddaramaiah 2 days ago

After the breakfast meeting with Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar had said that with the support of all of you, we have brought the Congress government and we are working as per our promise. The people of the state are giving their full support. We have to fulfill their wishes. We are working in that direction. Whatever the high command says, we will follow it and there is no factionalism. We are still working together.

The traffic problem of Bengaluru has become a cause of trouble for the common people, which has completely spoiled the plans of many people. Now this time a Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai has become its victim. Actually, MP Rajiv Rai had left to catch his scheduled flight to Delhi to attend the winter session of Parliament, but before that he was stuck on the streets of Bengaluru for several hours.

Rajeev Rai, MP from Ghosi, Uttar Pradesh, was afraid of missing his flight, so he also tried to contact Bengaluru Police to get rid of this problem, but he claims that there was no response to his call from Bengaluru Police. He alleged that there was not a single traffic policeman present on the Bengaluru road to handle the heavy traffic jam.

SP MP expressed displeasure on social media

MP Rajeev Rai became very angry after being stuck in Bengaluru traffic for several hours. He expressed his anger through a post shared on social media platform X. During this, he targeted the Karnataka government and the state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He said that this city has become known for its terrible traffic. Along with this, he also termed the Bengaluru traffic police as useless and irresponsible.

MP Rajiv Rai said in his ex-post, “Chief Minister of Karnataka, I am sorry, but you have the worst traffic system and the traffic police is the most irresponsible and useless. They do not even pick up the phone. I have taken a screenshot of my attempts to talk to them, no one picked up my call.” He said that he was stuck at the same place on Rajkumar Samadhi Road for an hour and his flight was about to miss. He said, “Tomorrow Monday (December 1, 2025) I have to attend the Parliament session. Not a single policeman is visible around here. There is no doubt that the traffic in Bengaluru is now counted among the worst in the world.”

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has now fiercely targeted the Congress over the ongoing chief ministerial tussle in Congress-ruled Karnataka. Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi over the alleged tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar in Indore on Sunday, he said that there are some students who are not ready to learn lessons from the public. He said this while talking to the media.

What did Scindia say on Congress?

Scindia told reporters in Indore, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people have hoisted the flag of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across the country. The Modi-led government has brought about all-round development of India and raised the country’s image on the world stage. On the other hand, there is a party (Congress) which is embroiled in a fight for the chair in the state where it is in power.

He said that he did not want to comment in detail on the ‘internal matters’ of Congress. However, he did not fail to take a dig at the arch rival of BJP.

The Union Minister said, “It is the public that decides about the future of this party (Congress) and the public repeatedly teaches them a lesson, but there are some students who are not ready to learn the lesson.”

On the controversial statement of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani regarding the Supreme Court, Scindia said that he was not aware of it but no person should ever make cheap comments on any pillar of democracy, especially the judiciary.

Madani had said that whenever there is oppression, there will be jihad.

Actually, Maulana Mahmood Madani had given a controversial statement regarding Vande Mataram. It was said that it is not difficult for the dead communities because they surrender. If they say read ‘Vande Mataram’ then they will start reading, but this will be the identity of being a dead community. If the community is alive then we will have to raise our morale. We will have to face the situation. He also commented on the Supreme Court. In this, regarding silence in many matters, he had said that whenever there is oppression, then there will be Jihad.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday (November 30) once again dismissed reports of internal differences with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He said that amid speculations about change of leadership in the state, he never took any MLA to Delhi.

Let us tell you that on Saturday, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar had a meeting over breakfast, after which they showed unity and denied any differences between them.

There have never been any differences between us: Deputy CM

Shivkumar told the media on Sunday, ‘There have never been any differences between us. Whenever I went to Delhi, I did not take even a single MLA. I could have taken at least 10 to 12 MLAs. This does not serve any purpose.

He said that being the Karnataka Pradesh Congress President, he is a ‘father figure’ to all the party members. DK said, ‘I have to take everyone along. All 140 MLAs are dear to me. I never discriminate against anyone. I have no differences with anyone.

I tried to save Kumaraswamy government: DK

HD was the Chief Minister for one year from May 2018. Recalling his efforts during Kumaraswamy’s tenure, DK Shivakumar said, ‘I tried my best to save the coalition government of Congress and JD(S). Both I and God know this.

He said Kumaraswamy and his father former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda also knows this. Responding to Kumaraswamy’s allegation that Shivakumar had sought the support of the abbots amid the tug of war for power, he said, ‘I never asked for it. I love all races. Many saints spoke in my favor. Had I asked him to speak on my behalf? No. This is their love and trust in me. Should I call it wrong?’

I don’t backstab: DK Shivakumar

Shivakumar said, ‘Let him (Kumaraswamy) say whatever he wants, but I will not be hurt. I never backstab. I go ahead and fight.

On the criticism being made by BJP regarding the leadership dispute, he said, ‘BJP can say anything for its survival. Should we take them seriously?’

The Deputy Chief Minister said that he wants to call an all-party meeting in Delhi to raise several issues related to the state, including the farmers’ issue and the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir Project, in view of the Parliament session starting from December 1.
