According to the Puranas, when a person attains premature death and does not duly perform his funeral or shraddha, his self wanders for years and obstructs the family for many generations.

There is a pool named Vampire Mochan in Kashi where these wandering souls can be pacified when worshiped even on Pitra Paksha or normal days.

The Kashi section of the Garun Purana describes the vampire Mochan Kund, where special Shraddha and Tarpan are performed for the peace of the soul of the ancestors. Many people in the ancestral side come here with the aim of giving salvation to their disgruntled fathers.

According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu himself has given this pool a boon of vampire redemption, so that whoever takes bath and worship here with reverence, inauspicious obstacles will be removed from his life.

There is an old peepal tree near the pool and wandering souls are seated on it. A coin is also tied on the tree to take off their debt. With this karma, all the borrowings of the ancestors are removed and they get free from obstacles and attain salvation.

In the vampire redemption kund, unquenchable and disturbed souls are shown the path of salvation through Tripindi Shraddha and Narayan Bali. It is believed that by taking a bath once in this pool, one gets a virtue equal to 100 times in Kashi.
