Voting for the ongoing assembly elections 2026 in the country’s two states Assam, Kerala and also the Union Territory Puducherry has stopped till 6 pm on 9th April 2026 i.e. Thursday. Now the fate of many scoundrels has been sealed in the voter box. Election Commission has started sealing EVMs and VVPATs. According to the Election Commission, till 5 pm, 84.42% voting took place in Assam, 75.01% in Kerala and 86.92% in Puducherry.

CM Rangaswamy cast his vote in Puducherry, Defense Minister AK Antony cast his vote in Kerala. Apart from this, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma worshiped at Kamakhya temple and also cast his vote in Jalukbari with his wife. Now everyone is waiting for May 4, when the election results of these states will be revealed.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that a big statement has been given regarding the 2026 assembly elections. He said that the assembly elections held in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry are a historic example for democracy not only in India but for the entire world. On behalf of the Election Commission of India, he congratulated all the voters of these states for this achievement and said that this is a great demonstration of democratic participation. Mentioning “festival of elections, pride of voter” in its message, CEC praised the active participation of citizens and their dedication towards democracy.

Keep an eye on these seats of Assam

If we talk about Assam, there are 3 big seats on which everyone’s eyes are. The first popular seat among these Jalukbari Assembly Is. BJP candidate and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in the election fray from here. Bidisha Neog has fielded against him from Congress. Himanta has been winning elections from here for five consecutive times. This is considered the stronghold of BJP.

Dispur BJP candidate Pradyut Bordoloi is in the electoral fray. From here, Congress has fielded Meira Borthathakur. This has been a traditional seat of Congress, but at present BJP has dominance.

Assam’s third seat Jorhat But everyone’s eyes are on it. Hitendra Nath Goswami is contesting elections from BJP from here. So Gaurav Gogoi is contesting from Congress. Gogoi is contesting the assembly elections for the first time.

Keep an eye on these seats of Kerala

There are two big seats in Kerala on which everyone’s eyes are. nemom seat BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrashekhar is in the election fray. V. Shivankutty is contesting against him from CPIM.

Dharamdam seat BJP’s CK Padmanabhan is in the election fray. CPIM candidate Pinarayi Vijayan is in the election fray.

Will BJP be able to repeat its coalition government in Puducherry?

If we talk about Puducherry, there are 30 assembly seats here. Here 294 candidates from 20 parties are in the electoral fray. Everyone’s fate is sealed in EVMs and VVPATs. The politics of Puducherry has always been one of coalition. Here sometimes BJP was dominant and sometimes Congress maintained its dominance. At present there is a coalition government between BJP and AINRC. He has a total of 16 seats. It will be interesting to see whether this time the BJP alliance will be able to repeat its victory in this election.

Voting is going on for 140 assembly seats in Kerala. Meanwhile, a tragic incident has come to light on the day of voting from Vaniyampara in Thrissur district of Kerala. Here, a 62-year-old elderly man’s health deteriorated immediately after casting his vote and he later died. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Vinodan, who was a resident of Ramanchira near Vaniyampara. He had reached EKM UP School in Vaniyampara on Thursday morning to cast his vote.

According to the information, Vinodan stood in the queue for more than an hour. After this he exercised his franchise. But while coming out of the polling station at around 10.45 in the morning, he suddenly fell unconscious. The people present at the spot immediately tried to help him and made him sit on a chair, but his condition continued to deteriorate. Within some time, the ambulance reached the spot and he was taken to the nearest government hospital.

Doctors declared him dead

On reaching the hospital, doctors declared him dead. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the area after this incident. Police said that necessary action will be taken in the matter and investigation into the incident has been started so that the exact cause of death can be known. This incident also shows the circumstances faced on the day of voting, where long queues and physical discomfort can become a risk for some people.

The contest in Kerala elections is very interesting

This time the contest in the Kerala Assembly elections has become very interesting. A total of 883 candidates are in the fray in the state, which means on an average six to seven candidates are trying their luck on each seat. It is clear from this that competition in elections has increased considerably. However, the situation has become more complicated on many seats, because rebels and independent candidates are also contesting in large numbers. Because of these, the contest has become multi-cornered in many constituencies, where it is not easy to predict the result. Talking about voters, there are about 27 lakh voters in the state, who will exercise their franchise at more than 30,000 polling stations. The Election Commission has made extensive preparations for voting on such a large scale, so that the process can be completed in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Kerala Assembly Polls 2026: Just before the Kerala Assembly elections, the political temperature is at its peak. Congress leader VD Satheesan has released an alleged video and made a serious allegation that BJP workers are distributing money in exchange for votes. He claimed that it is clearly visible in the video that money is being given to an elderly woman and all this is happening in the presence of the party candidate.

Satheesan also said that this is not limited to just one seat, but efforts are being made to distribute money and sarees to women in many constituencies. He alleged that ‘this is happening for the first time in Kerala and BJP is implementing a new system to influence the voters.’ According to him, this is a serious attempt to influence the democratic process, which cannot be ignored.

On the allegations of distributing money to women, he said that these are ‘not serious allegations’ and the woman concerned herself has clarified that BJP did not give any money.
Opinion Poll 2026: There is intense political activity regarding the assembly elections to be held in four states of India – West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Meanwhile, opinion polls of the four states have come out, in which it has become clear which party or alliance is getting the lead in these four states. Elections are going to be held in two phases on 294 assembly seats in West Bengal, where CM Mamata Banerjee’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) is contesting with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while in Assam, which has 126 assembly seats, the Congress party is in the fray against the ruling BJP.

CM Stalin’s party DMK is going to compete with the NDA alliance of BJP and AIADMK for 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, while the ruling left alliance LDF, UDF alliance with other parties including Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party are in the electoral fray to win 140 assembly seats in Kerala.

Whose government is being formed in Bengal according to the opinion poll?

According to the latest opinion poll of Matriz, the contest in West Bengal politics has reached a very interesting mode even before the elections. The figures revealed in the opinion poll are shocking for all the political parties. According to Matriz’s survey, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) may get 140 to 160 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections with 43 percent votes. At the same time, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can win 130 to 150 seats with 41 percent votes, while other parties of the state can win 8 to 16 seats with 16 percent votes. The majority figure in West Bengal is 148. In such a situation, TMC definitely has a slight lead of 2 percent in the opinion poll, but this difference is so small that the electoral picture can change at any time.

Clean sweep for BJP in Assam in opinion poll

According to the survey conducted by Matrize and Chanakya, the BJP-led NDA alliance is in a strong position in the upcoming assembly elections in Assam and its chances of coming back to power or retaining power appear high.

According to the matrix, if we talk about vote share, BJP+ alliance can get 46 percent votes, Congress+ alliance can get 36 percent votes and others can get 18 percent votes. Talking about seats, BJP+ alliance is likely to get 92 to 102 seats, Congress+ alliance is likely to get 22 to 32 seats and others are likely to get 4 to 7 seats.

At the same time, according to Chanakya’s survey, in Assam, Bharatiya Janata Party alliance may get 83 to 90 seats, Congress+ alliance may get 30 to 36 seats and others may get 3 to 6 seats.

NDA’s star can shine in Tamil Nadu

According to the MATRIZE opinion poll shown on India TV, this time the star of AIADMK led NDA can shine in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. According to the opinion poll, MK Stalin’s party DMK may get 102 to 115 seats in the elections. Whereas the NDA alliance of BJP and AIADMK is likely to get 107 to 120 seats. At the same time, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) of actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay may get 5 to 12 seats and others are likely to get one to six seats.

Who will get power in the three-way contest in Kerala?

According to the MATRIZE opinion poll shown on India TV, the ruling Left alliance in Kerala is likely to get 62 to 68 seats, while the Congress-led UDF alliance is seen getting a lead in the elections with 67 to 73 seats. Whereas in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party can win 5 to 8 seats with 15 percent vote share and others are likely to win zero to three seats.

Campaigning for assembly elections is in full swing in 5 states. Amidst the election mode, uproar has started regarding the statements of the leaders. The latest case is related to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. BJP has accused Kharge of insulting the people of Gujarat and other states of North India by calling them ‘uneducated’. BJP accused Congress of practicing “divide and rule” politics before the assembly elections.

What did Kharge say?

Actually, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had arrived on Sunday (April 5) to campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections. During this, in his speech he described the people of Gujarat as ‘uneducated’ and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ‘fooling’ them. Kharge also said that neither Modi nor Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan can fool the people of Kerala as they are “very smart and educated”.

The Congress President said, ‘Do not mislead the people of Kerala. They are very smart and educated. Modi ji, Vijayan, both of you can fool the uneducated people of Gujarat or other places, but you cannot fool the people of Kerala.

BJP’s strong counterattack

BJP has given a befitting reply to this statement of Kharge. BJP national president Nitin Naveen, targeting Kharge, said, ‘Always insulting others, insulting the people of the state, this is the character of Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leaders. I ask, Mallikarjun Kharge ji, Sardar Patel also comes from the same Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi also comes from the same Gujarat, did you not insult him too? The leader of the same Gujarat is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who secured the country’s borders, increased the respect of the country’s poor people and women through Jan-Dhan schemes.

He further said, ‘In the states where you (Congress) did not get power, you called them illiterate? This reflects your mentality and character to some extent… I would say that Mallikarjun Kharge, you keep giving statements like this, the public will keep punishing you. People see that you do politics only for votes. Wherever you get votes you only do corruption.

Sudhanshu Trivedi targeted

Party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi asked the Congress President his opinion on the ‘intelligence’ of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and all the prominent Congress leaders hailing from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of North India.

Taking a jibe at the Congress, the Rajya Sabha member said, ‘I would not like to ask about Rahul Gandhi, because the entire country knows about him.’ Trivedi said that the people of Kerala are really intelligent and very educated but Congress and Left parties, no one has ever done justice to them. The BJP leader said, the people of Kerala will give him a befitting reply in the upcoming elections.

What did Shehzad Poonawala say?

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said Kharge had made “shocking comments” against the people of Gujarat and North India, which reflected the party’s “divide and rule” mentality. Poonawala posted a video on the social media platform ‘X’ and said, ‘Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has once again made shocking remarks against the people of Gujarat and North India. This reflects Congress’s policy of divide and rule.

Poonawala said, ‘He abused the people of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh just because they do not vote for Congress. When Congress loses elections, it abuses people. He questioned whether Congress leaders in Gujarat and opposition leaders like Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s Tejashwi Yadav support such comments.

The battle over FCRA amendment has intensified in Kerala politics. Senior Congress leader and General Secretary KC Venugopal has expressed strong protest by writing a letter directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has expressed deep displeasure, calling the PM’s statement an “insult to the entire community”. The controversy began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during an NDA rally in Thiruvalla, Kerala on April 4, accused the UDF of “spreading lies” regarding the FCRA and the Uniform Civil Code. Now Congress has retaliated against this statement and made it a political and sensitive issue.

“I am writing with deep sadness and despair…”
KC Venugopal used very strong words in his letter. He wrote: “I am writing to you with deep sorrow and disappointment. Your statement in Kerala, in which you accused the UDF of spreading lies for political gain regarding FCRA, was extremely problematic and insulting to the entire community. Making such a statement on a holy day was especially unfortunate and avoidable.”

Venugopal also made it clear that the proposed changes in FCRA have “far-reaching and dangerous consequences”, which cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Government’s stand- “Honest NGOs need not be afraid”
Amidst this entire controversy, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju presented the government’s side. He said, “The Christian community need not worry at all. The proposed FCRA amendment bill will help good NGOs and will target only those illegal organizations that are working against the interests of India. There will be no harm to good organizations, especially Christian organizations. I want to give them full assurance that this bill will not harm genuine organizations.” He also told that at present the bill has been put on hold and it will be discussed further.

Kharge’s attack – “This is not a reform, it is an attack”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also cornered the Modi government on this issue. He said, “This is not reform. This is an attack, not just on Christian institutions, but also on civil society, NGOs and organizations that help the poor.” Terming it as “selective targeting”, Kharge said that just as the change in Waqf law created fear in the Muslim community, similarly the FCRA amendment has increased concern in the Christian community.

Electoral impact and political message
Just before the assembly elections in Kerala, the issue of FCRA has become very politically sensitive. Congress is trying to make it a big election issue by linking it to the security and rights of communities, while BJP is presenting it by linking it to transparency and national security. This entire controversy has made it clear that the FCRA amendment is no longer just a legal or administrative issue, but has directly become the center of political, social and religious discussion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (April 4, 2026) targeted Congress and Left parties and termed them experts in lying. He said that he calls everything from Kerala Story to Dhurandhar a lie, whereas the truth is that he himself has become a complete expert in telling lies.

Addressing an election rally in Thiruvalla, Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘LDP and UDF have become experts in lying. He said that Kerala story is a lie, Kashmir files are a lie and Dhurandhar is also a lie.

Spreading lies regarding UCC and FCRA: PM Modi

Making a sharp attack on the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Congress and Left parties have become factories of lies. He alleged that these parties are spreading fear and confusion among the people regarding the recent amendments in FCRA and Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said, ‘These days these people are spreading a lot of lies about FCRA and UCC. UCC has been in force in Goa for decades, but lies are being spread about it too. He had done the same during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). These people are working to spread lies.

Congress wants Gulf countries to consider India as enemy: PM Modi

In his address, PM Modi accused Congress leaders of endangering the lives of Indian citizens living in the Middle East by making dangerous statements. He said that the Congress Party wants that during the ongoing war in the Middle East, the Gulf countries should consider India as their enemy, that we should make any mistake here, make any such statement and about one crore Indian expatriates living in the Gulf countries would have to face problems and their lives would be in danger. That’s why Congress is giving such statements which will anger the Gulf countries.

He further said, ‘Congress is ready to compromise the safety of these migrants for electoral gains and is working to instigate tension in West Asia. Such irresponsible statements can affect India’s strong position in the Middle East.

Referring to the schemes being run for the farmers, the Chief Minister said that every year the state government is giving about Rs 18,000 crore as financial assistance to the farmers under the Raitu Bharosa scheme.
Revanth Reddy targeted the opposition

All preparations for the assembly elections to be held in Keralam on Thursday next week (April 9, 2026) have been completed. The Election Commission is taking every necessary step to conduct fair elections in the state. Meanwhile, the excitement between political parties in the state has reached its peak and the process of accusing and counter-accusing each other is continuing. In this sequence, Congress Party leader K. C. Venugopal has made a big allegation against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), the ruling party in Kerala state.

Fake Aadhaar card will be used for fake voting: Venugopal

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K. C. Venugopal on Thursday (April 2, 2026) alleged that the ruling CPI-M is conspiring to influence the electoral process in Kerala by making fake Aadhaar cards. He said that the party is preparing fake Aadhaar cards on a large scale so that the voter list of the state can be manipulated.

Demand for immediate intervention from central agencies

Congress Organization General Secretary K. During this, C. Venugopal demanded that the central agencies should immediately intervene in this very serious matter and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged Aadhaar card racket going on in the office of CPI (M) in Payyanur, Kerala and strictest action should be taken against whoever is found guilty in this matter, no matter which party they belong to.
