Kolkata law college case: Officials of South Calcutta Law College have expelled three accused of gangrape from a 24 -year -old student from the college. An official gave this information on Tuesday (July 01, 2025).

The Kolkata Police called the identity of the rape victim a serious violation of the law and issued a warning of strict legal action against anyone who did so.

Accused in police custody till 1 July

The students expelled from the college include the main accused ‘Manjit Mishra’, who worked as an adult faculty member in the college. Mishra was arrested along with college students and co-accused Jab Ahmed and Promit Mukherjee and has been sent on remand in police custody till July 1.

Following the meeting of the government body of the college under the chairmanship of Trinamool Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Deb, the college announced to terminate Mishra’s services and expel two students.

Show cause notice to college security agency

Deb told reporters, ‘It has been decided to abolish Mishra’s services and two other students will be expelled with immediate effect. A show cause notice will also be sent to the security agency appointed for the safety of the college campus.

This action has been taken by the college administration amid the increasing public anger over the alleged incident in the college campus, due to which there was a strong demand to improve the accountability and the security protocol in the campus. According to the Deputy Principal of the college, Mishra was appointed on a contract basis about 45 days ago.

Mishra was expelled out of college earlier also

The college records revealed that Mishra was a student of the institute earlier and was admitted in 2013. The same year, a young man was expelled from the institute on the charge of stabbing a young man on Chetla Bridge under Kalighat police station area. Mishra had disappeared from the reach of the police at that time, but in 2017 he came out again and re -enrolled in college, from where he passed in 2022. He was also associated with the Trinamool Congress Students’ Council (TMCP) and according to the alumni, he had a lot of dominance within the college.

Titus Manna, an alumni student of the institute, told the local news channel, ‘In December 2016, he was accused of leading a crowd of outsiders to vandalize the college campus. An FIR and counter FIR were lodged at the town police station in connection with the incident, but the cases were withdrawn for some unknown reason.

Legal violation to reveal the identity of the victim

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police issued a warning of strict legal action against any person who tried to reveal the identity of the victim student. The police described the revealing the identity of the rape victim as a serious violation of the law.

The consultation issued on Tuesday said, ‘It has come to notice that some people are trying to reveal the identity of the victim in the town case through the spread of confidential documents or other methods. This is a serious violation of the law.

Police shared a statement on social media

The Kolkata police warned that sharing directly or indirectly, sharing any material including documents, pictures or social media content, is punishable under the legal provisions related to the legal provisions.

The police statement uploaded on social media said, ‘Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found in such acts under the relevant provisions. People are strictly advised not to share any such information, which reveals the identity of the victim.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has targeted TMC and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on this matter. Pradeep Bhandari said on Sunday (June 29), “The state government led by Mamta Banerjee in West Bengal is not with the victim, but she is seen standing shoulder to shoulder with the accused.”

He said, “It seems that he is supporting the accused of rape in this case, who is the leader of his party Trinamool Congress. Apart from this, the West Bengal administration is also being accused of destroying evidence in this matter.”

TMC Conspiracy to divert attention from the case- Amit Malviya

At the same time, IT department head of Bharatiya Janata Party Amit Malviya has posted a post on social media platform X regarding this matter. Amit Malviya has described the quarrel between TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee and Mahua Moitra as a way to divert people’s attention from sexual harassment case in Kolkata.

He wrote in his post, “In an attempt to divert people’s attention, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Kalyan Banerjee is now attacking his own party’s female colleagues and MP Mahua Moitra. Even Banerjee is even humiliating him as a gold deger.”

Kolkata law college case: A medical examination of a 24 -year -old law student who was allegedly victim of rape on 25 June 2025 at a Law College in Kolkata has found several symptoms of physical attack. According to the NDTV report, scratch marks have been found on the victim’s neck and chest.

According to the report, doctors have not ruled out the possibility of sexual harassment until forensic confirmation. The victim was investigated at 10 pm on 26 June at the National Medical College, Kolkata. Three swab samples were taken during the process and sent for forensic examination. Urin pregnancy test report came negative.

SIT constituted to investigate rape case
An official said that a 5 -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kolkata Police under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Rank’s officer will investigate the alleged gang rape of the student.

The Kolkata Police on Saturday confirmed that a fourth person security guard posted at South Calcutta Law College has been arrested on the matter. According to the police, during interrogation, the guard was not able to answer the questions properly. The CCTV footage has seen the guard in the campus at the time of the incident.

What did the victim say in her statement?
In her statement to the police, the victim said that she was targeted soon after the meeting of Trinamool Students Council (TMCP), the student branch of the ruling party. According to him at around 7:30 pm, three persons surrounded him. He told that two people locked him in a room with the third, who tried to rape her.

The victim further said that despite folding her hands and protesting, she was forcibly taken off and raped, while others were guarding outside. The victim was told that if she told anyone about it, she, her lover and family would have to bear the brunt of it. According to the victim, during the attack on her, her head was stabbed with a hockey stick. He told that the accused left him at around 10:50 pm and then warned him to remain silent.
