What are the election results?

In the recently declared election results, counting is going on for 165 seats. Of these, Balen Shah’s RSP has won 55 seats. His party is leading on 66 seats. This party was formed four years ago by a journalist Rabi Lamichhane. Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is trailing Balen Shah by 43 thousand votes in Jhapa seat. Oli had won the elections from Jhapa-5 seat in 2017 and 2022.

Under which system are elections held in Nepal?

The electoral system in Nepal is mixed. Here members of Parliament are elected in two ways. Of these, one wins by direct election and the other by total votes received by the party. At present Nepal has completed the election process on the basis of party vote percentage. 110 seats in Nepal will be distributed on the basis of vote percentage received by the parties. Balen Shah has been the former mayor of Kathmandu. He was born on 27 April 1990 in Kathmandu. He has studied from VNIT Nagpur. He became the first independent mayor of Kathmandu in the year 2022. He is a professional hip-hop and rap music artist. During this period he has won many battles. He is quite famous among the youth of Nepal. He has raised social and political issues in rap.

General elections are going to be held in Nepal on 5 March 2026. This election is being considered very special because it is the first time that the country will vote after a major youth-led movement in September 2025. In that movement, there were demonstrations against corruption, unemployment and bad governance. 77 people were killed in these demonstrations and the government had to resign. After this the Parliament was dissolved and it was decided that elections would be held within six months.

At least 19 youth were killed in police firing during a protest against the Oli government in Kathmandu on September 8. 77 people lost their lives in the unrest that lasted for two days across the country. Bahadur Karki said the commission is working as per the plan to submit its final report within the extended deadline of January 21. ‘Violent elements hijacked the peaceful movement’

He blamed certain groups for hijacking the peaceful Zenji movement and turning the protests violent, leading to the death of many youth on September 8. He reiterated his claims while speaking to journalists after appearing before the Commission on Monday.

Many public properties were damaged in the movement

During the Gen-ji movement, many government institutions were vandalized and set on fire. These include buildings inside Singhadharbar, the main administrative center of the Government of Nepal, the Supreme Court, many government offices across the country, police posts, houses of political leaders and properties of many business companies. After the killing of protesters on the first day of the movement, these properties were targeted on the second day.

A high-level inquiry committee investigating the recent violence in Nepal recommended a travel ban on several former top officials including former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, which has been approved by the government.
