IMF on India’s GDP: At a time when the world’s economic growth is slowing down, India’s GDP is growing strongly. This has been approved by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said that at a time when many big economies of the world are facing challenges, India is playing an important role in global economic development.

During the annual meeting of IMF and World Bank held in Washington, Georgieva said that India’s strong economic policies and reformative steps have made it one of the fastest growing economies of the world.

The world recognized India’s iron power

Georgieva said that before the Corona epidemic, the global economy was expected to grow at the rate of 3.7 percent, but now it is limited to about 3 percent. He said that the last few years have seen a huge change in the global economic pace – while China’s economy slowed down, India’s has accelerated its pace. He further said that India has proved the doubters wrong on the basis of strong reforms and consistent policy efforts.

What does the latest estimate of IMF say?

According to the latest IMF estimates, India will remain the world’s fastest growing economy in the coming years. The organization says that India’s GDP can grow at the rate of 6.4 percent in the financial years 2025 and 2026.

IMF has increased India’s growth rate forecast. Earlier in the report released in April 2025, India’s growth rate was said to be 6.2 percent in 2025 and 6.3 percent in 2026 respectively. In comparison, China’s economy is projected to grow by 4.8 percent in 2025 and 4.2 percent in 2026.

Indian Economy Growth: Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), described India as the main growth engine of the global economy. His statement has come at a time when all the countries of the world are facing the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on April 2. Before the annual meeting of the IMF and the World Bank to be held in Washington next week, Georgieva said, the patterns of global growth have been changing for the last few years. During this period, China’s growth rate has declined, while India is emerging as a major growth engine.

Better performance of global economy

Speaking at the Milken Institute, Georgieva said the global economy is performing better than feared, but worse than we need. Due to better than expected performance of other emerging economies like America and India, the growth rate will not slow down much this year and next year. Citing the better monetary policy made by many countries, the flexibility of private sector companies and the limited impact of tariffs, Georgieva said, all these things are pointing towards a global economy, which has generally withstood the severe pressures of many shocks.

The global economy has proven resilient, performing better than many feared but still falling short. We must do more. Let’s work together to renew opportunities, repair public finances, & reduce global imbalances. The next generation is counting on us.
https://t.co/7vC8PYXG4j pic.twitter.com/QEnv2xVhR0

Economy stabilizes amid tariff pressure

Everything points to a global economy that has generally withstood severe pressures from multiple shocks. Till now all the countries of the world have been saved from doing tit-for-tat in the trade war. The IMF Chief’s statement has come at a time when America has decided to impose 50 percent tariff on the import of Indian goods. This has created a situation of global uncertainty.

Out of the 50 percent tariff, 25 percent is the penalty imposed on the purchase of oil from Russia. Georgieva says that although the consequences of the tariff have not been as serious as thought, its full impact is yet to be revealed. This year the global economy growth rate is expected to be 3 percent.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), crying about the economic situation of his country, appealed to the IMF managing director Christalina Georgree for mercy. The country, which always cry about the economic situation, has made an excuse for flood this time. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has urged the IMF to take into account the economic situation of his country before the review of the IMF on Thursday (September 25, 2025).

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), “Whatever commitments are being done with the Pakistan International Monetary Fund (IMF), continuously fulfilling them, but IMF is urged to take care of the damage caused by the recent floods in his upcoming review.”

UNGA Shahbaz Sharif commented during the 80th session

Shahbaz Sharif made this comment during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The 7 billion bailout package given by the IMF i.e. Expended Fund Facility (EFF) is to be reviewed on Thursday (September 25, 2025). The fund was approved in May 2025. This review will assess Pakistan’s performance for the 2025 March-June quarter.

There was a second review about this in August, but Pakistan had failed to achieve three targets. The Finance Ministry had stated in its financial report that no provincial government could achieve the target of savings of 1.2 trillion Pakistani rupees. At the same time, Pakistan’s total fiscal deficit was 5.4 percent (6.2 trillion rupees) of GDP, below the target of 5.9 percent of the IMF.

Imf 50 conditions were placed in front of Pakistan for bailout package

The IMF laid around 50 conditions under the Bellout Package, some of which are reviewed on quarterly and annual basis and the approval of the next $ 1 billion installment to Pakistan depends on these.

A report by Pakistan’s brokerage house topline securities claimed that Pakistan is on the way to fulfill all the seven quantitative performance norms (QPC) set by the IMF.

Pakistan’s Information Department issued a statement

According to Pakistan’s leading media group Dawn, the Pakistani Information Department (PID) issued a statement after a meeting between Prime Minister Shahbaz and Georgiya. It said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif urged in the meeting that it would be better if IMF reviews the impact on Pakistan’s economy due to the recent floods. According to PID, Georgiya expressed her condolences to all those affected by the floods.

Imf on us tarifs: The International Monetary Fund, ie the IMF, has given a big statement amidst the stir and increasing trade tension in the international market due to Trump tariff. IMF director Christalina Georgree, said on Thursday that both America and China have commercial concerns. But the two economic superpower of the world should remove this uncertainties. Also, should agree on rules based and fair trade.

Speaking during an event in Washington just before the IMF and World Bank meeting the next week, Georgiya welcomed India’s steps to remove the obstacles of tariffs. On the conversation with Trump on the tariff, he said that anywhere there is a tariff, his rates should be reduced.

However, the tariffs imposed on his business partner countries on behalf of President Trump continued to avoid the tariffs against this move and said that it would have a negative effect. Georgya said, “In some places this feeling of injustice matches the statement that ‘we play according to the rules while others use the system without any punishment.” He further said that this “trade imbalance increases business stress”.

The IMF director said that the US has complaints about things related to China’s intellectual property and non-tariff barriers. On the other hand, China seeks such cooperation with the US that both economies can get into a strong position.

Georgeeva further said that we want to see uncertainty finished. But as long as there is tension between the world’s two economic axis, it is difficult. In fact, it is important and top of these that there should be fair and rules based arrangements. The IMF Chief said that it was not easy for India to reduce tariffs and remove business obstacles, but it is doing so. He further said that this step will prove to be very helpful about the economic speed of the country.
