Gitanjali Angamo, wife of jailed climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, since the violence in Ladakh, has written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday (October 01, 2025). Gitanjali has also sent copies of this letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

In the letter, he has dismissed the allegations made against Sonam Wangchuk, demanding unconditional release. Wangchuk’s wife said that on September 26, Leh Inspector Rigjin Gurmet informed him that Wangchuk was detained under Section 3 (2) of NSA and sent to Jodhpur Central Jail.

Ladakh is loyal to its nationalism and Indian Army

He wrote in the letter, ‘I was assured that after reaching Jodhpur, he would call me and talk to my husband. He also told me that this is not arrest, because no FIR has been registered, but they are in custody under NSA.

Gitanjali Angamo said that however, till date no talk has been made to Sonam Wangchuk. Wangchuk’s wife further said that Ladakh is known for his nationalism and loyalty to the Indian Army. He further said that Wangchuk is making shelter for the Indian Army in this region.

Wife Gitanjali’s question to Sarkar

Angmo wrote, ‘My husband Sonam Wangchuk has always been in favor of India’s solidarity, strengthening our borders and a strong democratic system.’ He raised the question whether it is a crime in Ladakh to fight for the interests of the people. Wangchuk’s wife said, ‘His Majesty, you will be better than the feelings of the people of Leh Ladakh, being from a tribal background.’

During this, Geetanjali Angmo has also asked four questions to President Murmu. She has asked if she has the right to meet Wangchuk on the phone and personally, can she help her husband, know about the reasons for her arrest and their legal rights, can she know the position of her husband and whether he is responsible citizens of India, she has the right to peaceful expression and freedom of traffic.

Demand for release of Sonam Wangchuk

Angmo also condemned the behavior done by the government and agencies. He wrote, ‘This is a violation of the spirit of the Constitution of India. Article 21 and 22 give every citizen fundamental rights of legal representation. Surprisingly, we have been completely denied this minimum right.

Wangchuk’s wife further said, ‘His Majesty, we appeal to intervene as the head of the state and raise the voice of Vivek in this chaotic situation. As the President of India, you are a symbol of the principles of equality, justice and discretion. He demanded the unconditional release of Sonam Wangchuk, saying that he can never become a threat to his nation.

The central government on Thursday (25 September 2025) canceled the FCRA registration of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s NGO. His NGOs are accused of repeatedly violating the law related to foreign funding. The CBI has started an investigation against foreign funding against an institute in Sonam Wangchuk. On this, Sonam Wangchuk said that the Ministry of Home Affairs blames a small person. He said that going to jail will awaken the youth.

I was targeted: Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk said, “Elections are going to come in Ladakh after two months, in which people are asking that the promise made earlier. I had a big voice in it, so they targeted me and one and a half months ago I was told that there is an FIR of treason on you. After this, there was talk of investigation of CBI.”

We did not take FCRA: Wangchuk

Wangchuk said, “It is written in the CBI notice that in 2022-24 your organization got funds from abroad, which you do not have permission. You do not have FCRA. Got money from a university in Switzerland and a organization in Italy. “

‘After the violence, all the blame was put on Sonam Wangchuk’

He said, “We are getting summon from income tax. They do not know that Ladakh does not pay any tax in the region. Then a man pays tax here, he is here because I understand their responsibilities. How many people are there in India, who are in India without asking income tax, yet we have summons of IT. All this happened like a link.

PDP Chief Mahuba Mufti once again reacted to the violence on the demand of the state in Leh, Ladakh. On Thursday (25 September), he said that if the BJP government continues to deal with Ladakh in this way, then a big danger can be in the coming time. He said that what happened in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir has been converted into an open jail. You cannot talk here. We all saw what happened in Ladakh. But if someone talks in Jammu and Kashmir, then PSA and UAPA put them in jail.

Central government policy is wrong- Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti said, “Why Ladakh is burning. Because the policy of the central government is wrong. This is the result of the beginning after 2019. Ladakh is a border state. China is occupied by more than 5000 square meters. Similarly, if the BJP government continues to deal with Ladakh, then there can be a big danger in the coming time.”

People of Ladakh are peace loving- Mufti

PDP Chief said that the people of Ladakh are peace loving. But in 2019, our special status was abolished illegally, then there was a wave of happiness among the people of Ladakh that we got the union territory on this pretext. People thought that we would get more rights first but it was completely reverse.

Mehbooba Mufti said, “The people of Ladakh feel that we were more safe if we were with Jammu and Kashmir. The atmosphere of Ladakh is very sensitive. The land is very low. The land is very low. A large part of the land is near the army. The remaining land is eyeing the big businessmen. Big businessmen are noticed. The National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has received a big statement on violence erupted in Leh, Ladakh. Farooq Abdullah supported the Ladakh violence through a press conference. He said, “The people of Ladakh are fighting for their statehood. Earlier they had raised their point peacefully but when no promises were made to him, they left Gandhi’s path and chose the path of movement.”

Farooq Abdullah further said, “People set fire to BJP’s office in Leh. I set the police vehicles on fire. I will ask the rule of India that our state is from the border of China and Pakistan. You do not provoke the spark here. You do not wait to make a spark again and this kingdom gets burnt again.”

‘No foreign forces, this voice of the people of Ladakh’

NC chief Farooq Abdullah said about the Ladakh violence, “Some people are saying that violence is happening here due to foreign forces. I want to tell that there is nothing like that. It is the voice of the people here. Those who are doing wrong with our state, they will have to learn from Ladakh.”

Supporting the agitators of Leh, Farooq Abdullah said, “Now the youth here have decided to know but our state should not go. The National Conference has always chosen the path of peace and Gandhi, but what our children will do cannot be said. It cannot be said. Such issues should be talked about solving, not to confuse it.”

‘We are with all children’- Farooq Abdullah

He further said, “What is happening in Ladakh, we are with all those children. What is happening in Ladakh is happening due to the leaders sitting in Delhi. They should wake up. Otherwise it will be too late.”

When Farooq Abdullah was asked whether China has captured India’s land? In response, the NC chief said, “If not occupied, then why do the BJP people say that we have to take back? We are not able to do petroling there.”

When Ladakh was separated from Jammu and Kashmir and made a union territory in 2019, a lot of celebration was celebrated here. At that time, the local people said that their decades -old demand has been fulfilled. The people of Ladakh used to complain that they could not get enough funds from Jammu and Kashmir. Now the situation has changed. Local people say that even though they have separated from Jammu and Kashmir, they do not have the same participation in the administration as they want.

Local people now say that instead of rule from Srinagar or Jammu, the command is now in the hands of Delhi, so there should be assembly and Ladakh should get state status. Also, the region should be included in the sixth schedule of the Constitution, so that the language-culture of Ladakis can be protected. In the latest violence in Ladakh, the miscreants attacked the BJP office and set a police van on fire. Many people including Sonam Wangchuk are on hunger strike. A bandh is organized all over Ladakh.

Leh kargil democratic alliance
Usually, there is amazing unity between Kargil and Leh, who has different opinions. Kargil has a plurality of Shia Muslims, besides Leh is considered a Buddhist capital but this time the two are together and they have formed an organization called Leh Kargil Democratic Alliance to demand the state.

People met Shah
Local people say that for three years, protests have been increasing here against the direct government of the central government. Local people are constantly saying that our culture, land, resources should be protected and local government is necessary for this. The Modi government at the Center formed a committee only on these demands. This committee had held several meetings, but no result was found. In March this year, Amit Shah met a delegation from Ladakh, but the conversation could not move forward. Local people said that this happened because Amit Shah rejected our main demands.
