The controversy regarding constitutional amendment is continuously increasing in Pakistan. The judiciary of the country is openly protesting against the 27th amendment of the Constitution. In this series, on Saturday (November 15, 2025), senior judge of Lahore High Court, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza resigned. Justice Mirza’s tenure in the Lahore High Court was till 2028, but he resigned from his post, calling the 27th Amendment an attack on the Constitution and the judiciary and dangerous for the justice system of the country.

This move by Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza, senior judge of Lahore High Court, is being seen as a historic turning point in the justice system of Pakistan, as it is the first time in the history of the country that a High Court judge has resigned in protest against an amendment to the country’s constitution.

Senior judges of the Supreme Court also resigned

At the same time, before the resignation of Justice Shams, two senior judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Meenallah, also resigned against this amendment, calling it an attack on the Constitution and the judiciary.

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is being accused of this entire controversy. Munir is being accused of trying to capture the Constitution of Pakistan by making constitutional changes.

What is the dispute about?,

The reason behind such a big controversy in Pakistan is the 27th Constitutional Amendment, under which a new Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has been established in the country. According to the amendment, now the FCC will hear all major cases related to the Constitution in the country and the existing Supreme Court has been limited to only civil and criminal cases. In such a situation, the judges of Pakistan say that due to this amendment, the Supreme Court will be snatched away from its first place status and will be placed in the second line.

Imran Khan Pakistan: A Pakistan court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions requesting bail after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in eight terrorism cases related to the riots of May 9.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has several cases registered in Lahore in connection with the violence of May 9, 2023, including allegations of abusing their supporters to attack government and military buildings. The violence erupted after Imran’s arrest by paramilitary Rangers from Islamabad High Court premises.

A court official told the news agency PTI, “The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed all the bail petitions filed by Imran Khan in relation to eight cases related to the cases of May 9, 2023, including attacks and arson incidents on Jinnah House/Lahore Core Commander House.”

Eight cases against Imran Khan

A two-member bench of LHC headed by Justice Shahbaz Rizvi ruled on the bail petitions filed by Khan in eight cases.

The bench reserved its decision on Monday after completing the hearing. These eight cases include Jinnah House attack, Askari Tower Attack, arson in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PTI-N) office, setting fire to Shadman police station, burning police vehicles near Jinnah House and arson on Sherpao police.

Imran Khan will file a petition in Supreme Court

The anti-terrorism court of Lahore had earlier rejected Khan’s bail plea in these cases, after which he challenged the decision in LHC. A lawyer of Khan said that he would challenge the decision of the Lahore High Court in the Supreme Court. Khan has been in jail for almost two years in many cases.

Apart from this, his party alleged on Tuesday that Khan has been kept in solitude imprisonment and his cell had been cut off. Senior PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari said in a post on ‘X’, “Imran Khan has been isolated, he is not being given basic facilities which he is legally entitled.”

A court in Pakistan has sentenced two people to death by settling the murder case within a year. Here, her father and brother have been sentenced to death for the crime of killing a woman. Both have also been fined Rs 1 crore. He killed the woman and buried her secretly, but when the video of the incident went viral, the body was removed from the grave and post -mortem was done.

According to The Dawn report, Sessions Court Judge Justice Abdul Hafiz Bhutta sentenced Mohammad Faisal and Abdul power to death under section 302 (b) of Pakistan Penal Code. The court said that they should hang them until they get their strength. The judge has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on both, which will be charged as revenue from their land.

The court said in its judgment that first both will be sent to jail for six months. Then he will be transferred to the district jail and after that he will send the case to the Lahore High Court to confirm the death sentence. The court finally said that the convict can appeal against the punishment within 30 days.

What is the matter?
This is the case of Toba Tek Singh’s Czech-477 JB Alaul. The case came to light on March 28, 2024 when a video of the incident went viral. The whole country was in anger with this video. According to the report, on March 17, 2024, Maria Bibi’s father Abdul Sattar and brother Faisal strangled him to death. Initially Faisal had said in his statement in front of the police that he had raped his sister and killed Maria Bibi for hiding this incesting relationship and honoring the family, in which her father also supported her. However, there was no talk of rape or pregnancy with Maria in the post -mortem.

The family quietly buried Maria’s body after the murder, but the entire incident was stolen by Maria’s second brother Shahbaz on camera. However, the police arrested Shahbaz and his wife Sumaira for not telling about the murder. Shahbaz and Sumaira had told the police that Maria had told both of them a day before the incident that her father and brother had raped her. However, the court has removed all the charges against him.
