PG and Flats Rent in Delhi: Every year Delhi invites lakhs of youth with their dreams. Some come to study, some to look for a job and some to start their career. But after coming to Delhi, the first reality one faces is the rising expenses here.

ABP News spoke to students and employed youth living in PG and flats in areas like Jamia Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Malviya Nagar and Saket of Delhi. It was revealed in the conversation that the cost of living in Delhi is not limited to just rent, but every month many small and big expenses put together have a big impact on the pocket.

Rent flat available for Rs 25 thousand

The rent for a double sharing PG in Delhi is usually between Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000, while for a single room PG you may have to spend Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,000. At the same time, if a youth wants to live in a flat, then he may have to pay Rs 10,000 to Rs 16,000 as rent for a 1RK flat and Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 for a 1BHK flat.

A student from Bihar living in Jamia Nagar said, while leaving home, it seemed that in Delhi one can easily get by with Rs 10-12 thousand, but after coming here, I realized that rent is the biggest expense.

How much are students spending on food?

After rent, the biggest expense is food. The expenses of students whose PG includes food are slightly less. But youth living in flats or rooms have to spend Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 every month on food. If food is ordered online, this expense increases further.

Delhi Metro is a part of the lives of millions of people. Youngsters who travel daily for college, office and internship spend around Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 every month on Metro. If there is more use of autos and e-rickshaws then this amount increases further.

Mobile and internet also included in essential expenses

In today’s time, mobile and internet are also included in the essential expenses. 250 to 400 rupees are spent on mobile recharge and 500 to 800 rupees are spent on Wi-Fi or internet. That means Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 are required every month only for mobile and internet.

If a youth lives in a flat, he has to spend separately for electricity bill, cleaning, washing clothes and other needs. Around Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 can be spent on all this every month. If all these expenses are added, then the average monthly expenditure of a student or employed youth living in Delhi reaches between Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000.

Income is eighty rupees, expenditure is rupees!

The starting salary of many youth working in Delhi is between Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000. In such a situation, if someone’s salary is Rs 30,000 and his monthly expenses reach Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,000, then he is barely left with Rs 5,000 to 8,000 in the name of savings. If you have to go home in a month, have sudden medical expenses or some other need arises, then this savings also gets wiped out.

Delhi is a city of opportunities, but it is also a city of expenses. Thousands of youth coming here come with dreams of a better future and career, but the biggest challenge before them is not only getting a job but also managing themselves financially amid rising expenses.

Perhaps this is the reason why for many youth living in Delhi, the first day of the month brings relief and the last week of the month is spent in calculating the expenses. The mathematics of living in Delhi is not just about money, but also about dreams, struggles and compromises.
