Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi has been continuously making big revelations. Now Modi says that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim had tried to kill him. Let us tell you that Lalit Modi left India in 2010 and is now living in London.

While talking to news agency ANI, Lalit Modi told that this matter dates back to the year 2012, when a fixer in London contacted him. It was 3:30 in the morning, when this so-called fixer pressured Lalit Modi to go and meet a middleman named ‘Baba’ at his apartment.

Talk to Dawood Ibrahim on phone

After reaching Modi’s apartment, this middleman dialed a number from the satellite phone on which Dawood Ibrahim was on the other end. The phone was on speaker and a voice came from the front, ‘All your work is over from now on.’ And then the call got disconnected.

The former founder of IPL said that after this incident, the middleman would repeatedly contact him and demand money. He says that the underworld wants to take control of IPL. Dawood Ibrahim’s gang (D-Company Syndicate) said that Lalit Modi owed them money, because due to Modi’s administrative decisions they had to suffer huge losses in the betting markets.

Why did you leave cricket?

When Lalit Modi was asked whether he left cricket administration due to the influence of Dawood Ibrahim. In response to this, Modi said that this was one of the main reasons for his moving away from cricket.

Lalit Modi also revealed that when the IPL was held in South Africa due to the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in India, there was an earthquake in the betting market. According to Modi, most of the people did not think that the tournament would be shifted to another country, so they had bet a lot of money. When the tournament was suddenly shifted to South Africa, bookies suffered huge losses. Therefore D-Company wanted to recover it from them.

carried out a deadly attack

Lalit Modi told that after he rejected the offer of crores of rupees received by the mafia, Dawood Ibrahim had carried out 3 fatal attacks on him. Even his son was kidnapped, which was carried out by a person named Baba Avin.

Lalit Modi, who started IPL i.e. Indian Premier League, is entangled in many legal cases in India. But he claims himself innocent. In a recent interview, he said that he will not change his lifestyle for anyone and he spends Rs 10-12 crores a week. During this interview he also told from where he earns money.

While talking to ANI, Lalit Modi said, ‘I did not do anything wrong… I told you that I was born with a diamond spoon. When you accuse me of taking a few crores of rupees, I tell you that I earn more than that in a day. We are the biggest… the company is very big in the world. Its market value is Rs 2.5 lakh crore.

Lalit Modi also said in the interview that he earns money through family business and other initiatives. He said, ‘I am part of it. I am a business owner. I have gifted it to my children. My children own it. My children bear my expenses. I live in a very beautiful house. I am living the most wonderful life.

He further said in the conversation that ‘I go everywhere. How do you think I do this? why the hell? I take Rs 10-12 crores… it doesn’t last even a week… it is like that. I was born with it. Why should I change my lifestyle for anyone? Why did I start living my life for someone else? My grandfather didn’t do this. My father did not live for anyone else.

During all this, Modi was also questioned about fugitive Vijay Mallya. He said, ‘He is my friend. Vijay’s story is different. Ok? I don’t know what his problem is. But his case was related to banks and things like that. Look, we never borrowed from anyone. I never took money from anyone. I had no money to take from anyone. I have just given the money, just paid. There is no bank loan or anything like that in any of our businesses, nor do we have any government contracts. We are a consumer brand. We are the biggest brand in the world. We make Marlboro. This is the number one brand in the world.

Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi has given a big statement regarding match fixing in cricket. He believes that problems like corruption and fixing still exist in the game, although he did not make any direct allegations on the Indian Premier League. According to him, IPL gives such a big platform and financial security to the players that they would not want to risk their career.

During a conversation in Wisden Cricket’s podcast ‘The Scoop’, Lalit Modi was asked whether fixing still happens in IPL? In response to this he said that the nature of corruption in sports has become quite complex with time. Modi said that the problem of fixing in cricket has not completely ended and it is now present in a more developed form than before.

However, he clarified that he has no knowledge of fixing in IPL. He said, ‘I don’t think this is happening in IPL, but I can’t say anything for sure because I don’t have any information about it. Nevertheless, I believe that this problem exists in some form or the other in sports around the world.

Lalit Modi further said that every sport has its own challenges and problems. He stressed that his statement should not be misrepresented as he was only saying what he was aware of. He reiterated that he cannot make any concrete claims regarding IPL, because he does not have any evidence or information in this regard.

According to the information, fixing was not allowed in the first three years of IPL, due to which the underworld and betting networks were angry. The decision to move IPL-2 to South Africa caused huge losses to bookmakers as they had placed big bets on the IPL not happening.

Lalit Modi’s recent statement given during a podcast has gone viral. He told that before the start of T20 World Cup 2007, he had gone to the dressing room of the Indian team and appealed to the senior players to participate in the tournament. However, the players did not take this format seriously and refused to play. Today the situation is such that the popularity of T20 cricket seems to be overshadowing even Test and ODI cricket.

Before the T20 World Cup 2007, the Indian team was on a tour of England, where it had to play a series of three Tests and seven ODIs. Immediately after this tour which ran from 19 July to 8 September, the T20 World Cup was to be organized in South Africa from 11 September. Experienced players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were part of the team on the England tour, but many young players got a chance in the team selected for the T20 World Cup. This team, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, included players like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan.

In an interview to ANI, Lalit Modi said, “When the Indian team was on the England tour in 2007, I met every player in the dressing room. I appealed to them to play T20. They said, ‘Lalit, are you kidding? What kind of game is this? We don’t want to play it.’ This was the reaction of almost all the players. He said that the tour has been very long and he wants to spend time with his family.”

He further said, “If any player does not play the World Cup today, a big controversy will arise. Fans, players and administrators will not accept it.” According to Lalit Modi, BCCI did not send its most experienced team in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The board expressed confidence in the young players under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and gave a chance to a new team.

Also read- Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s craze increased, now India A series will also be telecast LIVE, know where you can watch it

He said, “BCCI did not send its main team to South Africa for the T20 World Cup at that time. The board prepared a new team and handed over its command to Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was a completely new and young team. Veteran players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly did not participate in that tournament.”

Also read- IPL 2026: Sachin Tendulkar angry with powerplay rules, gave unique suggestion to change them

Raising the question, Modi said, “Will anyone accept such a decision in today’s times? If the Indian team goes to a World Cup and another team is sent in place of key players, will the fans accept it? Will the board take such a decision? Probably not.”

Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi has made a surprising prediction. Before the start of IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals franchise was sold for US $ 1.63 billion. Whereas RCB was sold for even more, 1.78 billion US dollars. These figures are proof that IPL has indeed become one of the richest cricket leagues in the world. Now IPL founder Lalit Modi says that by the year 2030, a player will start earning Rs 150 crore.

$100 million team purse

Currently the purse of the teams in IPL is Rs 125 crore. This means that any one team can spend Rs 125 crore (about 15 million dollars) to prepare a squad of maximum 25 players. Lalit Modi believes that after the next five years the purse of the teams will have reached 100 million dollars. This amount is more than Rs 930 crore. If Modi’s prediction turns out to be true then the team purse would have increased more than 7 times.

Earning of one player is Rs 150 crore

Currently, the most expensive player of the Indian Premier League is Rishabh Pant, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025. At second place is Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who is getting Rs 26.75 crore.

On Michael Vaughan’s The Overlap podcast, Lalit Modi says that in just 5 years the bids placed on players would have increased more than 5 times. He says that by 2030, a player will be able to earn Rs 130-150 crore from IPL contract. He has given this amount for the top 3-4 players in each team.

According to media reports, IPL has become the second largest league in the world in terms of brand value. Only the NFL (National Football League) played in America is ahead of it. IPL has left behind iconic leagues like NBA, MLB.

A social media post by Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi has become a matter of debate. Lalit Modi has targeted the owners of IPL teams after the video of the on-field conversation between Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka and team captain Rishabh Pant went viral.

Let us remind you that on Wednesday, Lucknow Super Giants had to face a crushing defeat by 6 wickets at the hands of Delhi Capitals on their own home ground. After that defeat, Sanjeev Goenka was seen talking to LSG captain Rishabh Pant and coach Justin Langer. No audio of the conversation has been revealed, but the atmosphere during the conversation did not seem pleasant at all. Meanwhile, that video also went viral, when pictures of Sanjeev Goenka and KL Rahul were revealed during the 2024 season.

IPL team owner just headline

Lalit Modi made a post on social media and wrote that the owners of the teams in the football league look at their players with respect and show confidence in them, but the owners of the IPL teams just try to remain in the news and headlines. According to Lalit Modi, he stands right on the boundary and criticizes his captains.

Lalit Modi said that if the team owners adopt a patient behavior and also talk in a more professional manner, then the value of IPL can increase like football leagues. Lalit also said that it would be better if we try to build a brand by reducing the drama. He said that the Indian Premier League has already become the center of discussion because Rajasthan Royals has been sold for 1.53 billion US dollars and Royal Challengers Bangalore for 1.78 billion US dollars. According to Lalit Modi, if professionalism is seen in IPL too, it will have a different class.

A tweet by Lalit Modi has once again brought the historic 2008 IPL auction into the limelight. While sharing the statistics of that period, he told how teams worth billions today were once bought at very low prices.

24 January 2008: When the journey of IPL began

The bid for the Indian Premier League franchise was held on 24 January 2008 at 12 noon at the Cricket Center in Mumbai. In this, companies and investors participated and presented their respective bids for different cities. At that time, the biggest bid for the Mumbai team was about $111.9 million. At the same time, franchises for other cities like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad were also purchased for crores of dollars.

If we look at it from dollars to rupees, the picture is more interesting.

Lalit Modi especially emphasized in his tweet that on that day the price of 1 dollar was around 40 rupees. That is, the amount which seemed big at that time, was quite small as of today. If compared with today’s value, the value of these teams has increased manifold. This is the reason why IPL is now counted among the most successful sports leagues in the world.

payment in 10 years

It was also told in the tweet that the money for the purchase of the teams was not given all at once. It had to be repaid in equal parts over 10 years. This reduced the initial pressure on the franchise owners. Not only this, many teams had started earning profits from the very first year. His earnings from ticket sales, sponsorship and TV rights increased rapidly.

Big names, big stakes

Many big names were involved in this auction. Mukesh Ambani-linked Reliance Group bought the Mumbai team, while Shahrukh Khan’s company Red Chillies had bet on the Kolkata team. Preity Zinta was also involved in the bid for Punjab team. There were some companies which bid for many cities but could not win.

Today’s value is many times higher

According to Lalit Modi, the real value increase can be estimated from today’s figures. Although the exact investment and profit figures are available only in the official filings of the companies, it is clear that this investment proved to be extremely profitable over time.

Record breaking deals changed the picture in 2026

In March 2026, the valuation of IPL created a new record. Recently the RCB team was sold for around $1.78 billion (Rs 16,706 crore), while the price of RR was $1.63 billion (Rs 15,286 crore). These deals have shown that IPL is no longer just cricket but has become a huge global business.

An auction held in England’s franchise league The Hundred has created a big controversy. There is a strong reaction on social media after Sunrisers Group team bought Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed. Now former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi has also jumped into this whole issue and has given an open message to team owner Kavya Maran.

What is the whole controversy?

According to reports, Sunrisers Leeds bought Abrar Ahmed for around 1.9 lakh pounds (about Rs 2.34 crore) in The Hundred auction. After this, a section of Indian cricket fans started raising questions on this decision. Actually, Pakistani players have not been able to participate in IPL since 2008. In such a situation, Indian franchises have generally been seen maintaining distance from Pakistani players even in foreign leagues.

Lalit Modi’s taunt

Amidst this controversy, former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi has written a sharp message on social media regarding Sunrisers owner Kavya Maran. Without taking any name, he said that when the fans are already angry, then spending such a huge amount on a Pakistani player does not seem like the right decision. He also wrote, “I know how to handle brand and image, you can talk to me if needed.” His statement has gone viral on social media and different reactions are emerging on it.

Ruckus on social media

After this decision of Sunrisers, a lot of debate has erupted on social media. Some people called it right from the sporting point of view, while many users called it a wrong step. Even the news of the team’s social media account being suspended for some time came to light.

The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan became the reason

A major reason for this entire controversy is the long-running political and cricketing tension between India and Pakistan. The entry of Pakistani players in IPL has been banned since 2008 and this issue always remains sensitive. At present, no major official statement has come from Sunrisers on this controversy, but it is clear that this decision has once again brought old issues of cricket and politics into discussion.

Lalit Modi, former chairman of the Indian Premier League, wants to buy the Rajasthan Royals franchise. Last year, Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale had confirmed the sale of the team and in January 2026, a bid of US $ 1.3 billion was placed on the RR team. This bid was placed yesterday by Somani, who has been a shareholder in the Rajasthan Royals franchise since 2021.

According to Khel Now, Lalit Modi has formed an association with Somani yesterday. It is being told that Modi and Somani are going to meet all the officials related to the sale of the team on March 16. Let us tell you that after Modi was found guilty of misbehavior, indiscipline and financial irregularities, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had banned him for life.

The Rain Group is overseeing the entire process of sale of Rajasthan Royals team. According to the report, the last date for the sale of RR team has already been fixed as 31st March. Let us also tell you that apart from Modi and Somani, many people have also shown interest in buying the Rajasthan team.

Who showed interest in buying RR?

Aditya Birla Group and David Blitzer have come together and shown interest in purchasing the Rajasthan Royals team. Times Internet Chairman Satyan Gajwani and his partner, Adar Poonawala and his partner, Lalit Modi and Kal Somani, all these people have shown interest in buying the RR team.

Who are the shareholders in RR now?

At present, if we talk about the owners of Rajasthan Royals team, currently 65 percent stake is with Manoj Badale. Red Bird Capital Partners holds 15 percent, Lachlan Murdoch holds 13 percent and the remaining 7 percent is divided among other shareholders.
