According to the CBI, in exchange for these tenders, valuable land in Patna was deposited with the Lalu family, which was allegedly transferred at non-market rates. This investigation started in the year 2017 when CBI had registered the FIR in the case and later prepared the chargesheet.

What are the chances of Tejashwi Yadav contesting the elections?

The answer is yes, because right now only charges have been framed against Tejashwi Yadav and not punishment. According to Indian law, he can contest elections unless he is sentenced by a court and if the sentence is two years or more. Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, under which a person can be deprived of the right to be elected or contest elections only if he is convicted of a serious crime and sentenced to death.

Therefore, Tejashwi Yadav’s eligibility to contest the elections still remains. However, if the court finds them guilty and imposes the maximum sentence, they may be temporarily or permanently disqualified.
