Petrol and Diesel may soon become much cheaper, because the big estimate of Global Bank JP Morgan has come out. According to the bank, in the next three years the world supply of oil is going to exceed its demand. For this reason, there will be excess Brent Crude Oil in the market, due to which its prices may fall by 50% to around $30 by the end of FY 2027. This estimate has come at a time when India is the second largest oil importer in the world. The Indian economy will directly benefit from the huge fall in prices. India’s crude oil import bill in the year 2024 is more than ₹12 lakh crore. If Brent Crude comes to $30, India can get huge savings of about ₹6 lakh crore. The biggest reason for this Demand-Supply imbalance is the strong production capacity of Non-OPEC+ countries. By 2027, almost half of the new supply coming to the market will be from outside OPEC+ countries. Due to this, global inventories are filling up rapidly. This year the world’s oil stock has increased at the rate of 1.5 million barrels per day, of which about 1 million barrels are stored in ships and China’s reserves. If Brent Crude falls to $30, India, the government and the common man will get huge benefits.

India’s big energy company Reliance Industries (RIL) has been accused of stealing gas from ONGC, which is worth about $1.55 billion. Bombay High Court has issued a notice in this case and is considering directing the CBI to conduct a complete investigation. According to the petition, from 2004 to 2013-14, RIL drilled in the KG-D6 block in such a way that gas moved sideways from ONGC’s Northern Block to RIL’s block. The estimated loss is ₹13,000–14,000 crore, plus interest of $174.9 million. Petitioners want criminal charges of theft, fraud and breach of trust to be imposed on RIL and its directors. RIL says that gas is naturally migratory and this is not a new criminal case, but an old civil-arbitration dispute. Energy consultancy D&M also said that gas extraction had taken place, but there is disagreement on the legal interpretation. The court notice does not decide whether RIL is guilty. This is just the initial step—the Court is asking: – Should the CBI conduct a full investigation? – Should FIR be registered? – Should contracts and drilling data be seized? If CBI investigation starts, it can become a big precedent for Corporate India. Market sentiment, RIL shares and policy-making may also be affected.

Adani Group of the country’s veteran businessman Gautam Adani has announced a historic investment of more than Rs 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh and Assam in the next decade. At an investors’ conference held in Andhra Pradesh, the group presented the $15 billion vision of Vizag tech park, which will be based on a hyperscale data center ecosystem in partnership with Google and will be entirely powered by green energy. Adani Group has already invested ₹40,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, and now the group aims to make the state a launchpad for India’s next decade of transformation. Also, Adani Power and Adani Green are going to invest ₹63,000 crore in Assam. It includes the Northeast’s largest coal-fired private power plant and a new pumped-storage hydro power project. This investment plan will strengthen Adani Group’s hold in South India and Northeast and will give a new direction to the country’s infra, power and technology sectors.
