AIBE 2026 Exam: This time the number of candidates passing the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) has decreased for the third consecutive year. According to the results of June 2026 session, out of about 1.75 lakh candidates, only 1,15,805 candidates could pass. That means this time the total pass percentage was 65.92 percent. The special thing is that this result has come when the monitoring committee had decided to give relief of three marks in the cutoff for all the categories. Had this relief not been given, the pass percentage could have been even lower.

Difficulties increased due to change in question pattern

According to law experts, there has been a continuous change in the way questions are asked in the All India Bar Examination for the last few years. Whereas earlier questions based directly on facts were asked, now the number of case based, logical and analytical questions has increased. This time questions like assertion reasoning, correct sequence, matching and choosing the wrong option were included in the exam. The purpose of which was not only to test the information but also to test the legal understanding and decision making ability of the candidate. Due to this change many candidates could not perform as expected.

New criminal laws also become a problem

AIBE XXI was the first examination session in which questions related to Indian Judicial Code (BNS), Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS) and Indian Evidence Act (BSA) were mainly included. Earlier, candidates were only informed that questions would be asked from both the old and new laws. However, many candidates had prepared on the basis of old study material. In such a situation, due to change in streams and serial numbers of new schools, they had to face difficulty during the examination.

Even after having open book exam, time is the biggest problem.

AIBE is an open book examination in which candidates can take Bare Acts with them to the examination centre. Despite this, experts believe that this time the biggest problem was time management. 3 hours 30 minutes are given to solve 100 questions in the exam, that is, on an average, a little more than 2 minutes is given for each question. In such a situation, the candidates who depended on Bare Acts to find every answer, lost a lot of their time in this process. Whereas the candidates who had prepared well in advance were successful in saving time by finding the necessary provisions quickly.

Relief of three marks given in cut off

Before declaring the results, the monitoring committee had decided to give relief of three marks to all categories of candidates. After this, the minimum passing marks for General and OBC categories were reduced from 45 to 42, while for SC, ST and Disabled candidates the cutoff was reduced from 40 to 37. Only after this the final results were released.

Out of 1.75 lakh candidates, 1.15 lakh were successful.

According to the data of Bar Council of India (BCI), a total of 1,75,701 candidates appeared in the examination this time. Of these, one lakh 1,15,805 candidates were successful, while 59,876 candidates could not pass the examination. A total of 20 cases of use of unfair means were also registered during the examination.
