Tech Layoffs: A big change is currently being seen in the world’s biggest tech companies. More than 1 lakh tech workers have lost their jobs in just the first five months of 2026. Facebook’s parent company Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco and many other companies have laid off employees on a large scale. According to media reports, companies are downsizing their workforce to reduce costs and increase investment in Artificial Intelligence.

Why are layoffs happening?
There are many big reasons behind the retrenchment. The first reason is the rapidly increasing use of AI technology. Companies now want to get many such tasks done through AI and automation, which earlier required human employees. The second reason is excessive recruitment during the Covid pandemic. At that time, when the demand for digital services increased, companies had hired employees on a large scale, but now they are balancing their expenses.

5 lakh or 14 lakh? Know how much arrears you will get and the complete calculation formula.

Is AI also the reason?

In recent months, AI has been cited as the biggest reason for job cuts. Many companies are saying that with the help of AI, work can be done faster and at lower cost. This is the reason why they are reducing the number of their employees. However, some experts believe that it is not right to hold AI solely responsible for every layoff. In many cases, companies are also laying off employees for restructuring and cost control.

Which companies made the most layoffs?

Companies like Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Coinbase, Freshworks and Cisco have been among the companies laying off employees on a large scale in 2026. Some companies have shown thousands of employees the exit simultaneously. It was also seen at many places that old posts were abolished and in their place recruitment started on new posts related to AI.

Government gives ultimatum to BHEL and SAIL, Maharatna crown may be snatched away; Know the matter

Increasing concern among employees

Due to continuous layoffs, concern has increased among people working in the tech sector. Especially for new graduates and entry-level employees, finding a job is becoming more difficult than before. Many reports have also revealed that opportunities for young software developers have declined as companies are relying more on experienced employees and AI-based tools.

What could happen next?

Experts say that AI cannot completely replace humans, but it is definitely changing the way work is done. In the coming years, the demand for people who know how to work with AI will increase. Therefore, employees will have to focus on learning skills related to new technologies, data analytics, machine learning and AI tools.

Intuit Layoff: Global financial technology firm Intuit has made a big announcement of laying off 17 percent of its global workforce i.e. about 3000 people.

According to the company’s internal memo, CEO Sasan Goodarzi told employees on Wednesday that the purpose of this restructuring is to reduce complexity and simplify the company’s organizational structure so that better products can be delivered and the pace of innovation can be accelerated.

Is the company replacing humans with AI?

The objective of the company is to reduce the complexities of organization and improve operations. In this sequence, Intuit is shifting its resources towards AI-based technology.

The company also recently signed deals with companies like OpenAI and Anthropic to add AI to its financial and tax software like TurboTax and QuickBooks. However, the CEO of the company has made it clear that the layoff has not been done to replace workers with AI, but it is a strategic part of the company to increase its efficiency.

What will the affected employees get?

According to Reuters report, the employees affected by this layoff in America will be given 16 weeks’ basic salary. Apart from this, additional 2 weeks salary for every year of service spent in the company will also be included in the package.

impact on india

This global layoff of Intuit is sure to impact India also because India, especially Bengaluru, is one of the global hubs of the company. Large teams of product development, engineering and data science work here, so some roles can be eliminated in these offices also. Intuit is also going to close its offices in Reno, Nevada and Woodland Hills, California. The company announced this layoff on the same day as Meta announced the firing of 8000 people from its company.

Tech Layoffs 2026: At present, layoffs are going on continuously in big tech companies around the world. Till now in the year 2026, thousands of employees have lost their jobs. According to media reports, about 25 thousand tech employees lost their jobs in just two weeks of May 2026. The biggest thing is that most of the companies are now focusing more on AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence and due to this the number of employees is being reduced. Know from here which are the companies which are laying off or have already done so and what is the real reason for layoffs, information about this is also given here.

Which companies laid off employees?

According to media reports, big companies like PayPal, Cisco and Cloudflare have laid off thousands of employees. PayPal is being discussed the most. The company is preparing to reduce its workforce by about 20 percent in the next few years. If we look at the reports, more than 4700 employees may be affected by this. The company now wants to invest more in AI and automation. At the same time, Cisco has also decided to eliminate about 4000 jobs. The company says that now it wants to focus on AI and the fast growing tech sector.

Now the government is preparing to abolish this tax! Who will get the benefit and how? may be approved soon

What is the reason for retrenchment?

Earlier companies used to fire employees to reduce costs or due to business losses, but now the picture is changing. Now AI is being considered as the biggest reason. Many companies say that with the help of AI, many tasks are being done faster and at lower cost. In such a situation, companies want to work more with a smaller team. This is the reason why continuous restructuring is being seen in the tech sector.

Impact from LinkedIn to Freshworks

The impact of layoffs is not limited to American companies only. Companies like LinkedIn, Freshworks, Coinbase and Truecaller are also reducing the number of employees. Freshworks has laid off about 500 employees. The company says that the way of working is changing rapidly due to AI.

Increasing concern among employees

Due to continuous layoffs, fear and uncertainty is increasing among people working in the tech industry. People are also expressing concerns about jobs on social media and platforms like Reddit. Many people believe that in the future, more jobs may be affected due to AI. However, some experts say that AI cannot completely replace humans. In the new era, only those people will be more safe who will keep learning new technology and update themselves continuously.

This state reduced VAT on fuel from 18% to 7%, people got relief amid inflation.

What should be done?

Experts believe that restructuring in tech companies may increase further in the coming months. Companies are now working on planning to do more work with less employees. At present, the most important thing for those working in the tech sector is to learn new skills and increase their ability to work with AI, because now the industry is changing rapidly and the coming time is considered to be completely of technology and automation.

Snapchat Layoff: Snap’s shares have seen a rise on Wednesday, meanwhile the company has also decided to reduce its staff. There are reports that the company is going to lay off some people from its staff soon. These jobs are being lost because of AI. The company has also recently announced layoff of 16 percent of its employees.

Company CEO wrote letter
In fact, on Wednesday, a jump of about 7% was seen in the shares of Snap Company. Citing AI-driven efficiency, the company has planned to cut up to 16% of its employees globally. CEO Evan Spiegel said in a letter to employees that the cuts would affect approximately 1,000 employees and at least 300 vacant positions would also be closed.

AI becomes enemy for employees
In a letter to his employees, Spiegel said, ‘Last time I mentioned that Snap is going through a decisive phase, which requires a new, faster and more efficient way of working, as well as moving towards profitable growth. We believe that rapid advances in artificial intelligence are enabling our teams to reduce repetitive tasks, increase speed, and better support our community, partners and advertisers.

He further wrote, ‘We have already seen small teams using AI tools to make meaningful progress on a number of important initiatives, including Snapchat+, improved performance of the advertising platform, and efficiency improvements in our Snap Lite infrastructure.’

Employees will get four months salary
The company says that these decisions are difficult for them too, but considering the future, this decision is also necessary. The company has also said that the company is fully in support of the employees who are being laid off. Employees will be given four months salary, health insurance, equity vesting and career transition support. Spiegel said the layoffs would reduce the company’s annual costs by more than $500 million by the second half of 2026. Snap estimates revenue of $1.5 billion for the first quarter, an increase of 12% year-over-year.

Oracle Layoff: Big news has come out regarding American IT company Oracle. According to reports, the company has fired about 12,000 employees in India and another large-scale layoff is expected in the coming month. The number of Indian employees is more than 40 percent of the number of people laid off by the company worldwide.

The big thing is that globally the company has laid off about 30,000 employees. This information has been confirmed by the employees affected by the layoff. It is being told that the total number of Oracle employees in India is said to be around 30000, out of which a large number have been affected by this decision. However, the company has refused to comment officially on this entire matter.

What will happen now after the retrenchment of employees?

In the email sent to the company’s employees, it has been said that some changes are being made in the organization, due to which it has been decided to simplify the operations. As a result, many posts are being abolished, which has affected the jobs of employees. A severance package has also been announced for the employees after the retrenchment.

Under this, 15 days salary will be given to the employees who have completed one year of service. Apart from this, salary till termination date, leave encashment, gratuity as per eligibility and salary for one month notice period are also included. The company has also proposed to pay an additional two months’ salary, but this package is only for those employees who resign with mutual consent.

Question on retrenchment, greater impact on Indian employees

Meanwhile, Merugu Sridhar, a former employee of the company, claimed that he has already been fired from the job. He told that due to strict labor laws in America, Indian employees have been affected more than local employees there. Overall, this layoff by Oracle is becoming a matter of great concern not only for the IT sector in India but globally.

Morgan Stanley Layoff: Morgan Stanley, the world’s largest financial services company, has announced layoffs of a large number of employees. The company has said that it will reduce its workforce by 3 percent, which is equivalent to 2500 employees. A source close to the matter told news agency Reuters that the layoffs have been done in Investment Banking and Trading, Wealth Management and Investment Management divisions. However, according to the source, this will not have any impact on the financial advisor.

There will be layoffs despite profits

The surprising thing is that the bank broke the record in the year 2025. During this period, the annual revenue also reached its highest level till date. Fourth quarter profit also exceeded Wall Street’s expectations. This led to a 47 percent jump in the revenue of this investment banking because with the increase in dealmaking, debt underwriting fees also almost doubled. The bank entered the year 2026 with hope. During this time, many big things were said to happen like mergers and acquisitions as well as initial public offerings. In such a situation, the issue of retrenchment is beyond comprehension.

Then why are the lay-offs taking place?

Clarifying on this, the source said that job cuts were done on the basis of strategy and individual performance. The bank is also planning to do hiring in other areas. It is clear from this that the bank is changing its location strategy. Under this, a plan is being made to eliminate old roles and recruit new people where there is more potential for development. This means that this time Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be held responsible, rather the reason for the layoffs is something else. At the end of December, Morgan Stanley’s global workforce was 82,992.

The Washington Post has conducted massive layoffs, in which nearly one-third of the company’s employees have been fired. This layoff was announced on February 4, 2026 and international reporting, sports department, local news and many other sections have been badly affected. The most shocking thing is that their correspondent Lizzie Johnson, who was reporting from the war zone in Ukraine, was also fired from her job during this period.

The job I was proud of was lost

Lizzie Johnson, who was posted in Kiev, wrote on social media, ‘I have just been fired by the Washington Post in the middle of a war zone. I have no words. I am extremely sad. She had previously posted about how difficult it was to work without electricity, heating and water, but she was proud to continue reporting there. Now his layoff has created a huge outcry in the world of journalism, because it shows that the company is reducing international coverage even in a crisis like war.

Bureaus of many countries including New Delhi closed

Executive editor Matt Murray told staff in a memo that the layoffs are to secure the company’s future. The company will now focus on areas like politics, national security, science, technology and business. International bureaus have been most affected. Several bureaus were closed or significantly downsized, such as:

Asia editor’s post ends.

Bureau chiefs of New Delhi, Sydney and Cairo laid off.

The entire Middle East reporting team was fired.

Reporters from China, Iran and Turkey were expelled.

There is also confusion over Ukraine Bureau.

In addition, the sports department has been almost completely shuttered, the books section has been eliminated, the daily ‘Post Reports’ podcast has been canceled and deep cuts have been made to the Washington Metro desk. Reporter Caroline O’Donovan, who covered Amazon’s beat, was also fired, while company owner Jeff Bezos is the founder of Amazon.

Jeff Bezos bought Washington Post in 2013

The Washington Post suffered a loss of about $100 million in 2024. Former executive editor Marty Baron said that this decision was taken at the top level. The cancellation of the plan to give endorsement to Kamala Harris before the 2024 elections led to a huge decline in subscriptions. Some employees believe that this is not only an economic but also an ideological decision. The Washington Post Guild said its staff has dropped by about 400 people over the past three years. The guild appealed to Bezos that if he did not want to invest in the company, a new owner should be found.

Washington Post weak without international coverage

Marty Baron has described it as ‘one of the darkest days in the history of the world’s greatest news organization’. Former correspondent Ashley Parker said Washington coverage would be weakened without an international bureau. Ukraine bureau chief Siobhan O’Grady wrote that he risks his life to report on the war and that readers want such news.

This layoff is a sign of the American media’s retreat from international journalism. The world is becoming more global, but American media is focusing more on domestic issues. Many people are considering this as a big blow to journalism, because ground reporting from war zones will be reduced.

Layoffs 2025: In the year 2025, many tech companies around the world conducted layoffs. Due to this, more than 120,000 people lost their jobs. This was a year when there were large-scale cuts in the workforce of the global tech industry.

Companies laid off people due to their focus on cutting expenses, restructuring of working patterns and changes being made regarding artificial intelligence. Roles were reduced in many different sectors, from chip manufacturing companies to IT service firms and cloud and telecom companies.

Intel laid off the most people

Intel laid off the most employees from its place. Semiconductor company Intel laid off about 24,000 people to rein in its expenses and change its foundry-focused business model.

After this, the name of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) came at second place, which laid off about 20,000 staff. The reasons for this were said to be lack of skills and greater adoption of AI-based delivery models. This means that these two companies were hit hard by layoffs this year. Verizon also eliminated about 15,000 roles while restructuring its operations to reduce costs.

Amazon is no less in terms of layoffs

Amazon’s name was also included in the list of companies making layoffs this year. This year, Amazon reduced its workforce by eliminating about 14,000 management and administrative roles. Dell Technologies also reduced about 12,000 people from its total workforce. The company focused on cost management and turned to AI-optimized hardware and enterprise services.

People lost their jobs in these companies also

Accenture and SAP also made mass layoffs. As client demand shifted towards generative AI projects, Accenture reduced the company by about 11,000 staff. SAP eliminated 10,000 roles to manage its cloud computing and business AI resources.

Microsoft laid off about 9,000 people across several divisions, including gaming and Azure, and prioritized long-term AI infrastructure investments. Toshiba cut 5,000 jobs due to restructuring after privatization, while Cisco made the top ten by laying off 4,250 employees by redirecting spending on cyber security and AI development.

AI for Layoffs: In this changing era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), news of layoffs are continuously coming to the fore. Thousands of people are being thrown out of work. Many companies are preparing for more layoffs. Whatever may be the reason, losing a job is no less than a shock for any person. However, it is worth wondering whether AI alone is responsible for people losing their jobs or are there some other reasons too.

Such workers live in Target

Avik, who has been an HR professional on Instagram, said that layoff decisions are not taken overnight. He also told that this phase of layoffs has not started only because of AI automation, but compliance is also responsible for it. This means that employees who do not follow the process or do not complete training are always in the target. They are at the highest risk of losing their jobs.

Now layoffs due to overhiring

Overhiring can also be held responsible for this. After Corona and the sudden boom in digitalization, companies had assumed that growth would continue. During this time, big teams were formed, people were hired indiscriminately, many different roles emerged. Now when the demand is decreasing, the budget is being cut. This is the time when management is forced to reduce the number of its employees. In such a situation, AI alone cannot be made a villain, it is just a means. The real culprit is uncontrolled expansion.

A hint is enough for the wise.

When someone is about to lose his job, he gets many signals such as your workload is suddenly increased, your share of work or responsibility is given to someone else. You start being kept out of meetings, projects or some important discussions. The manager’s behavior changes suddenly. Suddenly faults are found in your work and you are stopped from getting promotion or growth. However, it is not necessary that if this is happening to you too, then your job is in danger, but there is no harm in sensing the signs in time and looking for the right opportunity so that even if there is a layoff, you can easily overcome it.

Nestle Global Job Cuts 2025: A news has come out regarding job cuts in Nestle, one of the country’s largest FMCG sector companies. The company is preparing to fire its 16 thousand employees. Which is about 6 percent of the total employees. This step has been taken by Nestle’s new CEO Philippe Navratil.

Not much time has passed since he joined the company. The CEO said in his statement that the whole world is changing very fast and Nestle will also have to change at the same pace. Whatever strict and necessary steps have to be taken for this, he is ready for it. For example, steps like reducing the number of employees.

What does Nestle have to say about layoffs?

Nestle has informed that this retrenchment will be completed in a period of 2 years. Due to this lay off, 16,000 workers will be laid off. Nestlé has planned layoffs globally. That means, Nestle will furlough employees from every branch in the world. In this retrenchment, 12,000 white collar jobs and 4000 supply chain employees will be laid off.

CEO gave information

Nestlé’s new CEO Philippe Navratil joined the company in 2001. He has reached this position after his long experience. The company will benefit from this retrenchment of 1 billion Swiss francs. Which is double the fixed amount. Navratil also said that the company’s sales have fallen by 1.9 percent in the last 9 months and have reached the figure of 65.9 billion Swiss francs. However, the price of the company has increased by 1.7 percent.

Navratil has indicated through his statements that he can make some major changes in the company. Also, a plan can be worked out to sell such units which are not doing well. Such huge layoffs are being linked to these signs of Navratil. Nestle’s profit margin has also declined and it has fallen from Rs 986 crore to Rs 753 crore as compared to the second quarter of last year.
