Tejashwi Yadav said, “In the 21 years of NDA government, Bihar has lagged behind in all the parameters, criteria and indices of development, but no one has ever held any accountability on these shameful facts and rankings. The so-called well-governed people are enjoying power with the help of back-and-forth, administrative system, vote buying from the government treasury, vote looting and casteism.”

Caste Census News: After the decision to conduct caste census across the country through the central government, the politics of Bihar is in full swing. After all the attacks of the opposition and the ruling party, now the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi, in which Tejashwi Yadav has put his views on caste census and some new demands in front of PM Modi.

For years, your government and NDA alliance rejected the demand for caste census as divisive and unnecessary, when Bihar initiated to conduct caste surveys with its resources, the central government and its top law officials have been hurriedly hurriedly. Further written that your delayed decision accepts the prevalence of the demands of those citizens who have been marginalized for a long time. The caste survey of Bihar, which revealed that OBCs and EBCs having about 63% of our state’s population, broke many myths spread to maintain the status quo. A similar pattern is likely to emerge across the country. I am sure that the disadvantaged communities will create less representation in every life, despite being most of our population, a democratic awakening will create.

He also said that caste census is just the first step of a long journey of social justice. The goal of increasing the scope of social security and reservation according to the population from the census data should also be an integral part of this process. As a country, we also have an important opportunity to fix many types of injustice in upcoming delimitation. The renovation of the constituencies should be sensitive to the census data.

Special provisions should be made for adequate political representation in institutions deciding OBC and EBC. These deprived groups will have to be included on the basis of the principle of proportional representation in the state assemblies and the Parliament of India. Our Constitution ordered the state to reduce economic inequalities and ensure equitable distribution of resources through its director principles. When we know how many of our citizens belong to the deprived groups and what their economic status is, then the intervention with more accuracy should be prepared.

Private sector, which has been a major beneficiary of public resources, cannot be separated from the needs of social justice. Companies have been getting adequate benefits, land at concessional rates, power subsidy, tax exemption, basic facilities, and various types of financial incentives. Its burden raises the shoulder of the taxpayer. In turn, it is completely appropriate to expect the private industry sector to reflect the social structure of our country. In the context of caste census, there should be open talks about inclusion and diversity in the private sector.

Prime Minister, your government is now standing at a historic intersection. The decision to conduct caste census can be a transformational moment in the journey of equality of our country. Our ancestors have struggled for the collection of these figures for many decades. Therefore, there should not be a delay in implementing this decision.

A dagger question is also whether data will be used as a catalyst for systemic reforms, or will it be limited to dusty archives like many previous commission reports? As the representative of Bihar, where the caste survey has opened eyes towards the ground reality, I assure you of creative cooperation in making social changes. Millions of people struggling for this census are waiting for not only data but also respect, not only calculations but empowerment.
