A big chapter in Telangana politics has formally ended. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS)’s Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s resignation from the Legislative Council (MLC) membership has finally been accepted. Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhendra Reddy took this big decision after Kavitha’s emotional address in the House on Monday.

The Legislative Secretary has issued an official notification in this regard. Kavita was elected Legislative Council member unopposed from Nizamabad local body constituency in the year 2021. With the approval of his resignation, this seat has now been officially declared vacant, due to which rumors of another by-election have intensified in the state.

Kavita could not control her tears
Before the resignation was accepted, a very emotional scene was witnessed during the council proceedings on Monday. Kavita could not control her tears while addressing the House. He launched a scathing attack on his own former party (BRS), alleging that when the central agencies targeted him in the Delhi Excise Policy issue, the party leadership left him alone.

Kavita said, “It was morally wrong for me to continue in the position that I got from a party with which I no longer have any connection.” He termed the BRS constitution as a ‘joke’ and alleged that the party has now become only a den of those who had betrayed the Telangana movement.

When did you resign?
Of. Kavita had resigned from the primary membership of BRS and the post of MLC on 3 September 2025 itself. This step was taken just a day after his suspension. However, the Chairman did not accept his resignation at that time. Recently, on January 2, he personally met the Chairman and asked for a chance to present his views, after which the final approval was given on Monday.

There is talk in political circles that Kavitha is now preparing to convert her organization ‘Telangana Jagruti’ into a full-fledged political party. She has made it clear that she will emerge as a new force in the upcoming assembly elections. Minister Kadam insisted that he has directed the police commissioners of other urban areas including Navi Mumbai to take strict action on dance bars. He said that “If I had any vested interest, I would not allow such actions. The action on my instructions shows that I do not support any illegal activity.”

Kadam also alleged that Anil Parab is trying to derail these actions. He raised the question that “Do we do not want to take action on illegal dance bars?”

Preparation of privilege breach proposal

Yogesh Kadam said that he would give notice notice to the Chairman of the Legislative Council in this matter and demand the removal of Parab’s statement from the proceedings of the House.

He said that “According to Rule 35, it is necessary to give prior information to any member before making allegations against a minister. Parab neither did so nor accuses me of my presence in the House. It is not only a violation of the rules, but also against the dignity of Parliament.”
