Demonstration in Leh suddenly became violent on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) demanding full state status to Union Territory Ladakh. The students involved in the movement clashed with the police and security forces. 4 people died in this clash, while more than 70 people are said to be injured. During the protest, the students stoned the security forces. The mob set the BJP office and a CRPF car on fire.

1. deployment of security forces being increased vigilant due to violence
The Union Home Ministry is considering the violence erupted in Leh as a planned conspiracy. To keep the situation under control, at least 12 companies of CAPF are being sent to Leh. In these, four companies of CRPF have already reached, while four companies will reach by Thursday. Apart from this, seven companies already present there were already deployed. Four more companies of ITBP have also been sent to the spot to increase security. If needed, other paramilitary forces will also be deployed in Ladakh.

2. Lieutenant Governor feared conspiracy
Ladakh Lt. Governor Kavinder Gupta said that there is a smell of conspiracy in the ongoing protests in Leh. He says that some people are deliberately provoking people and it is being compared to protests in Bangladesh and Nepal. Gupta warned that if the administration had not controlled the protest in time, the situation could have become more serious. He also said that whether people outside Ladakh are involved in protest, it will be investigated. He clarified that ‘those who were killed on Wednesday are responsible for those who provoked the crowd. Such things will not be tolerated. My effort is to maintain peace in Ladakh.

3. Violence erupted after two people deteriorated
Chering Dorje, president of Leh Apex Body (LAB), said that the Ladakh unit of LAB had organized Ladakh bandh. 2 people sitting on hunger strike had to be taken to the hospital after their health deteriorated. After this, the atmosphere became tense and some youth started stone pelting, on which the police had to take action.

4. Administration strict procession, rally and march stopped
Leh District Administration has implemented Section 163 of the Code of India Justice (BNS). Under this, 5 or more people are prohibited from gathering. Now without permission no one can do a procession, rally or march. It has also been clarified in the order that no person will give such a statement that will disturb peace or affect law and order. The administration said that this decision has been taken to maintain peace and prevent the situation from deteriorating the situation.

5. What is the demand of protesters?
People performing in Leh demand that Ladakh be given full state status again and the sixth schedule of the Constitution should be implemented here. Apart from this, the protesters are demanding to make Kargil and Leh a Lok Sabha seat. Currently, there is only one Lok Sabha seat here, before the removal of Article 370, Ladakh had 4 assembly seats, but now there is not a single one. The protesters are also demanding to restore it.

6. BJP claims Congress behind Leh violence
The BJP has alleged that the Congress is a conspiracy behind the violent performance. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey allegedly shared two pictures of Congress ward member Funtasog Stanjin Tsepag on social media. He claimed that he set fire to the BJP office. In a picture, Tsepag is seen with Rahul Gandhi. Nishikant Dubey taunted Rahul Gandhi and wrote- ‘Rahul Gandhi is running this love shop?’

7. Sonam Wangchuk announced to withdraw strike
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Wednesday expressed grief over the incidents of violence in Leh and blamed the growing frustration between “Jane Z” for the violence. After taking violent form of the movement, Wangchuk withdrew his hunger strike for 15 days. Wangchuk said that two of the protesters, a 72 -year -old man and a 62 -year -old woman were rushed to the hospital on Tuesday and said that it was probably an immediate cause of violent protest.

8. Wangchuk has been performing continuously for 18 months
Wangchuk has been performing continuously for the last 18 months. In March 2024, he fasted for 21 days, after which the Center assured him of talks. In September 2024, he took a march from Leh to Delhi, but was arrested on the border of the capital. In October 2024, after sitting on a fast in Delhi once again, the Center assured the talks again. In the same month, he fasted for 16 days in Leh, and the Center again promised talks. In August 2025, his performance in Kargil received the support of opposition Parliament and leaders. His fast in Leh in September 2025 continues for the last 35 days and he has also got the support of local organizations.

He openly talked about bringing a movement like ‘Arab Spring’ to Ladakh and praised the performance of Nepal’s youth. It is alleged that he used youth to divert attention from his personal financial irregularities. For his benefit, he shielded the youth of Ladakh and put them on the streets.

10. Four people died, more than 70 people injured
Officials said four people were killed and more than 70 people were injured in a clash between protesters and security personnel during the bandh called by Leh Apex Body (LAB) on Wednesday. The protesters committed violence and attacked the BJP office and several vehicles, after which the police had to shoot to bring the situation under control.

Government sources have expressed deep concern over the recent violent performance in Ladakh. Sources said that whatever happened is very sad, but the question arises that who really benefited from this chaos? When the talks between the government and the protesters were scheduled on 6 October and informal talks were also being planned on 25-26 September, why violence was provoked in such a time?

Talking about stone pelting at government offices, threatening to take action and pushing the youth towards conflict was part of the Congress strategy. This was not a natural opposition but a pre-planned script that was converted into violence. Sources said that the youth were used, the mistake is not of them but of those who used them as pawns.

Government’s interaction and security efforts
The government says that it has always taken talks seriously. Even in the last week of July, dates were proposed for the meeting of the High Planned Committee (HPC), but no positive response was received. The government reiterated that the security of Ladakh’s land, employment, culture and other sensitive issues has always been its priority. In this direction, decisions like increasing reservation to 85 percent have been taken.

The interests of the people of Ladakh are paramount
Government sources said that the conversation should always be in an open mind and friendly atmosphere, not in a sense of conflict. The aim of the government is that the people of Ladakh should be at the center of all policy decisions. The biggest priority of the government is the government’s biggest priority to protect the interests of Ladakhis and give them adequate protection.

LG also condemned the violence during the protest
Ladakh Ladakh Lt. Governor Kavinder Gupta strongly condemned the violence in Leh and expressed deep grief over the loss of life and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He wished for early health benefits of the injured. The Lieutenant Governor directed the administration and law and order agencies to take strict steps and ensure the safety of the public. He clarified that violence will not be tolerated in any form.
