The National Citizen Party (NCP), a political party formed by the leaders of the July Movement in Bangladesh, has joined hands with the Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami for the general elections in the country to be held in February 2026 next year. This alliance was announced by Jamaat Aamir Shafiqur Rehman on Sunday (December 28, 2025).

According to the Dhaka Tribune report, Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman said that NCP and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined the currently eight-party alliance, after which this alliance has now become 10 parties. He said that he has spoken to NCP convenor Naheed Islam some time ago and the students’ party will make a formal announcement by Sunday (December 28, 2025) night.

Dissatisfaction within NCP over Jamaat’s alliance decision

However, dissatisfaction has also come to light within the NCP regarding the decision of alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Many leaders of the party led by Nahid Islam have started submitting their resignations in protest against this decision. According to the report, 30 leaders of the NCP Central Committee had written a letter to Nahid Islam on Saturday (December 27, 2025) opposing any electoral agreement with the Jamaat.

Many party leaders resigned in a week

The Daily Star in its report on Sunday (December 28, 2025) said that more than 170 leaders of the NCP Central Committee have supported the alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. At the same time, just before the announcement by Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rehman, NCP joint convenor Tajnuwa Jabeen resigned from her post on Sunday afternoon (December 28, 2025).

According to the report, in the Facebook post, Jabeen expressed deep disappointment over the party’s policy-making process and its efforts for alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Earlier on Thursday (December 25, 2025), Mir Arshadul Haq, the main leader of the anti-Jamaat faction within the NCP, had also resigned. He was the Joint Member Secretary of NCP and Chief Co-ordinator of Chittagong City Unit. In the last one week, there has been a wave of resignations within the party.

Sane Taki, popularly known as Iron Lady in Japan, has won the election of the President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Therefore, there is a possibility that Taki will take over as the next Prime Minister. Sane Takaichi defeated Shinjiro Koizumi, son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi in the election for the post of ruling party president. Koizumi is considered one of the most liberal leaders of Japan.

Taki has played an important role in Japan’s political system many times before. She has been a former internal affairs minister and is known as a conservative nationalist leader in the country’s politics. She can now handle the government’s reins in place of the current Prime Minister of LDP Shigeru Ishiba. Political analysts say that the leadership of Takaichi will not only symbolize gender balance in Japan politics, but will also add a new chapter in the foreign policy and inner direction of the country.

Strong hold on America-Japan relations
Sane is considered to be the biggest strength of Takiychi, his international understanding and deep relations with America. She worked in America in the early stages of her career and has been closely monitoring the relationship between the two countries for a long time. Takichi has said that she can form a strong personal relationship with US President Donald Trump, as her policy focuses on ‘Japan First’, which corresponds to Trump’s ‘US First’ policy. The thinking of Sane Takaichi is that Japan should move towards increasing self -sufficiency in its military and economic policies. She believes that Japan should establish its regional and global role firmly. According to political experts, this policy of Taki can deepen relations with America, but this will be their biggest challenge to balance neighboring countries.

Disputed stand on relations with Asian neighbors
Sane Taki is known for her aggressive stance on issues related to her orthodox ideas and the legacy of World War II. He has insisted on visiting Yasukuni pilgrimage several times, this is the place where worship is worshiped in memory of the war heroes of Japan, but it is seen as an honor of war criminals in countries like China and South Korea. Due to his attitude, there is a possibility of increasing tension in relations with Japan’s neighboring countries China and South Korea. Experts say that after becoming Prime Minister, Taki will have to show some flexibility in his thoughts to maintain international balance, otherwise it may have an impact on regional relations.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced to resign from his post on Sunday (September 7, 2025). The demands of resignation against him in the party had intensified after the recent upper house elections were defeated. Now the struggle for the new leader has started in the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Many leaders are coming up in this process, including Sane Taki, Shinjiro Koizumi, Yoshimasa Hayashi, Yoshihiko Noda and Yuichiro Tamaki. After the election, the new Prime Minister will be selected by voting in Parliament.

Sane Takaichi – Japan’s first woman on the path of becoming Prime Minister
Sane Takaichi (age-64 years) is a senior leader of LDP. She is known for the conservative ideology and has last competed with Ishiba for leadership. If she is elected then Japan’s first woman will become Prime Minister. Sane has served as a minister in economic security and internal affairs.

Shinjiro Coizhumi – Hope to become the youngest Prime Minister
Shinjiro Koizumi (age-44 years) comes from a political family and is known as a reformer. He has tried to improve the image of the party from corruption in Japan. Koizumi has also worked as the Minister of Environment and is in favor of making the climate policy effective.

Yoshimasa Hayashi – Government’s vocal spokesperson
Yoshimasa Hayashi (age-64 years) has been the Chief Cabinet Secretary. He has taken over the Ministry of Defense, Foreign and Agriculture. Experts in English and experts in foreign policy, Hayashi are in favor of maintaining the freedom of the monetary policy of Bank of Japan. He has participated twice in LDP leadership elections.

Yoshihiko Noda and Yuichiro Tamaki

Yoshihiko Noda (Age-68 years) is the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP) and has also been a former Prime Minister. He supported fiscal stiffness by increasing consumption tax. Recently he demanded temporary tax deduction on food items and advocated gradually ending the encouragement scheme of Bank of Japan.

Yuichiro Tamaki (age-56 years) is the co-founder of right-wing Democratic Party for the People (DPP). He has been a former Finance Ministry officer. Tamaki is in favor of tax deduction, tax exemption and increasing people’s income. They are also in support of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, implementing strict rules on foreign land acquisition and creating new nuclear plants. Also, they recommend ending the monetary policy of Bank of Japan in a cautious manner.
