After more than 50 years of ban, Pakistan’s liquor company named Murree Brewery has got permission to export liquor abroad. The production of liquor has increased in the factory located in Rawalpindi. Murree Brewery was started in British India in 1860 for the soldiers. Mari Brewery is run by Isfanyar Bhandara, who is the third generation of his family to run the business. Pakistani MP Isfanyar comes from the Parsi community. His family has a significant influence in Pakistan’s politics and business. He says that getting permission to export is a matter of great happiness for the company. He said that my grandfather and father tried to get an export license, but they could not get it. After years of lobbying and efforts to remove the export ban, they have achieved significant success.

Bhandara told that the red-brick liquor factory of Mari, built in the mountains, is now running in Rawalpindi. This factory is near the house of Army Chief Asim Munir, which is one of the most secure places in Pakistan. Before the export ban, Mari used to sell its products to neighboring India and Afghanistan as well as Gulf countries and America. Bhandara says that currently his aim is to explore new markets and establish his foothold in the world.

How did it start?
Murree Brewery, named after the hill town of Murree in Pakistan, was started during the British era. This is the oldest and largest liquor company of Pakistan. The company produces many beverages like beer, whiskey, vodka and juice. Mari Brewery has been operating for decades in an Islamic country where alcohol is illegal for everyone except non-Muslims.

Let us tell you that Pakistan had banned liquor for Muslims in the 1970s. In such a situation, out of the country’s population of 24 crore, only about 90 lakh people can buy liquor legally.

According to AP report, Premium Residency is a special scheme of the Saudi government, the aim of which is to attract wealthy investors, big businessmen and highly qualified foreign professionals to stay in the country for a long time. Under this permit, a person can live in Saudi Arabia without any local sponsor, buy property, start a business and keep his family together. However, for this the conditions of heavy investment and high income have to be fulfilled.

Foreigners used to go to Bahrain

Before this change, foreigners living in Saudi Arabia used to go to neighboring country Bahrain for alcohol. A huge crowd of Saudi citizens and foreigners was seen there during weekends. Some people also resorted to illegal methods or home-made liquor, which was risky both in terms of health and law. Experts believe that this decision is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ‘Vision 2030’ program. Under this plan, Saudi Arabia is moving towards modernizing itself socially and economically. In recent years, opening of cinema halls in the country, women getting permission to drive and organizing international music and entertainment programs are considered to be the links of this change.

People said that customers can buy liquor from liquor shops in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, under the monthly point based allowance system. Earlier in the Bloomberg report, it was also told that new liquor shops are being built in two more cities of Saudi Arabia.

• Drinking alcohol for a long time is the biggest cause of liver cirrhosis and ultimately cancer. Reducing or quitting alcohol protects the liver.
• Reduce fried, sugar and high fat foods. Control your weight, walk for 30 minutes daily so that fatty liver does not form.
• Hepatitis B/C is spread through unsafe needles or contaminated blood, which later causes cancer.
• If you already have hepatitis, alcoholism, fatty liver or cirrhosis, get your liver checked every 6–12 months.
