China US trade: China has temporarily suspended the ban imposed on the export of some dual-use items to America. These include gallium, germanium, antimony and super-hard materials. China’s Commerce Ministry gave this information on Sunday (November 9, 2025). The ministry said that this suspension will be effective from today till November 27, 2026. The ministry did not share any further details in this regard. In December 2024, China had announced a ban on the export of these materials.

Relief on other export controls also
China also announced the suspension of other export controls on Friday, including restrictions imposed on some rare earth elements and lithium battery materials. This step is being linked to the agreement between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump. The two leaders had earlier agreed to postpone tariff cuts and other trade measures for a year. After six years, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping talked for about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Told Xi Jinping as a great leader
Trump praised Xi Jinping and said that he is a great leader of a great country and he feels that they will have a great relationship for a long time. At the same time, Xi Jinping said that he was very happy to meet Trump after many years. The two leaders last met in 2019, when Trump was in his first term. China bans export restrictions
Earlier on Friday, China had announced that it was stopping the export restrictions imposed on October 9, in which the strictness on some rare metals and items related to lithium batteries was increased. This decision is part of the process of withdrawing the restrictions imposed earlier on a wide scale. Earlier, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump had agreed that for the next one year, both the countries would reduce tariffs and avoid new trade steps. Its purpose is to prevent trade tensions from escalating further while negotiations continue.

What is the importance of these metals?
Gallium and germanium are used in semiconductors, fiber optics, solar panels and defense systems. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), China’s dominance in the production of these metals is so great that about 98 percent of the primary gallium used in the world comes from China. After China’s export ban, American companies had to find new suppliers in Europe and South-East Asia.

The government company NLC India is currently interacting with a Russian company to take a stake in a lithium block in Mali, Africa. This will help India to achieve its goal of clean energy. This will also reduce dependence on China and one stable supply will also remain.

In which works do lithium are used?

Apart from generating green energy, lithium is also used to make rechargeable batteries, which are used from smartphones to laptops. Lithium-ion batteries are also used in grid-scale energy storage systems, which also helps to store energy generated from renewable energy sources. It has many other benefits.

According to CSEP’s research report, India has finalized 206 projects in 43 African countries. Under these projects, India has provided a concessional loan of more than $ 12.3 billion to African countries. Apart from this, India has also given a grant of $ 700 million for capacity building in African countries since 1949.

India has entered into cooperation agreements in both non-renovated and renewable energy sectors, strengthening energy partnership with these countries.

According to the 2023 report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the total value of mining and mineral trade between India and Africa has reached $ 43 billion since 2001. Recently, the Government of India has announced that it is planning to acquire important mineral resources in African countries like Congo, Tanzania and Mozambic. Apart from this, India has also secured 9,000 square kilometers of greenfield land for exploration of copper and cobalt in Zambia.
