Nowadays, as soon as we go to a shop, our eyes first fall on those things which are written sugar-free, low-calorie or guilt-free. We feel that if there is no sugar then the thing will automatically be good for health. Especially due to fear of diabetes or to keep weight down, people have started taking sugar-free sweets, biscuits, chewing gums, protein bars and diet drinks instead of regular sugar. But the question is whether sugar-free is really completely safe or are we unknowingly harming our body, especially the liver. So let us know that if you repeatedly take sugar free to avoid diabetes, then how it ruins the liver.

Increasing trend of diabetes and sugar-free

Diabetes is spreading very fast in today’s lifestyle. According to the 2024 data of America’s CDC, about 3.84 crore people are suffering from diabetes there, and the surprising thing is that about 87 lakh people do not even know that they have diabetes. In such a situation, people think that if they give up sugar and adopt sugar-free things then they will be safe, hence sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose and sugar alcohol are being used instead of refined sugar. One of these is sorbitol.

What is sorbitol?

Sorbitol is a type of sugar alcohol, which is used in low-calorie and sugar-free products. It is commonly found in sugar-free chewing gum, protein bars, low-calorie snacks, cough syrups, some medicines, and some fruits (such as apples, pears). Till now, sorbitol has been considered a better and safer option than sugar. But now questions are being raised on this.

How does it ruin the liver?

Scientists from America’s Washington University (St. Louis) have recently conducted an important study, which has been published in a prestigious journal named Science Signaling. This research was led by Dr. Gary Patty. His team has already proven that fructose (a type of sugar) can cause liver damage and promote fatty liver and even cancer cells. In this new study, scientists found that sorbitol is just one step away from fructose and can cause the same harm in the body that fructose does.

What does sorbitol do in the body?

According to research, when we eat food, glucose (sugar) increases in our body. This glucose can be converted into sorbitol after going into the intestine. Then the sorbitol reaches the liver through the intestine. In the liver, it gets converted into fructose and this is where the problem starts. Fructose is considered a major cause of fatty liver disease, which is affecting about 30 percent of adults worldwide today.

Liver is one of the most important organs of our body, which plays an important role in functioning of the body. It helps in detoxifying the blood in the body and also helps in digestion of nutrients, due to which the body remains disease free and healthy. However, in today’s fast-paced life, more fried and unhealthy food is being consumed, due to which the liver becomes weak. In such a situation, it is important to know which foods strengthen the liver.

These are the 5 best foods for liver, know about them

1. Green Tea

Regular consumption of green tea is considered very important for liver health. It helps in reducing oxidative stress and helps in removing toxic substances from the liver, thereby enabling the liver to function better. According to research, consumption of green tea can also help in preventing deadly diseases like liver cancer.

2. Grapes

Grapes help in protecting the liver from many dangerous diseases, because it is rich in natural antioxidants. It is considered helpful in preventing cancer cells and reducing problems like inflammation in the liver.

3. Beetroot Juice

Beetroot juice plays an important role in removing dirt and toxic substances from the liver. Its regular consumption reduces liver inflammation and helps in increasing liver enzymes, which further improves liver function.

4. Garlic

Garlic is considered very beneficial for the liver. The natural elements present in it help in detoxifying the liver and removing the toxic substances accumulated in it. Consuming garlic in limited quantity is helpful in keeping the liver healthy.

5. Green leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables make the liver strong and healthy. The antioxidants, vitamins and beta carotene present in them improve liver health. The fiber found in these improves digestion and helps in preventing fat accumulation in the liver.

These are the 5 worst foods for liver, stay away from them

While some foods strengthen the liver, some eating habits can cause serious damage to the liver.

1. Too much sweet food

If you regularly eat biscuits, cakes and other sweet foods, it can harm the liver. Excess sugar turns into fat in the body and gets stored in the liver, which can lead to fatty liver problems.

2. Fast food and excessive fried food

Eating fast food and excessive fried food increases bad type of fat in the body. This fat accumulates directly in the liver and puts pressure on it and reduces the efficiency of the liver.

3. Packed and processed food

If there is more packed and processed food in your diet, then it can be harmful for the liver. The chemicals, preservatives and artificial elements present in them put additional burden on the liver and gradually weaken it.

4. Alcohol

Consuming alcohol for a long time increases the risk of serious diseases like fatty liver, hepatitis and cirrhosis manifold.

5. Medicines without doctor’s advice

If a person repeatedly consumes painkillers or other medicines without doctor’s advice, it puts more pressure on the liver. Misuse of medicines for a long time can make the liver weak.

Whenever we talk about liver health, the first thing that comes to our mind is fried food, oily diet, alcohol, or excessive consumption of medicines. These things have a direct effect on the liver. But some small habits of your daily life can also harm your liver. Many times we unknowingly use such things daily which gradually have a bad effect on our liver and some of these things are present in our kitchen itself. The job of the liver is to remove the poison accumulated in the body, but when this poison becomes too much, the burden on the liver increases and due to this the liver starts becoming weak.

These utensils are more dangerous for the liver than food

1. Non-stick utensils – Non-stick utensils have become very common these days because the food gets cooked in less oil and does not stick. But this convenience can be detrimental to your health. When non-stick cookware gets too hot or gets scratched, they release chemicals like PFOA andPTFE. These chemicals gradually accumulate in the body and have a negative effect on the liver. According to research, their long-term use can cause diseases like fatty liver. In such a situation, replacing them with cast iron pan or stainless steel utensils is a better and healthier option.

2. Plastic Container – Many people store food in plastic containers or heat them in the microwave. This habit gives you convenience, but can be dangerous for your liver health. When plastic is heated, chemicals like BPA and Phthalates can be released from it. These affect hormones and affect the detox system of the body i.e. liver. Prolonged exposure to them can slow down liver function. In such a situation, to keep the liver healthy, use glass or steel containers to store food. If you want to heat food in the microwave, use only utensils labeled microwave-safe.

3. Aluminum utensils – Aluminum utensils are found in almost every Indian household because they are cheap, light and heat up quickly. But do you know that when you cook acidic things like tomato, tamarind, lemon in aluminum utensils, microscopic particles of aluminum can dissolve in the food. If excessive amount of aluminum accumulates in the body, it can have a bad effect on the liver. This can weaken the liver’s ability to cleanse itself and over time can lead to serious conditions like liver failure. Apart from this, aluminum can also increase neurological problems.

Liver is the super cleaner of our body. It purifies the blood, helps in digesting food, provides necessary energy to the body and removes toxins. But in today’s busy life, reasons like wrong eating habits, junk food, stress, lack of sleep and alcohol have a very bad effect on the liver. Gradually fat starts accumulating in the liver. This is called fatty liver. If care is not taken in time, this problem can lead to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. But you can keep your liver clean and healthy in a natural way, that too without any expensive treatment, if you want to clean the liver, then these home remedies are even easier for you. So let us know some safe and effective home remedies, which will make your liver clean and strong.

Liver Cleansing Home Remedies

1. Start your morning with lemon water – Make a habit of drinking lukewarm water mixed with half a lemon in the morning on an empty stomach. Vitamin C and antioxidants present in lemon help in cleaning the liver. It improves digestion by removing toxins from the body. By doing this daily, the stomach will remain light, the face will glow and energy will remain throughout the day.

2. Take green tea – Green tea is not only beneficial for weight loss but also for the liver. The elements called catechins present in it prevent accumulation of fat in the liver and accelerate the detox process. Drink 1 to 2 cups of green tea without sugar daily. This will make the body feel light and the liver will also be cleaned.

3. Turmeric – Turmeric is a superfood present in our kitchen. Curcumin found in it reduces inflammation of the liver and heals its cells. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric in your daily food or drink turmeric mixed with lukewarm milk at night. It detoxifies the liver and protects from diseases.

4. Keep whole grains in your diet – Eat brown rice, oats, and quinoa instead of flour or white rice. The fibers present in them keep blood sugar under control and do not put much burden on the liver. Eating whole grains regularly increases liver function and reduces the risk of fatty liver.

5. Eat almonds, walnuts and seeds – Nuts i.e. almonds, walnuts, flax seeds contain healthy fats and Vitamin E, which protect the liver cells. These reduce swelling and give energy to the body. Eating 4 to 5 almonds or some walnuts daily is a good option.

6. Apples and Berries – Fruits like apple, strawberry and blueberry are rich in antioxidants. These prevent accumulation of fat inside the liver and clean it. Include these in breakfast or as an evening snack

7. Reduce stress – Stress also harms the liver, because it increases cortisol hormone. Practice meditation, yoga or deep breathing for 10 to 15 minutes every day. It not only keeps the mind calm, but also improves the health of the liver.

Liver is a very important part of the body which purifies the blood, helps in digestion and removes toxins from the body. But when excessive fat accumulates in the liver, it is called fatty liver problem. This problem seems very common in the beginning, because no specific symptoms are visible in the initial stages, that is why most of the people do not take it seriously and unknowingly this disease keeps on increasing.

According to health experts, at the beginning of fatty liver, the liver starts signaling its problems through the face and skin. That is, if you are seeing some special changes in your face and skin, then it could be a warning of liver imbalance. So let us know which skin signs indicate that your liver has become fatty.

Understand from these skin problems that your liver has also become fatty.

1. Yellowness in the eyes – If the white part of your eyes has started looking light yellow, do not ignore it. This may be the first sign of liver disorder. When the liver does not function properly, a substance called bilirubin increases in the body, which causes yellowness in the eyes and skin. Many times this yellowness is very mild, so people ignore it considering it to be normal fatigue.

2. Change in color of lips – If your lips are no longer as pink as before and have now started appearing pale or blue, then this can also be a sign of weak liver. Liver controls oxygen and blood flow in the body. When its balance gets disturbed, this change is clearly visible in the lips.

3. Swelling of the face or under the eyes – If you notice that there is sudden swelling under your eyes or on your cheeks, do not ignore it as just lack of sleep or fatigue. This can also be an early sign of fatty liver. When the liver does not function properly, the problem of water retention in the body increases, due to which the face starts looking puffy or swollen.

4. Appearance of yellowness in the face – If your face has started looking pale or withered than before, then this is also a warning sign related to the liver. When the cleansing process of the liver becomes weak, toxins increase in the blood, due to which the skin color starts fading instead of improving. Many times this yellowness increases gradually, so it is very important to identify it in time.

5. Too oily skin – If your skin has suddenly become very oily or pimples and acne have started appearing again and again, then it is also a sign that your liver is not able to remove the toxins present in the body properly. When excessive dirt accumulates inside the body, its effect is first visible on the skin. The skin can become sticky, lifeless and full of pimples.
