Before the formation of the new government in Bihar, the efforts to get a place in the cabinet have intensified among the constituent parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to sources, both BJP and JD(U) are considering including some new faces in the cabinet. Along with this, the share of existing ministers will also be maintained almost intact.

Five to six new faces from JD(U) can be included in the cabinet. State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha, elected from Mahnar seat, is also likely to get a place in the new team of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will submit his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on November 19 and will take oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time.

Some new faces may join Bihar cabinet

Sources said JD(U) may retain most of its ministers, while BJP may induct some new faces. 24 out of 25 ministers of the previous cabinet were successful in winning the elections this time, while Sumit Kumar Singh could not save his seat. Sumit Kumar Singh won as an independent candidate in 2020 and later became a minister from JD(U) quota.

These colleagues of Chirag may get a chance in the board

Apart from JD(U) and BJP, Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLMO) will also join the new government. According to sources, LJP is likely to get three ministerial posts and HAM and RLMO are likely to get one ministerial post each. Maximum 16 ministers from BJP and 14 ministers from JD(U) can take oath on November 20.

JD(U) leaders Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Shravan Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Lacey Singh, Sheela Mandal, Madan Sahni, Ratnesh Sada, Mohammad Jama Khan, Jayant Raj, Umesh Singh Kushwaha and Ashok Chaudhary are being considered for inclusion in the cabinet. Among the new faces are Rahul Kumar Singh, Sudhanshu Shekhar, Kaladhar Prasad Mandal and Panna Lal Singh Patel.

Current ministers of BJP may get another chance

Most of the sitting ministers from BJP may get a second chance. These include Samrat Chaudhary, Prem Kumar, Mangal Pandey, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Nitish Mishra, Renu Devi, Jibesh Kumar, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Janak Ram, Hari Sahni, Kedar Prasad Gupta, Surendra Mehta, Santosh Kumar Singh and Sunil Kumar. Among the new faces, Rana Randhir, Gayatri Devi and Vijay Kumar Khemka are likely to get a place in the cabinet.

These NDA leaders will attend the swearing in ceremony

The historic Gandhi Maidan has been closed for the general public till November 20 for the swearing-in ceremony. The administration has made extensive security arrangements. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and many senior NDA leaders can attend the ceremony. Along with this exercise, it will be important to decide the political equation and balance of constituent parties in the new government of Bihar.

Also read- Nitish Kumar is necessary and also compulsion! BJP currently has only 4 options in Bihar

NDA has got a historic majority in the results after Bihar assembly elections. In such a situation, speculations are now being made regarding the formation of the government. Meanwhile, on Sunday (16 November) in Patna, Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas Paswan) leader Chirag Paswan spoke to news agency ANI.

Regarding the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bihar, the Union Minister said that it will happen soon. Discussion is going on. I think the situation will become clear in a day or two as to what will be the outline of the government between today and tomorrow.

‘Will meet senior BJP leaders today’
Chirag Paswan said that till late night today, I will also meet and talk to many senior BJP leaders. Things will become clear today or tomorrow. If we have to form the government before November 22, everything will be done soon. Let us tell you that Chirag Paswan’s LJP has emerged as the fourth largest party in Bihar elections. Where RJD, the main opposition party of Bihar, has got 25 seats. Chirag’s party has created history by winning 19 seats.

‘Achieved what my father had envisioned’
Regarding his party’s victory, Chirag Paswan said that his party has achieved the position which his father late Ram Vilas Paswan had once thought of. With hard work, our party achieved what my father had envisioned. Recalling that difficult time, Chirag Paswan said that 2009 was a difficult time when even his father could not win, but in 2014 he made a great comeback. Comparing the circumstances of 2020, Chirag said that history repeats itself.

Talks are going on among colleagues regarding representation in the cabinet of Bihar government. It is being decided how many leaders from various parties will become ministers in the government. A round of meetings is going on from Bihar to Delhi regarding this.

The results of Bihar assembly elections will be declared today. NDA seems to be getting the lead in the initial trends. At the same time, the Grand Alliance is leading on only 59 seats. Meanwhile, in Bakhtiyarpur assembly seat, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate Arun Kumar has taken a huge lead in the initial round.

At the time of writing, according to the Election Commission, till the seventh round, Arun Kumar is leading with 28,208 votes and his nearest rival, RJD’s Anirudh Kumar, is with 19,013 votes. At present, Arun Kumar’s lead is about 9,195 votes, which is much more than other candidates. This clearly indicates that victory is almost certain in their favor and no opponent will be able to leave them behind.

Candidates of other parties are far behind

This lead of Lok Janshakti Party has increased the hopes of Chirag Paswan and his party getting this seat. Other candidates like Anirudh Kumar (RJD), Balmiki Singh (Jan Suraj Party), Deepak Bhai Patel (BSP) and others are all trailing behind Arun Kumar.

Lok Janshakti Party contesting elections on 29 seats

This time Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has entered the electoral fray with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party has been given 29 seats in Bihar, which are in the districts of Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Khagaria, Vaishali, Rohtas, Nawada, Saran, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Saharsa, Siwan, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Jehanabad and Aurangabad.

How was LJP’s performance in the last elections?

In 2020, LJP had fielded candidates on 135 seats, but only the Matihani seat of Begusarai was won. At that time Rajkumar Singh became the only MLA of the party. In 2020, the party got 5.66 percent votes in the state. Whereas in 2015, LJP was a part of NDA and it got only two seats.

The results of Bihar Assembly elections are going to be declared today and everyone’s eyes are especially on the Muslim dominated assembly seats. Bihar has about 18 percent Muslim population, hence there should be at least 44 Muslim MLAs. However, since 1951 till now, such a number of Muslim MLAs have never emerged victorious. This time it remains to be seen how many Muslim candidates will be successful in making a place in the assembly.

What is the status of Muslim candidates?

In Bihar Assembly elections, both NDA and Grand Alliance have placed their bets on Muslim candidates. The grand alliance led by Tejashwi Yadav has fielded 30 Muslim candidates, while the NDA led by Nitish Kumar has fielded 5 Muslim candidates. In this way, there is direct competition between Muslim candidates on seats like Araria, Jokihat, Bahadurganj and Amour.

History of Muslim representation in Bihar

The history of Muslim representation in Bihar has been full of ups and downs. In the 1985 elections, the maximum number of 34 Muslim MLAs were elected, but at that time elections were held on a total of 324 seats in United Bihar. In contrast, in 2005, only 16 Muslim MLAs could win.

A total of 19 Muslim MLAs were elected in the 2020 elections of 243 seats in Bihar, which included 8 from RJD, 4 from Congress, 5 from AIMIM, 1 from CPI(ML) and 1 from BSP.

If we look at history, in the first assembly elections of 1951-52, 24 Muslims became MLAs. After this, 25 MLAs were elected in 1957, 21 in 1962, 18 in 1967, 19 in 1969, 25 each in 1972 and 1977, 28 in 1980 and 34 in 1985.

On Thursday (13 November 2025), a day before the counting of votes for Bihar Assembly elections, political parties reviewed the situation from their level and brainstormed about the future strategy. Meanwhile, all eyes are on whether Bihar’s longest-ruling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be able to achieve a record fifth term. Tejashwi Yadav claimed that RJD workers and the public are fully prepared to deal with any unconstitutional activity during the counting of votes.

How many parties are contesting elections in Bihar?

From the NDA side, JDU, BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) are in the electoral fray. The grand alliance includes RJD, Congress, Left parties, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Indian Inclusive Party (IIP). Apart from this, Mayawati’s party BSP, Owaisi’s party AIMIM, Om Prakash Rajbhar’s party Subhaspa, Tej Pratap’s party Janashakti Janata Dal, Chandrashekhar’s party Azad Samaj Party Kanshiram, Prashant Kishore’s Jansuraj Party are in the electoral fray.

Prominent candidates contesting from both the alliances include Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar, JDU’s Anant Singh. Apart from these faces, people’s eyes will also be focused on many seats.

Total 2,616 candidates for 243 assembly seats

According to the report of election monitoring organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a total of 2,616 candidates are in the fray for 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Of these, about 838 candidates (32 percent) have criminal cases. There are around 695 candidates who have serious criminal cases registered against them, such as murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women.

Public will keep an eye on these musclemen

Mokama seat has been in the news this time in the Bihar Assembly elections. Here there is a contest between Bahubali Anant Singh and Surajbhan Singh’s wife Veena Devi. Only because of these two, Mokama assembly seat has become the hottest election seat in this entire election of Bihar. Shivani Shukla, daughter of jailed Bahubali Munna Shukla, is contesting elections from Lalganj assembly seat. Munna Shukla alias Vijay Kumar Shukla is serving life imprisonment in the murder case of former Bihar minister Brij Bihari Prasad.

Anita Devi on RJD ticket and Aruna Devi on BJP ticket are in the fray from Warisaliganj assembly constituency of Bihar. Both of them are wives of musclemen. Apart from this, RJD’s Ritlal Yadav from Danapur, Hulas Pandey from Brahmapur, Osama Shahab from Raghunathpur are in the fray.

How many VIP candidates are in the electoral fray?

Vijay Kumar Sinha is contesting from Lakhisarai seat, Samrat Chaudhary from Tarapur, Tejashwi Yadav from Raghopur, Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, is contesting from Karakat. The people of Bihar are keeping an eye on the seats of folk singer Maithili Thakur from Alinagar seat, Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav from Chapra, Tej Pratap Yadav from Mahua and former IPS officer Anand Mishra from Buxar.

The results of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 are being eagerly awaited. Meanwhile, most of the exit polls have claimed the return of Nitish Kumar led NDA to power with an average victory of 125 seats. At the same time, the opposition Grand Alliance has been given an average of 87 seats. Now the question arises that how much should exit polls be trusted? What does history say?

Let us know how accurate and wrong the exit polls were in the last two and a half decades and four assembly elections.

When exit polls were proved wrong in Bihar Assembly elections 2020

In the year 2020, an average of 11 exit polls had predicted that the Grand Alliance led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) would form the government, albeit by a small margin. During that time, many exit polls had claimed that the Grand Alliance had won 125 seats, which was three seats more than the majority figure (122). At the same time, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) was said to get 108 seats.

In 2020, these average 11 exit polls proved wrong. NDA got 17 more seats and Grand Alliance got 15 seats less. Contrary to the exit poll figures, the NDA government came to power. The end result was that the NDA crossed the majority mark in the House by a very small margin. The ruling coalition party NDA got 125 seats (BJP- 74, JDU- 43), while the Grand Alliance got 110 seats (RJD- 75, Congress- 19).

How many exit polls were correct in 2015?

In the year 2015, Nitish Kumar’s JDU was a part of the grand alliance and BJP was leading the NDA. Other local parties were also included in NDA. At that time, six big exit polls had claimed that there would be an equal contest between the Grand Alliance and the NDA, but the government would be formed by the Grand Alliance. Exit polls had estimated that the Grand Alliance could get 123 seats while the BJP-led NDA could get 114 seats.

At the same time, three other exit polls had given the Grand Alliance victory by a huge margin and two exit polls believed that the NDA would form the government. Apart from this, there was an exit poll which indicated the possibility of a hung assembly.

After this, what happened was that the Grand Alliance came to power by winning two-thirds of the seats with a huge margin. That is, the exit poll gave the correct victory figures, but the Grand Alliance brought more seats than expected.

In the Bihar Assembly elections 2015, the Grand Alliance won 178 seats (RJD- 80, JDU- 71, Congress- 27), while the NDA could win only 58 constituencies (BJP- 53).

Where were the exit polls lagging behind in Bihar Assembly elections 2010?

In the 2010 assembly elections, exit polls had claimed the victory of NDA but had underestimated the wave of Nitish Kumar. BJP and JDU were part of NDA, while LJP contested the elections in alliance with RJD. JDU got 115 seats, while BJP got 91 seats. Apart from this, RJD had won 22 seats, Congress 4 and LJP 3 seats.

What happened in Bihar Assembly elections 2005?

Exit polls had predicted a victory for the NDA, and most exit polls had given the NDA 120 to 130 seats, while the RJD+ was projected to get between 90 and 100 seats.

What was the result?
JDU won 88 seats, BJP won 55 seats, while RJD won 54 seats. Whereas, LJP got 10 seats and Congress got 9 seats. Even during this period, the exit polls were lagging far behind in the figures.

Before the assembly elections to be held in Bihar next month, political rhetoric is increasing. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Chief Minister face of the opposition Grand Alliance, Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday hit back at the statement of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan, in which Paswan had alleged that in 2005, his father Ram Vilas Paswan wanted the Chief Minister of Bihar to be a Muslim, but RJD did not support it.

Tejashwi Yadav said, “Whatever Chirag Paswan says or doesn’t say has no importance. The real question is what is his vision?” He also said that Chirag is feeling uncomfortable in the current National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Referring to the dispute between Chirag’s family and NDA, Tejashwi said, “NDA people set Chirag’s family on fire. Chirag is with NDA out of greed for power and is compromising his ideals for this. Therefore, his statements are not considered important.”

Chirag Paswan targeted RJD

Taking aim at RJD, Chirag Paswan said that the party is neither ready to give a Muslim Chief Minister nor Deputy Chief Minister in Bihar. He wrote on Twitter (

In 2005, elections were held twice for 243 seats of Bihar Assembly, because a clear majority was not achieved in the first election held in February. At that time NDA (JDU + BJP) got 92 seats, RJD got 75 seats, LJP got 29 seats and Congress got 10 seats. RJD was not successful in forming the government with Congress and LJP, because LJP had placed the condition of giving support only if the Chief Minister became a Muslim. Since the government could not be formed, re-elections were held at the end of the year, in which the NDA won the majority and formed the government.

Rhetoric is making the election atmosphere more heated

This rhetoric between Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan is further heating up the atmosphere of Bihar elections and it is becoming clear that the issues of religion and caste have become a part of the political debate. Tejashwi Yadav said that his party always has an equal approach with people of all communities and they should not adopt the policy of binding any community for power or respect.
