The picture of Bihar elections has become clear. NDA is on the way to a record victory with 203 seats out of 243, while the Grand Alliance is getting only 35 seats. NDA is gaining more than 70 seats compared to 2020, the Grand Alliance is suffering the same loss. The worst situation is that of Congress, which is getting only 4 seats. Congress has once again lost the assembly elections. But this is not a new thing, in fact if we look at the figures from 2014 to 2025, then Congress must have got used to defeat.

So let us understand in ABP Explainer how many elections Congress lost in the last 11 years, in which states it lost and what is the trend of Congress defeat…

Question 1- How many Lok Sabha elections have been held in the country from 2014 to 2025?
answer- Lok Sabha elections have been held thrice in the last 11 years. Lok Sabha elections are held every 5 years and cover three complete cycles over a period of 11 years.

First election- It took place in 2014 for the 16th Lok Sabha, when voting was completed in 9 phases from 7 April to 12 May. There were 8,251 candidates in the fray for a total of 543 seats. There was 66.4 percent voting, which was the highest figure till that time. In the results, BJP won 282 seats, which was more than the majority of 272 seats, while Congress got only 44 seats. Due to this election, Congress was out of power at the Centre.

Second election- It took place in 2019 for the 17th Lok Sabha, when voting was completed in 7 phases from 11 April to 19 May. Here too 543 seats were at stake. 67.4 percent voting took place and BJP won 303 seats, while Congress got only 52 seats.

Third election- For the 18th Lok Sabha in 2024. Elections were held in 7 phases from 19 April to 1 June. 65.79% voting took place and BJP got 240 seats, while NDA got a total of 293 seats. Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the third time. Congress got 99 seats in this election, which was its best performance after 2014.

These elections made national politics BJP-centric, where the NDA led by Narendra Modi formed strong governments, but the balance was slightly upset by the unity of the opposition in 2024. Now the next elections will be held in 2029.

Question 2- How many assembly elections were held across India from 2014 to 2025 and what were the results?
answer- According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 66 full state assembly elections were held across India from 2014 to 2025. The term ‘Assembly elections’ is primarily used for full state elections…

Of these, Congress won a total of 8 elections and lost 58 elections. Defeat here means not getting majority or not leading the coalition. The average vote share was 19%, but seat conversion was less. The wave of BJP, strength of regional parties and weakness of the organization made Congress a losing party.

Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Bihar assembly elections are near. A common question arising amid political rallies and campaigning is whether a registered voter of Delhi can contest Lok Sabha elections from any other state like Haryana or Maharashtra or not. Let us know what is the answer to this question and what are the rules.

Legal basis for contesting elections from another state

Under Section 4(C), 4(CC) and 4(CCC) of the Representation of the People Act 1951, you get the right to contest elections across India, no matter where you are registered as a voter. These sections determine the qualifications required to become a member of Parliament. According to the law, a citizen who is a registered voter anywhere in India can file nomination for Lok Sabha from any constituency. However, the rules are slightly different for state assembly elections.

Eligibility to contest Lok Sabha elections

To contest Lok Sabha elections, certain conditions have to be fulfilled. The candidate must be an Indian citizen, must be at least 25 years of age at the time of filing nomination papers, and must be a registered voter of any Indian constituency. Let us tell you that it is not necessary for the voter to belong to the same constituency or state from where he is contesting the election.

Any candidate can stand in the elections as a member of any recognized political party or as an independent candidate. However, independent candidates have to submit nomination papers supported by the required number of voters of the concerned constituency as per the guidelines of the Election Commission.

contesting state assembly elections

The rules for contesting state assembly elections are different. For this, the person should be a registered voter of the state from where he wants to contest elections.

Disqualifications for contesting elections

Although the right to contest elections is a constitutional privilege, certain disqualifications may prevent a person from exercising it. Any person declared mentally ill by a competent court or a bankrupt without any guilt cannot contest elections. Similarly, persons who have voluntarily acquired foreign citizenship or have held office of profit under the government are also not eligible to contest elections.

Additionally, candidates convicted of criminal offenses and sentenced to imprisonment for 2 years or more are disqualified for 6 years after their release.

Also read: What is the maximum number of votes that can be cast in EVM, know what is the limit

Vinod Khanna was one of the selected stars of Hindi cinema, whose journey was very special and inspiring until he became a hero from a negative role. He not only ruled the hearts of the audience with his brilliant acting, but also made a distinct identity. Vinod Khanna started his as a villain in films, but his look and strong acting soon got him the role of a hero.

Villain to Hero’s Bollywood journey
Vinod Khanna was born on 6 October 1946 in a Punjabi family in Peshawar (now Pakistan). At the time of partition, the family later settled in India and settled in Mumbai. He was interested in acting since childhood. After completing his studies, he decided to make acting his career. Although his father was initially against him, he also agreed to see the daughter’s hard work and dedication and gave Vinod a chance to fulfill his dream.

Luck changed with ‘Man Ka Meet’
In the year 1968, Vinod Khanna got the first major success when he got the role of villain in the film ‘Man Ka Meet’. At that time it was not easy to play a villain or negative role in Hindi films, but Vinod made it his strength. On the basis of his dashing look and expression, he also proved himself in a negative role.

After this, he played the role of Villain in many films and made his own place in the hearts of the audience. But it was also written to become a hero in his destiny. Gradually Vinod Khanna started getting the role of hero in films.

In the 1971 film ‘Mere Apne’, he was seen in the lead role for the first time, which increased his popularity. The film was so liked among the audience that Vinod Khanna confirmed his name as a hero.

This was followed by many of his hit films, such as ‘Mera Village Mera Desh’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Qurbani’, and ‘Dayawan’. These films proved that he is not only a villain, but also a great hero.

Vinod Khanna reached Osho’s Sharan of Stardom
Vinod Khanna’s special thing was that he never let himself get caught in stardom. He always won everyone’s hearts with his hard work and simplicity. He worked with veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Sunil Dutt, but made his own identity. In films like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Mukaddar Ka Sikandar’, his pairing was a favorite of the audience with Amitabh Bachchan.

His career was so great that in the 1980s he was among the highest fees of the industry. But during this period he took a big decision. In 1982, he went to the shelter of his spiritual guru Osho and distanced himself from films. Nearly five years later, in 1987, he made a comeback with the film ‘Insaaf’, and again ruled the hearts of the audience.

Vinod Khanna’s star shines from acting to politics
Vinod Khanna received many awards for his acting. His acting was praised everywhere and the film world also honored him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Apart from this, he was also active in politics and had won the Lok Sabha elections many times as BJP leader.

Vinod Khanna died on 27 April 2017. After a long battle with cancer, he said goodbye to the world, but even today his memories and the magic of his films remain in the hearts of the audience.

Leader of Indian National Congress and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, once again held a press conference in the auditorium of the party headquarters- Indira Bhavan in the national capital, New Delhi. Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission and the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, 18 September. Rahul Gandhi has also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He says that the Election Commission is saving people who end India’s democracy.

After this allegation of Rahul Gandhi, there has been a stir in the political corridors, after which allegations and counter-allegations are being made by the side and the opposition. Now Samajwadi Party spokesperson Manoj Kaka has given his response.

What did Manoj Kaka say on Rahul’s PC?

On Rahul Gandhi’s press conference, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Manoj Kaka said a big thing while talking in ABP News show ‘Mahadangal’. In the conversation, he has called the Election Commission ‘leech’. Manoj Kaka has said that, ‘Election Commission is a leech of Election Commission. The leech, which works to harm.’

Is there a voter list or a joke? More than four thousand voters in this four -room house in UP!

SP leader attacked Election Commission

Manoj Kaka said that the Election Commission has made good use of English in its reply. There is a song- ‘Whatever you like, you will say the same thing, you say the day, we will say night.’ We cannot call the Election Commission a earthworm commission because the land where the earthworm happens is fertile. That Local Commission has become. The leech where it sucks the entire crop, ruins.

He said that the Election Commission of India has now become the Jonak Commission. The Election Commission is sucking the beliefs of our democracy. Asked that in the Lok Sabha elections, the SP won the most seats in its history, Manoj Kaka said that there are issues and issues, questions and questions. He does not change with any defeat and victory. Our leader (Akhilesh Yadav) said in the Lok Sabha that if we win 80 seats of 80, then we do not trust the fairness of EVM and Commission.

Manoj Kaka said about the officials of Election Commission

The SP leader said that the form of the vote edition is 6. There is 7 of deletion. The form of transfer and amendment is 8. In deletion, the BLO asks that your vote is being deleted. In the assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India is not the role of the state.

The SP leader made serious allegations that all the commissioners of the Election Commission are sitting on the basis of talent, not talent, because they know that our son and daughter will continue to be IAS IPS.

Kaka said that our party has always said that if there was a good election in 2022, then our government would have been. The day when elections are held in fairness and transparent way, then in the coming times, we will have our government in the country.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, speaking a big attack on the country’s election system in New Delhi, in New Delhi, in 2025, the Congress Party’s annual legal conclave. He said, ‘India’s election system is already dead.’ Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was a huge rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, giving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a very minor majority.

Congress will present evidence of rigging
Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party will present the evidence in the coming days, which will prove how and how the Lok Sabha elections were affected. He said, ‘We will show you in the coming days how to rigged in the Lok Sabha elections and also gone.’ He also said that BJP has come to power with a very low majority.

If there is no rigging, then you do not become PM: Rahul
Rahul Gandhi further said, ‘The truth is that if there was no rigging of 15 seats, then today Narendra Modi would not have been the Prime Minister of India.’ Describing the election process as ineffective, he said that ‘the election system in India is now over.’

Arun Jaitley threatened during agricultural laws
Rahul Gandhi made serious allegations against former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during this period. He said that when he was fighting the fight against three agricultural laws, Arun Jaitley was sent to threaten him. He said, ‘I remember when I was opposing agricultural laws, Arun Jaitley ji came to threaten me. He told me that if you continue the government’s opposition and fight against agricultural laws, then we will have to take action against you. To this, Rahul Gandhi said in response, ‘Perhaps you don’t know whom you are talking to.’

Rahul claims evidence of Rahul
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party has achieved evidence like an “atom bomb”, which proves that the voter list has been messed up on a large scale. He said, ‘We investigated deeply because the Election Commission was not helping us. What we got is an atom bomb. When this burst, then you will not see the Election Commission in India.

Doubt also expressed suspicion on Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra elections
Rahul Gandhi said that he feared disturbances in Madhya Pradesh and Lok Sabha elections, but this doubt deepened in Maharashtra assembly elections. He said, ‘At the state level we felt that votes were being stolen.’

Rahul gandhi on ec: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, once again raised serious questions on the Election Commission on Saturday, raising his transparency, alleging that the Election Commission was deliberately trying to destroy the important data related to the election.

Rahul Gandhi on Saturday made a scathing attack on the Election Commission and said that he is deliberately destroying the necessary documents and data related to the election. Rahul wrote on social media that the voter list will not be given in the machine-readable format, the CCTV footage has been changed to the law, and now the photo-video of the election will be destroyed in just 45 days, not one year. He said that the one who needs answers is erasing the same evidence, that is, “match is fixed” and fixed elections are poison for democracy.

Election Commission cleaning – secrecy and security is necessary
The Election Commission has responded to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. Election Commission officials said that making public webcasting footage of polling stations public can pose a threat to voters’ privacy and security. According to the Commission, such demands appear in support of public interest and democratic honesty, but in reality their purpose is the opposite.

Refer to law and Supreme Court orders
Election Commission officials said that the demands of Rahul Gandhi are against the Representation of the People Act of 1950 and 1951 and the directions of the Supreme Court. The Commission also said that it is working according to the law and constitution, and it is its priority to maintain the safety of voters and fairness of elections.

Danger of the identity of voters being revealed
Election Commission officials have warned that by making public the CCTV footage of polling stations, it can be ascertained who voted and who is not, which can lead to a situation like pressure, discrimination or intimidation. Giving examples, he said that if a political party gets less votes at a booth, then he can find out who did not vote. With this, selected people can be disturbed or intimidated.

CCTV footage deadline and use
Officials made it clear that the Election Commission keeps these CCTV footage safe only for 45 days for internal administrative works. This rule is because the legal deadline for filing a petition against the election result is also 45 days.

Court is kept safe for court
If a petition is filed within this deadline, then the footage is kept safe and it is made available to the court when needed. But if a petition is not filed, then keeping the footage may be a risk of spreading wrong information or misuse.

Methods of changes and recording in rules
Last year, the government had made changes in the election rules on the recommendation of the Election Commission, under which a provision has been made not to make some electronic records such as CCTV and webcast footage publicly. On May 30, the Election Commission had written a letter to the state officials, stating that many methods like photography, videography, CCTV and webcasting are adopted for recording of election process.

One nation one election news: The tenure of the Joint Committee of Parliament constituted to consider the Bills proposed to conduct the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in India simultaneously has now been extended. This decision was taken on Tuesday (March 25) when the committee was entrusted with the task that it would present its report by the last week of this year.

The 39-member Joint Committee formed to consider the two Bills submitted with the objective of holding the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously- ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and ‘Union Territory of Law (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ now proposed to extend the tenure. The chairman of the committee and BJP MP PP Chaudhary kept this proposal in the Lok Sabha, which was approved by the House. This committee has been given time to make intensive views and final recommendations on these bills.

Deadline set for committee report

These bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 17 last year and now the committee has been directed to submit the report by the first week of the upcoming monsoon session. These bills are in the direction of implementing a step under which elections of Lok Sabha and Assembly can be conducted simultaneously. Due to this, there is a possibility of saving time in the election process and better use of resources.

Committee supported under the chairmanship of former President

The proposal is based on the basis of the high-level committee constituted under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind, which supported the concept of ‘one nation-one election’. Accepting the recommendations of this committee, the Union Cabinet introduced two bills, one of which is the Constitution Amendment Bill and the other is the Union Territory of Law (Amendment) Bill.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla constituted a 39 -member joint parliamentary committee under the chairmanship of PP Chaudhary in this regard which is considering these bills. Now the committee will have to submit its report in the Lok Sabha within the stipulated time. If these bills are passed then they will indicate a major change in the election process.
