What Causes Sudden Lower Back Pain: Suddenly experiencing severe pain in the lower back may seem common. Often people ignore it as sitting for a long time, sleeping wrongly or as a mild sprain. But it is not necessary that every time the pain is related to muscles. Sometimes this is a signal from the body that something more serious is happening inside, especially kidney related problems. Let us tell you what the experts say.

What do experts say?

Kidney stone is one such condition, which can appear without any warning and the pain is so severe that it becomes difficult to understand. Dr Ankur Bhatnagar told TOI that sudden onset back pain is sometimes a sign of kidney or urinary tract stones. This pain does not stay at one place, but can spread from the waist forward till near the stomach or thigh, which is its biggest identity.

Dr. Ritesh Monga also explains that this pain often starts from the side of the waist and gradually moves downwards. This is the reason why it is mistaken for normal back pain, whereas muscle pain usually remains at one place.

What is the problem?

In fact, when the stone comes out of the kidney and gets stuck in the urine path, the flow of urine stops. Due to this, pressure increases in the kidneys and severe pain is felt. This pain comes and goes like waves, sometimes very intense and sometimes a little less. According to Dr. Monga, whether the size of the stone is small or big, the intensity of pain is not always determined by it.

These are the signs

Along with this, some other signs may also appear, such as vomiting, burning sensation during urination, frequent urge to urinate and sometimes blood in the urine. Many people ignore these symptoms and continue taking medicines to reduce pain. Dr. Bhatnagar warns that taking excessive painkillers without doctor’s advice can cause permanent damage to the kidneys.

Nowadays this problem is becoming more common than before, especially among people living in cities. Drinking less water, eating too much salt or sweets, obesity and diseases like diabetes increase its risk. Dehydration is also a big reason in a hot country like India, where the body gets less water than required.

Treatment easier than before

The good thing is that now its treatment has become much easier than before. Dr. Bhatnagar explains that now treatment of stones is possible with modern techniques without any incision. At the same time, Dr. Monga says that in many cases, stones can be removed without any cut by laser technology. Still, the most important thing is to pay attention to time. If the pain is sudden, severe and changes location, do not ignore it. With timely diagnosis and treatment, major problems can be prevented.
