Speaking to Telegraph India, Sumit Ritolia, senior energy analyst at Kpler, said, ‘LPG has been worst affected and (India’s) imports have fallen by about 51% compared to pre-war levels. Due to which there is pressure to replenish its stock.

He also said, ‘There is little hope of trade flow normalizing immediately, rather it will normalize in some stages. This is because different types of fuel were affected differently.

At the same time, the prices of domestic LPG and commercial LPG also increased rapidly. Which had a direct impact on the country’s economy. However, now that the Strait of Hormuz has opened, it is expected that soon the prices of petrol, diesel and gas may come down once again. This will also reduce the impact of inflation on the common man’s pocket.

CNG Price Hike: The increase in the prices of CNG in the right states of the country including Delhi NCR has further increased the problems of the common people and commercial drivers. Amidst ever increasing inflation, people driving taxis, autos and cabs are now feeling under financial pressure. Drivers say that earnings are decreasing, expenses are increasing and companies are leaving no stone unturned in cutting their commission.

Even for short distance rides, companies’ commission is 25 to 30 percent.

Car driver Gulshan Kumar Saini says that driving in the current circumstances has become a loss-making deal. They allege that even for short distance rides, companies deduct 25 to 30 percent commission. He said that the government advises people to use commercial vehicles and metro instead of private vehicles, but people are still going out with cars alone. In such a situation, the pressure of both traffic and fuel is increasing.

Jasveer Singh (employed) said that the prices of all types of fuels are being increased gradually so that public anger does not flare up suddenly. He demanded from the government that it is necessary to control the rising prices of everyday items, otherwise the problems of the common man will increase further.

From petrol-diesel to cylinders, people raised questions on the government

Another citizen named Amit, a private car driver, expressed his strong displeasure at the government regarding the current situation. He said that the leaders who used to protest against expensive petrol, diesel and gas cylinders while being in the opposition, are now silent on the same issues. He says that the price of CNG has increased from Rs 35 to Rs 83, but no relief is being given in taxi fares. He alleged that the maximum pressure is falling on the middle class and drivers.

If the rate increases then it should also decrease, people asked for relief

Rupesh Kumar said that when prices increase in the international market, the immediate effect is visible in India, but when prices come down, there is no relief. He says that the middle class is facing pressure from all sides. From taxes to daily expenses, the biggest burden is falling on the employed people. EMI, loan and declining earnings increase drivers’ worries

Gajendra Bajaj said that home loan, car installment and continuously increasing inflation have weakened the financial condition of the drivers. He says that many drivers are living under mental stress because their income is not what it used to be. He alleged that app-based companies are providing rides at very low fares, which is affecting the earnings of local drivers. He claimed that many people have become mentally broken due to debt and bank pressure.

CNG prices increased again for the fourth time in 11 days in Delhi

CNG in the capital Delhi has now become Rs 83.09 per kg. Earlier the price was Rs 81.09 per kg. This is the fourth time in the last 11 days that CNG has become expensive. CNG crosses Rs 90 in many cities of the country

Apart from Delhi, in cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata, the price of CNG has reached around or above Rs 90 per kg. CNG is the most expensive in Hyderabad and is being sold at Rs 97 per kg. Whereas in cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, prices are relatively low, but there too the trend of increase is continuing.

While taxi and auto drivers are demanding increase in fares, the employed and middle class are hoping for relief from inflation. Different tax burden on LPG

PNG is also not untouched by tax

Although PNG does not currently come under the purview of GST, VAT ranging from 3 percent to 14.5 percent is levied on it in different states. 5 percent VAT is applicable on PNG in Delhi, which increases its cost.

Brijesh Goyal says that the Central Government should reduce GST on LPG to zero and VAT on PNG should also be completely abolished. He believes that this will provide great relief to both consumers and traders across the country.

Domestic impact of global crisis

According to CTI Senior Vice President Deepak Garg and Vice President Rahul Gandhi, the increasing conflict in West Asia has created a global oil and gas crisis. Its effect is clearly visible in India, where there is a shortage of LPG and a rise in the demand for PNG.

Sharp jump in PNG connections in Delhi

General Secretaries Gurmeet Arora and Ramesh Ahuja said that the number of people taking PNG connections in Delhi has increased rapidly. While in February 2026, an average of 686 connections were being given daily, in March this figure has reached around 2000.

Despite this, there are about 56 lakh domestic LPG connections in Delhi. In such a situation, both the availability and price of gas remain a matter of great concern for the common people.

Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal, Chief Minister of the state and Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from Bhawanipur assembly seat, Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday (March 26, 2026) made a sharp attack on the central government over the rising prices of domestic gas cylinders (LPG) and its availability.

Referring to the problems of the general public and especially women, he said that the situation is becoming increasingly worrying. We don’t even know whether gas will be available in the next two days or not. If the situation continues like this then people will again have to travel on bullock carts like in the old times.

Questions raised on increase in gas prices

During this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also raised questions on the huge increase in gas prices. He said that remember, what was the price of LPG before Prime Minister Narendra came to power? Only Rs 400, which has now increased to around Rs 1,100. An increase of Rs 700 has been made silently in this. Taunt on government for delay in supply of gas cylinder

Apart from this, he also expressed his displeasure over the delay in supply of gas cylinders. Mamta Banerjee said that the day I came to know that now people will have to wait for 25 days to get gas cylinders, I called a meeting on the same day. Raising the question, he said, ‘If women get gas cylinders after waiting for 25 days, how will they cook food?’
