With the beginning of the year 2026, common people have been dealt a severe blow by inflation. On the very first day of the new year, oil marketing companies have increased the prices of LPG gas cylinders significantly. From January 1, 2026, the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 111 across the country.

The new prices have been implemented in all big cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. However, it is a matter of relief that at present there has been no change in the prices of 14 kg domestic LPG cylinder.

New prices of LPG cylinder came into effect from January 1
Oil marketing companies have implemented new rates for commercial LPG cylinders from January 1, 2026. This increase in prices is believed to directly impact hotels, restaurants and small businessmen.

How much did the prices increase in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai?
According to the new rates, a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder will now be available for Rs 1691.50 instead of Rs 1580.50 in the capital Delhi. Its price in Kolkata has increased from Rs 1684 to Rs 1795. In Mumbai, the cylinder which was earlier available for Rs 1531.50, now costs Rs 1642.50. Whereas in Chennai its price has been increased from Rs 1739.50 to Rs 1849.50.

Commercial cylinder became cheaper in December
It is noteworthy that earlier on December 1, 2025, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced. During that time, relief of up to Rs 10 was given in Delhi and Kolkata, while relief of up to Rs 11 was given in Mumbai and Chennai.

Prices had also decreased in November
Not only this, the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders were also reduced on the first of November 2025. At that time the price in Delhi was reduced from Rs 1595.50 to Rs 1590, in Kolkata it was reduced from Rs 1700.50 to Rs 1694, in Mumbai it was reduced from Rs 1547 to Rs 1542 and in Chennai it was reduced from Rs 1754.50 to Rs 1750.

No change in domestic LPG cylinder prices
While on one hand the prices of commercial LPG cylinders are constantly changing, on the other hand the prices of domestic gas cylinders have remained stable for a long time. The prices of 14 kg domestic LPG cylinder remain at the level of April 2025.

Current price of domestic cylinder in your city
At present, domestic LPG cylinder is available for Rs 853 in Delhi, Rs 879 in Kolkata, Rs 852 in Mumbai and Rs 868 in Chennai. There is a possibility of increase in the prices of food, drinks and other services due to the increase in cost of commercial cylinders at the beginning of the new year.

On the beginning of the new year, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has given relief to its consumers. The company has announced a reduction in the prices of domestic piped natural gas (PNG) by up to 70 paise per standard cubic meter. After this cut, the new price of PNG in the national capital Delhi has come down to Rs 47.89 per SCM.

This decision will especially benefit urban households, where a large number of people use PNG for cooking. This reduction in gas prices amid rising inflation can prove helpful in reducing the burden on the domestic budget and is being considered as a positive beginning of the new year for consumers.

With the new year, buying a car has also become expensive. From January 1, 2026, many auto companies have increased the prices of their vehicles. BMW, Renault and Nissan have announced to increase the prices of their vehicles by Rs 3,000 to three percent. At the same time, Honda and Tata Motors have also indicated about increasing the prices, due to which the 2026 model cars may be more expensive than last year.

Changes related to FD, UPI and SIM

Changes in the rules related to banking and digital payments have also come into effect. From January 1, 2026, the rules for UPI and other digital transactions have been made more stringent than before, so that online fraud can be curbed. Along with this, the process of verification of SIM card has also been tightened. It is a matter of relief that many banks including HDFC Bank, SBI and PNB have announced reduction in loan interest rates, which has become effective from the new year.

PM Kisan Yojana

Apart from this, some important changes have also been made in PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. In states like Uttar Pradesh, now Unique Farmer ID has been made mandatory to avail the benefits of the scheme. Also, if crops are damaged by wild animals and a report is filed within 72 hours, now that loss can also be compensated under the scheme.

Eighth Pay Commission

The new year has proved to be important for central employees and pensioners regarding the Eighth Pay Commission. The tenure of the Seventh Pay Commission ended on 31 December 2025, after which the Eighth Pay Commission has been formally implemented from 1 January 2026. This was being awaited for a long time, because there was hope of increase in salary and pension associated with it.

However, according to experts, at present its impact will be limited only to the paper process. This means that the record of the increased salary and allowances of the employees will be prepared, but it may take some time to get the actual increased salary and arrears. Only after the government issues the final notification regarding the new pay structure, fitment factor and allowances, its benefits will be available directly to the employees and pensioners. In such a situation, everyone will have to be prepared to wait a little longer.

Free credit card insurance going to shut down SBI

If you use State Bank of India (SBI) card and are taking advantage of free accident insurance during air travel, then there is big news for you. Since August 11, 2025, the bank is going to discontinue free air accident insurance coverage on many of its co-branded credit card variants.

Free air accident insurance cover ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore was given by SBI Bank on Elite and Prime Card in partnership with many banks like UCO Bank, Central Bank, Karur Vaishya Bank and Allahabad Bank, which is now going to be closed.

Its direct benefit can now be available to the people and some prices may decrease in the menu.

2-Mahana ATM withdrawal

The second change has been made regarding ATM withdrawal. From May 1, now except for the fixed time limit, you will now have to pay more charge than before (whether it is financial or non -financial) than before. Guidelines in this regard have been released by RBI. Many banks have already given information about the revised rates to their customs.

Now instead of home bank, after a limit from another bank’s ATM, Rs 19 will have to be paid, earlier 17 rupees were charged by the bank. On checking your balance from the ATM of a second bank, now where it used to cost 6 rupees earlier, now it has been increased to 7 rupees.

HDFC has stated that from May 1, 2025, the ATM charge of the tax has been increased to Rs 23 from Rs. 23 for more than the free transaction limit. Whereas PNB and Insand Bank ATM will be charged Rs 23 on withdrawing money.

3-Amool increased the milk of milk

If your mobile number is connected to an UPI app and you have not used it for a long time, then your UPI services can be stopped.

Unified pension scheme started

Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is going to start from April 1, which will give guaranteed pension to central employees. Central government employees can apply online for this scheme from 1 April. If an employee wants to take pension under UPS, then he will have to apply by filling the form and if someone does not want to choose UPS, then he can take the option of NPS (National Pension Scheme).

23 lakh central employees will have to choose an option from UPS or NPS. The government will contribute 8.5 percent of the basic salary and dearness allowance of employees choosing UPS. Under this scheme, the minimum pension will be Rs 10,000 per month, but for this at least 10 years job will have to be completed.

New tax scheme implemented

New tax rules will be applicable from 1 April 2025. The government had made several major changes to give relief to the middle class in the budget 2025. A new income tax bill will be brought instead of the Old Income Tax Act 1961, no tax will be paid on the annual income of up to Rs 12 lakh, employees getting salary can take advantage of standard deduction of Rs 75,000 and i.e. salary up to Rs 12.75 lakh can be tax-free. But this discount will be available only to those who will choose a new tax system.

Changes in TDS Rules

From April 1, 2025, the TDS rules will be changed such as the limit has been increased to reduce unnecessary tax deduction and improve cash flow of taxpayers, the limit of TDS on interest income for senior citizens has increased to Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1 lakh, which will give them more financial security and the limit of rebate has been reduced annually, which will reduce landlord’s market and strengthen the market.

Change in credit card rules

Rewards and other facilities will change. The swiggy reward on SBI Simply Click card will be reduced from 5 times to half, the points of Air India signature card will be reduced from 30 to 10, IDFC First Bank will close the benefits of its club Vistara Milestone.

Minimum balance rules change

From 1 April 2025, SBI, PNB and other banks are going to change the rules related to the minimum balance of savings account. Under the new rules, a new minimum balance limit will be set for different areas. If there is no minimum amount fixed in an account, then the bank can impose fine. Therefore, account holders will have to understand the new rules of their bank and maintain the necessary balance.

Debit card new rules

From 1 April 2025, new benefits will be added to Rupay Debit Select Card. This includes facilities related to fitness, travel, entertainment and health. Under the new update, you will be able to use domestic airport lounge once in every quarter, you will get the facility of International Airport Lounge Visit twice a year, an insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh will be available for death or permanent disability in an accident and free gym member will be available once every quarter. These changes are being made to provide more facilities to the card holders.

Increase in toll tax

From 1 April 2025, toll tax on the National Highway is going to be expensive. NHAI has ordered to implement new rates on different toll plazas, which can make highway travel expensive. According to reports, toll for light vehicles on the highway passing through Lucknow can increase by Rs 5 and for heavy vehicles to Rs 20-25. New rates will be implemented on busy highways like Lucknow-Kanpur, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli and Barabanki. Apart from this, passengers may have to pay more tolls on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH-9.
