Lucknow Super Giants has become the first team to be eliminated from IPL 2026. All the doors to the playoffs were closed for LSG after their 5-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Lucknow still has three matches left in the league stage, but even after winning them, LSG cannot go to the playoffs. After this defeat, captain Rishabh Pant looked very disappointed and he blamed the defeat on poor fielding and batsmen.

Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants team scored 203 runs, Josh Inglis played a brilliant inning of 85 runs. Who knew that Urvil Patel would play a more stormy innings than English. He had created history by scoring fifty in 13 balls.

After the match, Rishabh Pant said that the level of fielding should be better in T20. Pant admitted that his team dropped many catches of CSK batsmen. When Patel was on 62 runs, Digvesh Rathi dropped his catch, the good thing for Lucknow was that Patel was out shortly after that. Apart from this, Rathi had also dropped the catch of Prashant Veer.

Rishabh Pant said, “Obviously, we can do better in some areas, the Chennai team performed commendably. Chennai handled the pressure better than us. The kind of start we got, we should have scored more runs. We knew that a target of 200 or 210 would be good, but they got a very explosive start in the powerplay.

Lucknow Super Giants still have 3 matches left in the league stage, but LSG’s playoff future has been decided just 2 weeks before the conclusion of the league stage. Lucknow still has to play one match each with Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.
